SAINT-ANDRÉ-DE-RESTIGOUCHE - BELVÉDÈRE COEUR DES PLATEAUX

GPS Coordinates: 48.041709, -66.935663 Parking GPS Coordinates: 48.039507, -66.938953 Belvédère

The Cœur des Plateaux belvédère, located in Saint-André-de-Restigouche, stands in the middle of a field on one of the highest points in the area.

A trail, 480 meters long, leads to an observation tower with unique architecture.

An interior staircase, with about sixty steps, takes you to a platform at the top of the tower.

From there, you get a 360° view of the typically agricultural region. On a clear day, you can even see up to 100 kilometers away.

SAINT-ANDRÉ-DE-RESTIGOUCHE - CHUTES À PICOT

GPS coordinates: 48.026838, -66.955803 Parking GPS coordinates: 48.021612, -66.963111 Waterfall

The Chutes à Picot are located in Saint-André-de-Restigouche. To get there, you’ll need to drive on a dirt road (Rang Petit) for about 2.8 miles.

Along the way, there are signs by the road indicating the route to follow.

These waterfalls are accessible via a 0.6-mile one-way forest trail, which is actually part of the International Appalachian Trail (SIA-QC).

Be cautious, as the trail is scattered with roots. It also includes a few staircases and wooden boardwalks.

The trail leads to Gilmour Creek, where you can first admire some lovely small cascades.

Next, you’ll cross a boardwalk that overlooks a beautiful waterfall cascading onto a rock.

After that, the trail takes you to a long staircase you’ll need to descend to reach the base of another waterfall.

This one flows down a rocky promontory in thin streams and empties into a shallow basin. The water is crystal clear.

The scenery is stunning. The surrounding vegetation is lush and green, and the pale brown rock over which the water spreads its long white veil adds a certain charm to this enchanting site.

We also spotted several species of mushrooms along the way.

SAINT-ALEXIS-DE-MATAPÉDIA - ROBITALLE STREAM WATERFALL TRAIL

GPS coordinates: 48.011688, -67.089828 Parking on Rang St-Dominique GPS coordinates: 48.0191, -67.0985 Waterfall

The Robitaille Stream Waterfall Trail, which is 1.2 kilometers long (one way), is located in Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia.

This intermediate-level trail leads into the forest. It starts off fairly easy, despite the roots scattered across the ground, but then descends toward the stream, where the terrain becomes much more rugged.

We cross the stream twice using footbridges that overlook it, allowing us to discover some lovely little cascades.

The trail eventually takes us to the main waterfall, which cascades down several tiers over a rocky outcrop before ending in a shallow basin.

SAINT-ALEXANDRE DES LACS - LA CHUTE À PHILOMÈNE

GPS coordinates: 48.464635, -67.342712

La Chute à Philomène is located in Saint-Alexandre-des-Lacs. Back in the day, streams in the Matapédia Valley were often named after the families who lived nearby.

This waterfall is no exception. It’s named after Philomène Dubé, who was the first resident, along with her husband, of the area near the falls.

At 33 meters high, you can first admire it from a boat-prow-shaped lookout that overlooks the falls. This lookout is also accessible for people with reduced mobility.

The end of the platform has a small glass section that lets you see the forest beneath your feet.

Another trail, with a long series of stairs, leads you to the base of this stunning waterfall, which plunges into the void before flowing over different rocky levels, creating beautiful cascades along the way.

SAINT-ULRIC - LA CHUTE À TI-MÉ

GPS coordinates: 48.770004, -67.668683 Parking GPS coordinates: 48.767505, -67.666103 Waterfall

The Chute à Ti-Mé, on the Blanche River, is located in Saint-Ulric. The parking lot is on the right on Route Centrale, 2.6 kilometers from Route 132.

The name of this waterfall comes from the nickname of the previous owner of this property, Aimé Beaulieu.

The trail to reach the Chute à Ti-Mé is very short. About 300 meters to walk.

The trail is flat, except at the end where you have to descend through some rocks to access the waterfall.

The waterfall, with its cottony white appearance, cascades down a 20-meter rocky escarpment, plunges into a pool that’s surely perfect for a refreshing swim on hot summer days, and then continues its course toward the river.
