Which agency for a safari in Tanzania?

Hi there, I’m looking for a French-speaking agency that organizes safaris in Tanzania.

Any recommendations?

I’ve been in touch with Asanterra, but I haven’t found any reviews about this company.

Cheers,

"Asanterra" is a Belgian agency that seems more focused on the southern parks. If you're doing the northern parks, it might not be the best fit (?)

If you think reviews are a criterion to follow, the choice is pretty clear. - Asanterra: 5 Google reviews and not on TripAdvisor (only 1 in the last 12 months) - The agency I told you about: 45 Google reviews and 458 reviews on TripAdvisor.

I got 3 quotes: SBCS + Corto Safaris and MF Safaris Same specifications (including the French-speaking aspect) 3 different prices, but (maybe) slightly better lodges with one than the other What made up my mind was my brother’s experience with one of these agencies.

The problem with ratings is that they’re often "very good" for both agencies and lodges. Personally, I focus more on the nature of recent comments (<6 months) rather than the raw ratings.

Hello, I’m looking for a French-speaking agency that organizes safaris in Tanzania. Any recommendations? I’ve been in touch with Asanterra but couldn’t find any reviews about this company.

Hello,

My wife and I are regular clients of Asanterra, since we’ve done 5 trips/safaris in the southern Tanzania reserves organized by this agency. You can find our travel journals from our last two trips (with Asanterra) in the Ruaha, Selous, and Mikumi reserves on this forum. We’ve been completely satisfied, trip after trip.

Asanterra only offers safaris in the southern and western reserves of Tanzania.

Our first trips to Tanzania (2009 and 2010) were in the north, through the Paris-based agency Vie Sauvage, whose local partner was "Léopard Tours" (at the time, the biggest safari company in Tanzania). Then we heard good things about the southern reserves and wanted to try them out. So we’ve been back five times to the reserves mentioned above. We’re wildlife lovers (landscapes, mammals, birds, etc.), and in that regard, the south is incomparable to the north. Plus, we prefer small lodges or tented camps over the big lodges in the northern reserves. The south is a bit more expensive than the north, but in our opinion, the pleasure/quality/cost ratio is much better. There are far fewer visitors in the southern reserves. You’ll find more of what I call the "Out of Africa" vibe there...

This is just our opinion!! (It was other people delighted with Asanterra who gave me their contact info)

Best regards,

Puma2A

A clarification to avoid misunderstandings:

Anne, the owner of the Asanterra agency, is Belgian, and she personally responds in French to everyone who speaks the language. In principle, she’s the one who comes to welcome you at Mombasa Airport. However, you’ll need to use English to take flights at the airport for domestic connections, then with your driver/guide and in the lodge(s)/camp(s) you choose.

I’ve never seen (in the lodges and reserves in the south) a guide who speaks French, or just "hello, welcome." That said, people make an effort to understand my (very) bad English...!

If you're looking for a trip with a French-speaking guide, you’ll need to find another solution.

And instead of Zanzibar, there’s Mafia Island.....!!

We know Soaring Flamingo. It's a local agency run by Maasai people with the help of French speakers.

Okay, deal Thanks a bunch for your help—I might go with Corto. What do you think?

Hi, Back in 2009, I did Kilimanjaro with Corto Safaris and had nothing but praise—everything was perfect. Fred
