Driver and Accommodation for India

Moustache35 · 2019-06-01

hi there I’m planning a trip to Rajasthan in January, and after some research on VF, I’ve decided to go with a car rental with a driver. I’ve looked at several agencies and gotten some quotes. Is it better to book the accommodations through them as well? Thanks for your advice! kenavo

Hi there, My sister and I did a full tour of Rajasthan in 28 days with a car and driver, and it was the agency itself that booked most of the hotels—except for a few times when we decided to go elsewhere. It’s always better to go with agencies for such long circuits because they know the area well. If the price including hotels is reasonable, go for it—it’ll save you a lot of hassle! If it’s way more expensive, check out the hotels that suit you in the *Guide du Routard* and give the addresses to the driver when you set off for that destination. Have a great trip!

Hi Moustache35,

In January 2012, we used the services of BARBARA and CHANI, a small Franco-Indian agency, for our 28 days in Rajasthan. We were starting a round-the-world trip with our two kids. Car rental with a driver, train bookings, and small hotels were all arranged through them. We had lots of email exchanges before departure to plan the route and choose the hotels they suggested. Then, we stayed in regular contact during our journey through this region of India. NEW DELHI - MANDAWA - BIKANER - JAISALMER - JODHPUR - BHENSWARA - RANAKPUR - UDAIPUR - BUNDI - PUSHKAR - ROOPANGARH - JAIPUR - BHARATPUR - AGRA, and VARANASI were among the cities we visited. It was nothing but pure joy—with an amazing driver, unforgettable images, and flawless organization that let us discover cities, remote countryside spots, stunning monuments, and more. We only booked our first night in New Delhi and our nights in Varanasi ourselves.

Happy to help if needed!

Best regards, JAJA29

Hi Moustache35,

It’ll depend on the season. In high season, hotels give better rooms to agencies they work with year-round. Plus, if there’s an issue with a hotel/room (and God knows that happens in India 😄), the agency will handle the problem directly if you booked the accommodations through them. We traveled in Rajasthan with Drivers-India and chose the package that included accommodations. That way, they resolved the few issues we had very efficiently during the trip.

Happy planning

Hi there, I also traveled in 2012 with Barbara and Chani’s services. I’m heading back this year—do you know if they’re still around? Could you share their contact details? Thanks in advance!

Hi there

I see you didn’t get a reply... Looks like Barbara and Chani have dropped off the radar. I can give you the details of a driver we used in January 2024 for a Rajasthan tour. Private Driver India hello@privatedriverindia.com

We were really happy with the service—our driver Ajay was careful, punctual, and super friendly. We paid 550 € for 14 days (+ a tip of around sixty euros).

Hi KATE, in your excellent feedback from October 25th (https://voyageforum.com/forum/4-amis-decouvrent-morceau-inde-nord-d10554821/), you mentioned renting a vehicle + driver via (https://chauffeurpriveeninde.com/). What’s the connection with (https://www.privatedriverindia.com/)? Best regards, JLMA

Hi there,

It’s pretty much the same situation. The driver, Sevinder Kumar, runs a private taxi company and has set up a small side business. I got in touch with him via this email: hello@privatedriverindia.com

Thanks for your reply with the clarification. I had mixed up https://www.chauffeureninde.com/contact.php (Randhir KUMAR + Dominique) with https://chauffeurpriveeninde.com/fr/contact/ (Sevinder KUMAR). Have a great rest of the day, JLMA
