Hello,
I’ve been to Thailand three times a long time ago, and I’d love to visit neighboring countries too: Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia (while returning to Thailand 😛).
The catch is that I’d like to go at the beginning of the year, but I’ve heard that’s peak tourist season for these countries. Ideally, I’d prefer to avoid peak season to save money (I’m not exactly rolling in it) and to be able to travel without reservations—without being forced to take a room in the local "palace" that still has availability because of its exorbitant prices.
From my distant memories of Thailand, I usually paid around the equivalent of 20 € per night (with a hearty breakfast) for a hotel room with a mini-bar.
What are the average prices for this type of accommodation in Thailand and its neighbors during "peak" season these days? Do prices fluctuate a lot depending on the season, or is tourist demand not that different from one season to another, keeping prices relatively stable?
Are the chances of finding a "budget" room without a reservation still high, no matter the season, in this part of the world?
😇

Booking a flight and accommodation is often the first step in planning a trip abroad. However, thorough preparation isn’t just about these reservations. Administrative formalities, health, safety, and anticipating the unexpected are all aspects worth considering before departure to minimize hassles and fully enjoy your stay.
Researching entry requirements for the country Before any trip abroad, it’s essential to check the entry conditions for the destination. Passport validity, visa requirements, potential health regulations, and permitted length of stay can vary from one country to another. In some places, an international driver’s permit may also be required.
It’s best to handle these administrative formalities as early as possible, as some documents or authorizations may take several weeks or even months to process. Doing these checks ahead of time helps avoid last-minute surprises and lets you approach your trip with greater peace of mind.
Planning for health considerations before traveling Preparing for an international trip also means thinking about health. Depending on the destination, certain vaccinations may be recommended or mandatory. It’s also a good idea to pack your usual medications, assemble a travel first-aid kit, and research the quality of local medical facilities.
Medical costs can add up quickly in some countries, so it’s useful to assess your travel insurance needs and verify your coverage for medical expenses during the trip to ensure you have protection tailored to your stay.
Preparing for the unexpected Taking out travel insurance is one of the recommended steps before departure. Even with careful planning, unexpected events can disrupt a trip: health issues, hospitalization, lost luggage, or trip cancellations. Before purchasing, it’s important to compare travel insurance policies carefully: the coverage offered, reimbursement limits, exclusions, and assistance services. A good travel insurance policy (also called international travel insurance or overseas travel insurance) will cover various types of unforeseen events based on the traveler’s needs.
Thinking about the little details that make travel easier Other simple precautions can also contribute to a successful trip: • Informing your bank of your travel plans; • Bringing multiple payment methods; • Keeping digital copies of important documents; • Saving emergency contacts; • Checking your mobile plan’s international usage. These small checks, combined with the right travel insurance, often help you travel with greater peace of mind.
Conclusion A trip abroad isn’t just about booking transportation and accommodation. Anticipating administrative formalities, health considerations, and potential unexpected events well before departure is a key part of planning. Taking the time to assess your travel insurance needs is part of this preparation and helps you fully enjoy your trip, no matter the destination.

We're planning a 2-week trip in late February/early March for a road trip in the High Atlas with a rental car, and we'd love to avoid booking our accommodations in advance. Is that doable, easily manageable, or risky (are accommodations available, expensive, or not great)? Thanks for your tips!

Booking for October 28th to Varadero, on October 22nd I was notified that it was canceled. I called and changed it to November 7th, departure at 7 AM. On November 6th, an email informed me that it was delayed until 12:30 PM. My return from Varadero on April 14th, 2025—on November 17th, another email notified me that my return flight on April 14th would no longer be direct but would make a stopover in Toronto. So, a heads-up to those thinking of booking with Air Canada...
Booked a hotel in Hong Kong for 3 nights - displayed price with a good non-refundable Agoda deal at 401 €, listed as the last room. After payment, the same room was still available for 5% cheaper. Agoda refuses to refund the difference. You end up feeling scammed.
Hi,
Without booking in advance through an agency, is it possible/easy to organize luggage transfer from one night to the next between accommodations in Santo Antão?
Thanks.
Hey everyone!
Last-minute booking :-) I’ll be back in Thailand from May 12 to 26, and my itinerary is a blank page! Since it’s only two weeks, I’ll be bouncing between Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya, and Koh Samet.
My plan is zero stress and 100% discovery: beaches, walks, sightseeing, street food, nights out...
If you’re around and want to share some spontaneous moments, hit me up! The more, the merrier!
See you soon!
Hi there,
I just made a reservation for a Bangkok/Chiang Mai flight: - I searched via Kayak.fr. - Once I chose my flight time, I was redirected to the site https://kiwi.kayak.com/ (Kiwi.com). - I completed all the steps up to payment. - After paying, I received my authentication code on my phone and validated it. - And since then, nothing. No confirmation email, nothing on my Kayak, Kiwi, or AirAsia accounts. Has anyone else found themselves in this situation?
Also, which site would you recommend for booking a Bangkok/Chiang Mai flight and a Chiang Mai/Phuket flight?
Thanks for your help. Fred

Good evening,
I booked a one-month stay in an Airbnb in Thailand.
Is the booking confirmation enough for the 3-month single-entry tourist visa?
Hi, I’d like to know if a flight reservation for Bangkok is enough for the visa or if I need to wait until I have the actual ticket.
Thanks
Hi,
When booking the tickets to Martinique for our family, I must have made a mistake, and on one of the tickets, the third first name is wrong. Michel instead of Joel...
CORSAIR Airlines is telling me I have to buy a new ticket for 1200 € (Christmas period). I think that’s outrageous and, above all, impossible for us.
I’m desperate—I feel like Corsair is really overdoing it.
Is there any recourse? How can I get out of this?
I’m throwing this message in a bottle, just in case...😕
Thanks for your help.

Hi there, I made my bungalow reservations in Kruger Park through Sanparks. I’ve sent several emails but never gotten a response from them. It’s not possible to reach them via WhatsApp, and calling them costs an arm and a leg 😱. Have you had the same experience with Sanparks? Their website is pretty well done—they boast about giving the best care to questions people ask them, but when it comes to email responses... it’s a ghost town 😕
Hi,
I have a reservation for a solo stay at a club hotel on the island of Tenerife in the Canaries from 12/15/2024 to 12/22/2024.
I was supposed to go with a couple of friends who know the island well, but they canceled their trip.
Anyway, I’ve never traveled alone before, and I’m a bit nervous.
What do you recommend to help me not feel isolated, make the most of my stay, and connect with other people?
Thanks for your advice,
Happy holiday plans to everyone! !
My request:
We would like to modify our return flight booking scheduled for December 3 under reference: O__T.
We’d like a flight that gets us to France no later than January 27, 2025, under the same conditions as our current ticket. Please let us know the options and any additional fees. (We paid 2,256 € for the round-trip Bordeaux/Tamatave tickets for 2 people.)
Air Austral’s response: We’ve managed to free up seats for January 22. (Same class.) The penalty and adjustment fee is 895 € per person. (That’s 1,790 € for 2.)
My response: Given the outrageous prices Air Austral is charging for a date change, we’re confirming our flight on December 3, 2024, for Tamatave/Bordeaux. Also, you can count on me to share this experience with Air Austral on various online forums. It’s absolutely shameful to offer a flight change for 1,790 € when buying new tickets would cost us 1,564 €. I think Air Austral’s pricing policy is going to interest a lot of people online, and I can assure you that you’ve just lost two customers who will give you some great publicity.
Despite a complaint, no reaction from Air Austral—they’re clearly in big trouble...

Hi there,
We’re about to finalize a booking for late July near the Pink Granite Coast. We’re wondering about the traffic jams that could make our trip miserable, given how famous the place is—we’re excited to see it too. Could it get pretty bad?
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi,
We're looking at booking for July 2020 and considering a balcony cabin at a really good price.
One double and one triple.
I'd like to know if there are any risks (other than poor positioning... like at the back... or noise from corridors) on this new ship, especially with metal balcony partitions? Or obstructed views? The decks don't seem to have balconies on every level... or some facing the promenade instead of the sea directly.
I noticed something odd on deck 8... If anyone can give me some info... (see photo...) thanks in advance

Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?
Should I get breakfast or not?
What do you think of the restaurant?
Hi,
I’m currently in the process of booking my hotels.
I have a question about these two apps. I’m planning to use trips.com to book my trains (if I understood correctly, that’s the best way to do it).
Is there any advantage to booking hotels with trips.com, or can I keep using Booking? (I’m used to the interface.) My hidden question is whether it’ll work smoothly when I’m there (for new bookings or retrieving the ones I’ve already made).

The enr.gov.eg site says train reservations are only for Egyptians. What should I do if I want to book a first-class air-conditioned ticket (not a sleeper berth)?
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
Is it possible to change the dates or cancel a reservation in Kruger Park, please? What’s the process, and are there any fees involved? Thanks for sharing your experiences on this!

hi, I forgot the first of my partner’s 2 last names on the Ryanair booking (for example, his name is Durand Dupond but I only put Dupond). Do you think I need to change the reservation? It costs 110 €, so I’d rather avoid it—we’re traveling in Europe and leaving in 2 days. Thanks so much!
By 2030, the tourism sector is evolving with the rise of virtual agents, booking via social media, and the transformation of loyalty programs.
A recent study anticipates several major developments in the travel industry by 2030.
Virtual agents powered by artificial intelligence will become personalized assistants, capable of organizing trips based on travelers' individual preferences.
At the same time, social media will position itself as essential booking platforms, making it easier to purchase flight tickets directly through these channels.
Loyalty programs will also undergo a revolution thanks to NFTs, offering monetizable and diverse rewards.
Among the expected innovations are:
Fast and free Wi-Fi available on all flights The ability to explore your room in virtual reality before even arriving Eco-friendly accommodations featuring hanging gardens and green spaces 100% digitalized check-in and check-out, with no need to stop by the front desk Automatic refunds if the price of your ticket drops after purchase

Hi,
I swapped my first and last name when I made my reservation. I’d like to know if this could cause any issues for boarding or not? I have a layover in Istanbul on my way to Dubai.
Could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I just booked a trip to Vietnam on OPODO. The reservation is confirmed, but I can't figure out if they send an e-ticket and when? The site is pretty unclear, and it's hard to get information. I couldn't find any answers on the forums about e-ticket issuance. The airline used is Turkish Airlines, but it's the travel agency (so OPODO) that issues the tickets and sends them to the customer.
If anyone has any info or has had a recent booking with OPODO, thanks in advance.
Have a good evening
We're taking a boat to Iceland at the end of June with our 4x4 (HDJ80). The booking was made based on a vehicle not exceeding 1.90 meters in height. The new tire setup might make us slightly exceed this limit. Are they strict about heights? Are they checked at boarding (passing under a gate)? Some of you have probably faced this issue—thanks for your tips. Loading the vehicle carefully and, if needed, deflating the tires a bit should reduce the extra height.
Thanks
Thanks
Hi,
Did you attend the show at the Nadir Divan Begi Madrasa in Bukhara? What are the details for booking? Thanks in advance.
Have a great day and happy travels!

Hi there,
We’re heading to Cebu, Bohol, Negros, and Siquijor soon. Our guide is handling hotel and ferry reservations, and we’ll pay day by day. Is it easy to pay for accommodations by card, or is it better to have cash? Also, any idea about the cost of living? Is 1000 € per person for 3 weeks enough for accommodation, food, and ferries? That’s the estimate he gave us. Thanks in advance! 😊
Hello,
I’ve heard a lot about WISE for low-cost money transfers (booking/paying for safari services). I’m looking for feedback from people who’ve actually used WISE to pay at a restaurant or withdraw local cash from an ATM.
Could you share what you consider the "pros" and "cons" of the WISE debit card compared to a traditional bank card? Also, do you think there are any risks? If so, what are they? Thanks in advance for shedding some light on this—I’m only interested in firsthand experiences.
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to ask for your help with a bit of a problem:
I booked a flight to Berlin from Orly for April 15th—it’s coming up fast. But I just made an annoying discovery: my passport expired two weeks ago.
From what I understand, in principle, I can still travel within the Schengen Zone with an expired passport as long as it’s been less than five years. However, EasyJet’s website explicitly requires a valid ID (and just to add to the fun, my national ID card has been expired for a while now).
So, I’d love to know: how strict are EasyJet’s ID checks? Do they enforce validity rules strictly and refuse boarding if the ID isn’t valid? Or is it more of a luck-of-the-draw situation?
Basically, should I just write off this trip now, or should I still try my luck—maybe with a little tearful plea? Has anyone here had a similar experience? I can’t be the only one, right!
