I’m about to fulfill a dream that includes a trip to Patagonia between October and December 2026. I’ll be traveling solo.

My plan: - Take a boat from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales (4-5 days) - Torres del Paine National Park (2-3 days) - Bus from Puerto Natales to Ushuaïa (1-2 days) - Exploring around Ushuaïa (3-4 days) - Cruise from Ushuaïa to Punta Arenas (Oct 31 - Nov 4) - Rent a vehicle and head back up to Puerto Montt by around December 10, which is about 35 days total, via Los Glaciares, El Chaltén, Patagonia NP, Caleta Tortel, Villa O’Higgins, Puerto Río Tranquilo, Bahía Exploradores, Cerro Castillo NP, Coyhaique, Queulat NP, Chaitén, Pumalín NP, and Hornopirén NP.

My goal is to enjoy nature and do some hiking.

I’ll be in Torres del Paine around October 20—is the weather manageable for day hikes at that time?

30-35 days from Punta Arenas to Puerto Montt? That’s about 3,600 km. Is this timeframe doable to enjoy the scenery without rushing? If I arrive in the north earlier, it’s no big deal—I’ll just explore more spots above Puerto Montt.

Now, about the vehicle... I’m torn between a car + tent (regular car with a tent on top) and a small van. Is this enough for the Carretera Austral or unpaved roads? Or would a 4x4 be better? I’m not an experienced 4x4 driver—I’ve only driven occasionally to give the main driver a break on easy sections. A van is tempting for the comfort. Are there any rental options for slightly modified cars or ones where you can sleep, like a Kangoo?

Ma fiancée et moi même avons fraichement débarqués sur le continent, en Guyane, il y a 2 mois. Initialement nous avions prévu, pour début 2020, de se faire un road-trip rando et faune au Costa Rica mais avec notre déménagement surprise à Cayenne on s'est finalement dit que ça risquait d’être un petit peu redondant avec la Guyane (Foret tropicale, jaguar, perroquets tout ça tout ça...). D'où l'Argentine ! 😉 Enfin plus précisément la Patagonie.

Nous projetons donc de partir 3 semaines en Argentine entre Février et mi-Mars.

L'idée serait de faire un road-trip de 2 semaines et demi en Patagonie, en van si possible, et de finir par un aller-retour de 2-3 jours aux chute d’Iguaçu.

Le mieux semble d'arriver à El Calafate, d'y louer un van et faire une boucle avec El Chalten, si possible Torres del paine, puis descendre sur la terre de feu et Ushuaïa.

Je voulais rapidement voir avec ceux qui ont déjà visité cette région, si ça semble réalisable ? Est-ce que vous avez des loueurs de vans à conseiller ou autres conseils en tout genre ?

On est début mars 2020 et je rentre d'un séjour solo en Argentine dont une bonne part à Buenos Aires. Sur place, j'ai été effaré de tout ce que j'avais lu d'exagéré sur la sécurité à Buenos Aires. Je n'ai eu aucun souci nulle part, même la nuit (ou j'étais prudent). Prendre un taxi? (avec le cours du peso, c'est ridiculement bon marché pour un utilisateur d'euro) Que de bêtises n'ai-je pas lues (conseils de méfiance) avant d'être sur place? Il suffit de lever la main et, TOUJOURS, toujours le compteur du taxi est mis en route par le chauffeur. Le quartier de La Boca? J'avoue qu'après y avoir fait un tour, y compris dans des rues peu fréquentées , je me suis enfui, non pas de par une quelconque inquiétude, mais du fait de l'allergie à une invasion touristique industrielle insupportable.

Bonjour à tous, Nous envisageons un voyage au Brésil fin novembre pour 15 jours environ sur place. Après 3 jours à Rio, nous souhaitons ( avec mon mari) visiter le Minas Gerais sur 4 jours . Nous n'avons pas l'habitude de louer une voiture dans les pays étrangers, nous faisons toujours appel à des chauffeurs locaux. Les bus sont trop longs pour parcourir le MG en 4 jours. Est-ce que quelqu’ un connaîtrait une personne fiable ou un chauffeur pour un prix raisonnable pour aller de Rio à Ouro Preto via Mariana, Cogonhas, Tiradentes etc...AR ? Ou doit-on zapper par peur de la fatigue , de la conduite sur des routes que nous ne connaissons pas? Nous avons l'intention de faire appel à Easy transfers pour aller de Rio à Paraty et de Paraty à Ilha Grande, savez vous s'il existe ce genre de prestation pour le MG?

I’m still undecided on the direction: • Buenos Aires → Mendoza → Salta → Buenos Aires or • Buenos Aires → Salta → Mendoza → Buenos Aires.

I plan to explore each region, alternating between buses and a rental car.

In your opinion, which direction makes more sense for this itinerary (climate, roads, logistics, etc.)?

Next April, I’m planning a trip (the 1st) to Brazil. I’ll have 12 days there (not counting the 13th day for the return). I’ll arrive on 22/04 in the early evening in Rio de Janeiro. The return flight is from São Paulo on 04/05 in the afternoon. I know 12 days is very little for such a big country, which is why I’ll focus on a relatively small area: the southeast (though "small" is relative!). I’ve started mapping out the main stops for my trip, which would be: - Rio de Janeiro: 4 to 5 days? - Ilha Grande and maybe Paraty: 2 to 3 days - Iguazu Falls: Brazilian and Argentinian sides: 2 days - São Paulo: 1 to 2 days

What do you think? Is this reasonable? There are about 250/260 km between Rio and Paraty. I’d like to make the trip by rental car. What do you think? A car is definitely much more practical and faster than the bus. 12/13 days is short—I can’t afford to lose too much time in transit. To get to Ilha Grande, I understand there’s a ferry that shuttles between the mainland and the island. From which city can you take the ferry? Mangaratiba? Conceição de Jacareí? Angra dos Reis? If I arrive by rental car, where can I park it? I think cars are banned on the island, right? That’s where I’m at with my planning. Je souhaiterais également connaitre votre avis en terme de climat à cette période (août) en Colombie et Mexique.

Bonjour Ma compagne et moi serons en Argentine pour 3 semaines en Avril 2020. J'ai déjà planifié les 8 premiers jours entre Buenos Aires et Iguazu. Pour la deuxième partie je suis à présent déterminé sur le NOA argentin. Je m'interroge sur un circuit de 8 à 9 jours entre SALTA Nord et Sud. Nous sommes épicuriens donc aimons le vin, sommes tentés par de l'aventure bien que nous ne sommes pas aguerris en la matière et ne parlons pas espagnol seulement l'anglais. Du coup je m'interroge sur l'option à choisir : 1) prendre un guide (Français) à Salta pour 8 jours avec son véhicule qui nous traine et nous fait visiter le Nord puis nous amène aussi vers Cordoba voir Mendoza, mais est ce faisable sur 8 jours? Des adresses? des contacts à me proposer?

2) faire de Salta notre base, puis louer un véhicule pour faire la partie Nord en solo. Revenir à Salta et faire la même pour la partie Sud?

3) ne rien réserver et se poser à Salta et voir avec les agences locales ce qui est négociable?

J'aimerai me fixer d'ici fin Janvier alors je vous remercie sincèrement pour vos conseils car j'avoue ne pas arriver à m décider et c'est frustrant car j'ai envie d'avancer sur l'organisation de notre voyage.

We’re thinking of one or two "escapes" from Rio—3-day trips to get away from the city (so not too far, max 3–4 hours by car or bus). We’re all ears for suggestions! Hi there, We’re spending 3 weeks in Brazil, arriving in São Paulo—a couple plus a teen—and we’ll have a rental car. We especially love nature: hiking, wildlife watching, birds, etc. We’re planning to wrap up with a week around Paraty and Ilha Grande. We’re not really into visiting big cities like São Paulo or Rio unless you think we’d be missing out big time.

So we’ve got 2 weeks to explore the south/southwest region of São Paulo. What do you recommend? National parks? Off-the-beaten-path nature spots? Iguazu Falls?

We’re making a family dream come true: spending a month in Brazil from July 19 to August 20. We’ll land in Rio and spend 6 days there (we’ve finalized a home exchange for a lovely apartment in the Copacabana neighborhood). After that, we’re heading to Minas Gerais by rental car for 11 days (Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and the Inhotim Institute), then the Costa Verde, and finally 2 days in São Paulo.

We’ll be traveling with our three kids, ages 17, 14, and 9, who are real travelers and good hikers. Goes hand in hand, right? 😄

For now, we’ve planned to visit Ilha Grande (4 days) and then Paraty and its surroundings (3 days). What do you think? Ilha Grande appealed to us for its hikes and beaches, but couldn’t we do that along Paraty’s coast? I’ve read mixed reviews about Ilha Grande...

We’re thinking about our next destination for June 2026, and northern Brazil seems like a great option for that time of year.

We were considering a 15-day trip from Fortaleza to São Luís (or the other way around), but I’m worried it might not offer enough variety in terms of sights and landscapes. We were thinking of doing a trek in Lençóis Park, visiting Jericoacoara, the Parnaíba Delta, etc.).

The other option would be to take a domestic flight and add the Salvador de Bahia region and Chapada Diamantina, but that would require about 3 weeks.

Do you think exploring the coast between Fortaleza and São Luís is enough for a trip if we don’t kitesurf? Or is it better to combine this part of the country with another region (Salvador? The Amazon?)?

hi everyone, I’m just back from a 5-week trip to Argentina’s Northwest and San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. This was my second visit to the area—20 years apart—and my third trip to Argentina overall. still just as stunning! this time I explored the El Peñón and Antofagasta de la Sierra region in Catamarca province; I can’t recommend it enough. the road from Cafayate is good—easy in a Renault Logan—and once you’re there you’ve got 4x4 excursions and hikes. way fewer tourists than around Salta, and the landscapes are totally different. happy travels!

Hi everyone, We’re heading to Chile and Argentina for 4 weeks (Atacama Desert, Easter Island, and Chilean and Argentine Patagonia). For Patagonia, our itinerary (rental car) is as follows: 1 night in Puerto Natales 2 nights in Torres del Paine.

Then we’ll drive back up to El Chaltén, where we’ll spend 3 nights (fingers crossed the weather lets us do the two hikes we’ve planned). After that, we’re off to El Calafate for 2 nights (Perito Moreno Glacier). Our last day and night in Argentina will be spent at an estancia (Nibepo Aike). This is where I’m wondering: We have to drive in one day from the estancia (1.5 hours of dirt road from El Calafate) all the way to Punta Arenas. On paper, it seems doable. Hi everyone, I’m planning to spend about a week in the Amazon in April or May—the dates aren’t set yet—flying in and out of Manaus. I’d love to hear about the must-see spots in Manaus besides the theater and the Amazon Museum. After that, I’d like to take a boat trip on the Amazon or the Rio Negro to escape the city and find some peace for a 3- or 4-day trek in the forest. I also saw that the town of Presidente Figueiredo is worth visiting for all the waterfalls nearby. If you’ve been to Manaus and have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them. j'ai vue des compagnies ferry (Navimag) . pour les vols depuis paris après je sais pas où on arrive ? La perfide la moins froide aussi qu'il vaut mieux pour y aller. enfin un peu dans le vague pour l'instant.
