After some research, we’re leaning toward Malaysia to combine nature/forests and paradise beaches. The idea is to introduce our kids to the country’s culture, nature, and wildlife.

We want a great trip but without splurging on luxury options like high-end lodges and resorts. We’re looking for comfort with a touch of authenticity—basically, a good middle ground.

I’ve started putting together an itinerary and would love your expert advice and tips to help us build this amazing trip with our little ones.

Day 1: Departure from France

Day 2: Kuala Lumpur Stay at a hotel near the airport or KL Sentral. Just one night.

Day 3: Morning flight to Sandakan (Borneo). Stay in Sepilok

Day 4: Sepilok: * Orangutan Center * Malayan Sun Bear Center * Rainforest Discovery Centre

Day 5: Depart for Kinabatangan. Boat safari in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Sunrise safari. Jungle walk. Evening safari.

Day 7: Final safari. Return to Sandakan.

Flight to Kuala Lumpur, then to Kota Bharu (or overnight transit depending on schedules).

Day 8: Transfer to the port. Boat to the Perhentian Islands.

Days 9 to 13: Perhentian Besar 5 full days. * Snorkeling * Hiking * Turtle watching * Wild beaches * Relaxation

Day 14: Return to the mainland. Bus or private car to Taman Negara.

Days 15 and 16: Taman Negara.

Day 17: Return to Kuala Lumpur.

Day 18: Visit the Petronas Towers or Batu Caves

Day 19: Free day.

Day 20: Return flight.

Nous avons pour projet de partir 3 mois en avril, mai et juin avec nos deux enfants qui auront 6 ans et 3 ans. C'est encore un "projet" et nous bloquons vraiment sur l'itinéraire (qui me parait essentiel pour dessiner ce projet).

Pensez-vous que ce soit simple de faire Philippines > Malaisie > Indonésie ? (ordre le plus logique par rapport aux saisons)

Pensez-vous qu'une escale en nouvelle Calédonie ou Polynésie française au cours du voyage puisse être à envisager ?

Est-ce que l'ordre des pays vous parait le plus simple?

Bonjour à tous, après de nombreuses recherches au sujet du "camping sauvage sur ile inhabité en Asie", je me retrouve a poser ma question sur ce forum car très peu d'informations ou même de retours d’expériences sont disponible sur internet.

J'ai pour projet de partir 3 semaines avec un groupe d'ami sur une Île inhabité au mois de SEPTEMBRE 2020. Idéalement vis à vis de la saison, l’Indonésie, la Malaisie, les philippines paraissent être les endroits idéaux (saison & nombre d'île confondu).

Si je devais résumer vulgairement notre projet, il s’agirait de nous faire déposer en bateau sur une île inhabité avec nos ressources (eau, nourriture, tente & équipement indispensable a la survie) pour 3 semaines d'aventure, puis a la fin de cette période, le bateau reviendrait nous chercher pour nous ramener à la civilisation. C'est un rêves d'enfance que nous souhaitons réaliser ensemble en étant totalement conscient de la difficulté de ce projet un peu fou. Nous ne sommes pas débutant dans le domaine & la galère est notre recherche commune hihi.

Nos questions sont les suivantes : Est-il possible de faire du camping sauvage sur ces îles inhabités ? La population/gouvernement est-elle/il contre ce type de voyageur ? Quels sont les législations ? ...

Bien évidement si vous avez des retours d’expérience dans d'autres pays ou autres, si vous connaissez des personnes qui pourraient potentiellement nous renseigner ou même des liens que j'aurais loupé a ce sujet, merci de me les renseigner. Ca serait une aide précieuse dans l'organisation de notre périple.

We’ve planned: Day 1: KL Day 2: Cameron Highlands day trip from KL Day 3: KL → Taman Negara (bus) Day 4 & 5: Trek in Taman Negara Day 6: Taman Negara → Perhentians (bus + boat) Day 7 & 8: Perhentians Day 9: Perhentians → Pulau Redang (boat + bus + boat) Day 10 & 11: Pulau Redang Day 12: Pulau Redang → George Town (flight) Day 13: George Town Day 14: George Town → KL (flight) Day 15: KL + return flight at 23:45

I feel like this might not be the most efficient route. Any tips on how to optimize the order of things (even though I’d prefer to start with Taman Negara)? How’s the best way to travel between places?

Should we book everything (transport, accommodation, activities) in advance, or can we figure it out day by day? I prefer spontaneous travel to keep things flexible, but will there be availability, or will we be struggling constantly?

I’d love to get your thoughts and advice/tips for my trip to Malaysia.

I’m heading to Malaysia for 20 days starting in mid-August with three other people.

My plan was to go straight to Kota Kinabalu. I’d like to go rafting (if you have any agencies to recommend, I’m all ears), climb Mount Kota Kinabalu (is it worth it? And again, if you have an agency in mind), and check out the night market (I’m not entirely sure what it’s like).

After that, I’d head to Sandakan (not sure how yet) and do a little 3-day, 2-night safari.

Then from Sandakan (still not sure how), go to Tawau to visit Sipadan for some diving.

And then head back home.

Nothing’s set in stone yet—I’m open to tons of suggestions. I feel like I could do more. I’d seen Taman Negara jungle, but it’s way off the route, so I’m not sure if it’s doable. I’d also love to find other interesting diving spots.

For those who’ve been, what are your must-sees? We were thinking of spending the last 3 days on the Perhentian Islands, unless you’ve got another island to recommend near Borneo. Avec mon épouse nous projetons de partir pendant 22 jours sur place en Malaisie entre le mois de Mars et Avril.

Je prends donc un peu d'avance en essayant d'organiser un circuit pour profiter pleinement de la Malaisie Péninsulaire, de ses terres et de ses îles qui ont l'air si paradisiaques.

Comme lors de notre dernier voyage à Bali, nous partons dans l'idée de louer une voiture pour la totalité du séjour, aussi bien pour une question logistique que de confort.

Quid de d'août 2020 et de la possibilité ou non de partir à Singapour et en Malaisie ?

J'ai bien conscience que personne n'a encore réellement de réponse mais si, comme moi, vous avez vos billets d'avion en poche depuis longtemps, préparez votre périple depuis longtemps, réservez vos hôtels depuis longtemps, vous devez sans doute être dans l'attente des annonces officielles des différents gouvernements.

Me concernant, à l'heure actuelle, je me dis que la possibilité de partir est proche de 1%, que tout bouge très vite. Je n'ai donc rien annulé, je ferai cela au dernier moment (en juillet). Je me dis aussi que Singapour et la Malaisie sont des pays développés capable de répondre rapidement à la menace du Covid-19, idem pour la France.

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!

Sandakan → Sepilok: No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

Sandakan → Semporna: From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄). Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM. Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?

Semporna → Tawau: Found this via AI—is it legit? No online booking, as far as I can tell. Minivans leave from a stop in the Jalan Hospital area, near the Milimewa supermarket, supposedly???? And when you arrive, does it drop you at **Sabindo Square** in Tawau?????

Hi everyone, My 16-year-old son, my partner, and I are planning a trip to Malaysia in August.

Here’s what I’m thinking so far:

- KL (4 nights): The first day is a write-off, so that leaves 3 full days. - Cameron Highlands (2 nights): 1 full day for Mossy Forest, etc.

Now, the big question. I’m planning to go to Penang—either 3 or 4 nights. If I do 4 nights, I’ll have 3 full days to explore. If I do 3 nights, I’m thinking of spending 1 night in Ipoh.

Is Ipoh worth it for a day? Is 3 full days in Penang too much? - Perhentians (4 nights).

To finish, back to KL and a visit to Malacca, or maybe Singapore—but if it’s just for a day, it might not be worth it.

Has anyone been to Tioman Island? How did you get there? I saw a route involving a bus and car. Has anyone taken a Grab for this trip to avoid switching transport modes, especially since we have luggage and kids? 🙂 Thanks—I’m open to all your tips, since we don’t want to rent a car and we’d like to head up to the Perhentians afterward.

Je suis qq jours à nouveau à Singapour et j'aimerais faire un mini séjour balnéaire sur une île ou la côte.

Mais je vois des prix trop élevés sur Sentosa, Bintan, ... Je ne souhaiterais pas dépasser 50€ par nuit, idéalement moins de 30€.

J'ai pensé à l'île de SIBU ou de TINGGI qui sont déjà assez loin et je ne souhaite pas faire trop de route pour 4 jours de séjour. Auriez vous des adresses d'hébergement sur ces deux îles, sinon pour d'autres endroits, sur la côte ou une île ?

Bonjour à tous, Les billets d'avion pour la Malaisie sont réservés pour l'été prochain. Départ en famille (nos fils auront 11 et 12 ans) pendant 4,5 semaines à partir du 24 juin. Nous sommes allés en Indonésie cet été (la rédaction de la suite du carnet est en cours 😎) et nous avions adoré la visite de ce pays. Avec le recul, même si nous ne regrettons rien de notre programme, quelques jours supplémentaires de détente auraient été appréciés. Par conséquent, j'envisage de commencer notre voyage par quelques jours dans les îles (histoire de se poser après une année de collège pour nos fils et de travail pour nous - option snorkeling indispensable !) et également à la fin de nos vacances (cette année, nous avons fini nos vacances par un trek dans la jungle à Sumatra ; alors souvenir extraordinaire avec des images plein les yeux, mais "un peu" fatiguant tout de même 😉). Mon mari, consulté de temps à autre pour l'organisation 😛, souhaiterait même ajouter une étape îles/snorkeling au milieu de nos vacances !

Longue introduction pour vous soumettre mes premières réflexions et solliciter vos avis : - je pense que nous irons aux Perenthian et aux Tioman, ça nous aidera à nous faire un avis sans refaire deux fois le même endroit 🙂 - je serais bien allée à Kapas mais je lis des avis très divergents sur la durée à y prévoir (je pense consacrer trois jours à chaque séjour insulaire - je réfléchis à aller à Pulau Weh au nord de Sumatra (vol de 3 heures jusqu'à Banda Aceh depuis Kuala Lumpur + ferry). Nous y serions volontiers allés l'été dernier mais nous n'avions pas suffisamment de temps - j'exclus Langkawi en raison de la mousson prévisible à cette période-là de l'année

Des avis sur les îles ? Un classement en terme de fonds marins ? Nous sommes allés à Komodo l'été dernier, autant dire que la barre est haute 😉

Petite précision : nous visiterons uniquement la péninsule, réservant la découverte de Borneo à une autre fois

If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot? Hi there! We’ll be in Singapore for a few days and have 9 days off from there. We’d love to visit Borneo, obviously not everything since we only have 9 days. Ideally, we’d like to spend the last 2 days near the sea in Sabah. Of course, we know we’ll only be able to see a small part of Borneo, but the logistics seem a bit tricky in such a short time.

There’s so much to do that I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. Any feedback from people who know the area (I imagine not many have been there for such a short trip...) would be great! Thanks!

J'ai programmé un séjour à Kuala Lumpur du 9 au 15 décembre pour assister aux 8 Heures de Sepang, et je vais en profiter pour consacrer 2 jours de tourisme. J'étais déjà allé à Kuala Lumpur en 2015, mais j'aurais toutefois besoin de quelques informations d'ordre pratique. Comment choisir le bon endroit, le bon billet pour les transports, sachant que je ne maîtrise pas l'anglais. C'est bien là le plus compliqué, car je suis déjà fixé pour les endroits où je compte me rendre, et tout le reste est réservé. Je dormirai au Sri Enstek Hotel, à Labu. Le site indique qu'il est à 3,2 km du circuit (qui est lui-même très proche de l'aéroport), mais sur Google Map, ils mettent 7,5 km.... J'ai fait des recherches d'itinéraires (train, bus...) sur Google map, mais les temps de parcours semblent erronés Voici donc mes questions : 1/ Quels transports utiliser pour me rendre depuis l'aéroport (ou depuis mon hotel si certaines personnes connaissent) à : - Grottes de Batu - Tours Petronas - Putrajaya Pour info, je n'ai pas peur de marcher, du moment que çà n'est pas trop long. 2/ Où changer de l'argent sans risque d'arnaque, sachant que le premier jour, je devrais me contenter du trajet de l'aéroport à mon hôtel (qui propose des navettes) 3/ Sur Google Map, j'ai déjà téléchargé une carte pour pouvoir utiliser le GPS hors connexion. Le fonctionnement est-il aussi pratique que lorsque je suis connecté ? Ou est-il préférable de télécharger une autre application GPS ? 4/ Les prises de courant sont-elles les mêmes qu'en France ?
