The Ardennes, should I avoid them?

hi everyone,
just back from a little trip to the French Ardennes, and well, it wasn’t great...😕
people are cold, it’s depressing, the activities are just walks or the pool (when it’s even open...).
it feels like there’s a lot of poverty and tourism seems like an afterthought.
if anyone’s been there...
