Are the Ziz Gorges a must-see?
Hi there, I’m planning a 16-day itinerary: Ouarzazate, Aït Ben Haddou, Skoura, Valley of the Roses, Dades Valley and Gorges, Todra Gorges, Tinghir, Erfoud, Rissani, Merzouga, Tamegroute, Draa Valley, Nkob, Djebel Saghro, Boulmane Dades, and back to Ouarzazate.
I’m debating whether to add the Ziz Gorges and then Telouet.
Are the Ziz Gorges really worth the trip?
Is the Telouet site (which is in ruins) really worth the detour?
Thanks for your tips!
Looking for travel companions November/December 2026 for Mauritania
Hello,
I’d like to head to Mauritania between November 15th and the end of December.
I’m looking for a crew or group we could join for this adventure.
I’ll already be in Morocco, and my wife will meet me there. We’re traveling in an HDJ80 equipped for camping.
Dates and organization are flexible—we’re easygoing.
Northern Morocco, the kingdom of kif?
My first trip to Morocco dates back to the early 90s.
Four more followed...
I’d never gone further north than Casablanca, Volubilis, or Fez—it was time to fix that!
So I planned a route that would fill in the gaps while revisiting a few places.
This route is pretty classic—if you’re looking for something original, you might want to skip it!
The starting point of the trip: the city of Rabat.
The stops?
Azrou, Fez, Al Hoceïma, Akchour, Tetouan, Tangier, Asilah, and finally Rabat.
Mostly an urban trip, then.
Too much?
We’ll see at the end of the travel journal!

Marrakech – Dakar by Motorcycle for September 2027 – Tips and Travel Companions
Hi everyone,
I’m starting to plan a motorcycle trip from Marrakech to Dakar for September 2027.
The idea is to cross southern Morocco, then Mauritania, and finally Senegal all the way to Dakar, taking the time to explore the regions we pass through.
I’m especially looking for advice and feedback from people who’ve already done all or part of this route: recommended itinerary, road and track conditions, border crossings, formalities, safety, fuel, accommodations, must-see stops, things to avoid, etc.
I’d also love to hear your thoughts on traveling in September for this trip.
If any motorcyclists want to join the adventure, that’d be great! The idea is to form a small group, each covering their own expenses, and plan the trip together.
All your tips, experiences, and good addresses are welcome!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ideas for day trips within 2-3 hours of Marrakech?
Hi there,
I live in Casablanca and my parents, who are 80, will be joining me in Marrakech at the beginning of May for a few days.
We’ll be renting a car to get around.
Do you have any suggestions for things to see or visit within a 2-3 hour drive max from Marrakech that aren’t too touristy?
My parents can walk a bit, but at 80, no climbing Mount Toubkal!
Thanks so much in advance for your ideas!
7 weeks and 150 years between us on a southern Morocco road trip
We arrive in the evening in Marrakesh, and a taxi arranged by our friendly Riad is waiting for us. The driver takes us to the door, where we’re briefly greeted by our hosts. The room is heated—phew—because it’s really cold on this January 17th for our arrival. Riad Alisma, where we’re staying for 2 nights. The next morning, it’s pouring rain when we wake up, but after a good breakfast, the rain has calmed down. Off we go to the medersa, which allows for a relatively sheltered visit. We’d visited this palace 15 years ago—it’s been renovated since then.

From there, without the rain, we wander aimlessly and eventually end up near the tanneries, but it’s Sunday, and there’s very little activity. Of course, we get hassled by a tout.

Here, the hides after being treated with lime—I love the colors.
We part ways a bit annoyed. He gets a little revenge by giving us bad directions, and we end up outside the city walls. We decide to take a taxi to the new modern art museum—60 dirhams for the 5 km, which is nothing when you think about it. That tout, who we didn’t ask for anything and made it clear we weren’t buying anything, dragged us into a shop supposedly only open that day and demanded 50 dirhams for his "services"! Let’s forget that bad moment and enjoy the exhibition at the MACAL.

The taxi on the way back drops us off at Place des Ferblantiers, not far from our Riad. We’re a little peckish—it’s worth mentioning that at lunchtime, we only ate a plate of beans from a street vendor. So, we buy a bunch of little sweets, each more delicious than the last, at Ajar. We snack while sipping mint tea and watching life go by around us. A final visit to the Museum of Moroccan Cuisine on our way back helps us dodge a few more showers. Then it’s back to the Riad. The atmosphere in the city is heating up—it’s the AFCON final tonight. The temperatures, though? Not so much. We ordered a meal at the Riad, and it was a good call—not only was it really tasty, but the rain also picked up again. Our day in Marrakesh ends under the covers with a good book and some photo sorting. Still, we managed 10,750 steps. View of our Riad

Tomorrow, we’ll pick up our rental car from Medloc and head to Essaouira.

Recommendations for a southern Morocco road trip with kids
Hi there,
We’re heading out at the end of February for a road trip with our two kids, ages 3 and 7. Our itinerary includes Ait Ben Haddou, Tizi-n-Tichka, Sourate, Tinghir, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Ouzoud, and Essaouira. I’d love recommendations for accommodations, restaurants, and typical/spectacular spots to visit. We’d like to spend a night in the Zagora desert. We’re looking for authenticity and a friendly vibe—not tourist traps—for our trip. We’ll be there during Ramadan—any tips? Thanks in advance!

Is a local SIM card or an eSIM better for Morocco?
Hi there,
For a 3-week trip to Morocco, what would be your advice for using your phone locally (to book accommodation, chat with a host on the road, etc.)? Is it better to buy an eSIM before leaving, get a local SIM card once there, or are there other options?
Thanks for sharing your good and bad experiences!
Quad excursion in the Moroccan desert: where and with which agency?
Hi there,
We’re planning a one-week trip to Morocco at the beginning of November and would like to book a quad bike or buggy excursion for three days in the desert with a local agency.
Could you tell us which is the best desert to explore and recommend a reliable agency?
Thanks.
Itinerary ideas for a week in Morocco
Hi everyone, I’ve given my 18-year-old daughter a week in Morocco in February. I’d like to mix a bit of Marrakech (or elsewhere) with a hotel and pool, plus a trip into the desert with some beautiful dunes.
How can I structure this without making the journeys too long? Is it possible to do Marrakech to the south in 2 days, stopping at lovely spots along the way? Just to clarify, I’d prefer not to rent a car, and my daughter isn’t very "adventurous."
Thanks in advance for your replies and tips!
Passport validity for Morocco
Hi,
I’m leaving for Morocco on 18/10 with my wife and daughter. I’ll be returning to France on 25/10. My daughter’s passport expires on 30/11, which is less than 90 days before we return to France.
Can I still travel to Morocco with my daughter?
Thanks

Looking for a car rental agency in Algiers...
Hi there, we’re planning a road trip in northern Algeria at the end of January – early February.
Anyone have any tips for a car rental agency that’s both reliable and not too expensive? Thanks in advance!
Travel companion for Mauritania / Senegal in November by 4x4
Hi everyone,
A well-prepped 4x4, a travel plan across Africa in stages since I’ve got kids to see regularly and work to earn a living.
I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I want to share this rediscovery because two’s better than one!
Just traveling, exploring, and living! !
Comprehensive travel insurance for camper van in Mauritania and Senegal
Hi,
With a camper van that's less than 3 years old, we're heading from France to Senegal via Mauritania.
Our comprehensive insurance covers us for Morocco. However:
For Mauritania:
- How can we get insurance for 1 week in Mauritania?
- Where and which reliable agency should we contact in Morocco? (Not the "guide" at the border) - Darkhla or elsewhere? Please, do you have any contact details?
- Is it possible to take out comprehensive insurance, not just third-party liability?
- Please, do you have any idea of the rates?
For Senegal:
- Can we take out comprehensive insurance in Diama or St Louis for 3 weeks or 1 month?
- Which reliable agency or company? Please, do you have any contact details?
- Please, do you have any idea of the rates?
Thanks so much
Road conditions from Taliouine to Tafraoute and then from Tafraoute to Foum Zguid
Hello my friends,
You can't imagine how happy I am to be back on my beloved site, loved by its traveling men and women!!!!!
I want to travel with my little family (by car, not 4x4) from Taliouine to Tafraoute—it's a route I haven't taken yet (I've already done the one via Igherm), and I don't know the condition of the R106 road. Then, once that's done, our destination will be Zagora via Foum Zguid. I don’t want to go to Tata; my wife can’t stand that city. (I don’t mind because there’s a little local bar that’s not bad ;))
If you have any info, especially about the road conditions in October, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks so much, and I’m so happy to be back here.

France-Morocco road trip: Algeciras-Ceuta crossing
Hi everyone,
Even though I come to Morocco four times a year, it’s been a long time since I’ve made the trip by car. I need to refresh my knowledge! I’ll be traveling in early October. I have a car that’s about 20 years old. The plan is to cross via Algeciras/Ceuta.
A few questions:
1) Does this crossing still exist? If so, do I need to buy the ticket in advance or on the spot? From whom? Any advice is welcome!
2) What documents are required for the car?
3) If anyone is making the trip around the same time, it could be fun to drive together 😊
I know there are experts on this forum.
Thanks in advance

Driving from France to Senegal to deliver a vehicle
Hi there,
We’re planning to drive to Senegal by car. We’re a little nervous because it’ll be our first time making the trip with a car that isn’t ours. We’re doing the trip to deliver it to its owner. Has anyone here done this before? What documents will we need?
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Visiting Rabat or Casablanca with a camper van?
Hi there,
I’m planning a trip to Morocco in our camper van for September/October, and I’m torn between visiting Rabat or Casablanca (we don’t want to spend too much time in big cities). Could you share your thoughts, as well as a campsite or secure parking spot where we could spend the night?
Thanks
Questions about a road trip in Algeria
I’m heading out solo on September 14, 2025, for a month-long road trip in Algeria. Taking the ferry from Almería to Ghazaouet on September 17. Planning to visit Tlemcen, Oran, Tipaza, Algiers, Ghardaïa, Constantine, M’Chouneche, Ouargla, and the Tadrart Desert toward Djanet.
How do I go about booking accommodations? What’s the best way to exchange currency under good conditions? What are the restrictions for traveling alone by car, and is it possible to drive solo all the way to Ghardaïa? I still have a spot available if anyone’s interested.

Where to buy a SIM card when arriving in Marrakech?
Hi, the question is actually in the title.
I’m heading to Marrakech in July and would like to know where to buy a SIM card when I arrive—at the airport or in the city? Where’s the best quality/price?
Thanks in advance for your tips.
