Southwest part 2: 55 days in Colorado-New Mexico-Arizona-Nevada-Utah
Hi there,
In early May 2024, we camped at Moonscape, but what a surprise when we arrived at the end of the day—there were already a good ten cars there to camp!!! It was our third visit to this site, and the first two times in 2019 and 2022, we hadn’t run into anyone!!! We were pretty disappointed when we got there, but actually, there was no problem sharing this magical place. People were respectful, and there’s plenty of space, so we didn’t get in each other’s way. On the contrary, we shared an apéritif with our “neighbors,” some amateur American photographers. 😛
Must-sees in the American West
Thanks Guillaume for this amazing travel journal—personally, I made some great discoveries, especially in Nevada. So happy to see the stunning Utah landscapes in photos again!! You really crushed it covering all those hiking miles 😊. Kudos and thanks again for sharing!

Living in your car while traveling in the United States
Hi, I know about that Alamo discount, but isn’t it supposedly reserved for travel industry pros? I’ve never dared use it—maybe I was wrong!

Wow!!! Now *that’s* a comeback!!! Alright, I’m settling in to follow your adventures!! Thanks for this new travel journal!
Southwest! 8 weeks with the family, Denver-Denver loop, 1st part...
This travel journal start is amazing! In May 2022, Bandelier was closed due to wildfires—we were also charmed by the colors of Painted Mines. Can’t wait for the rest of your trip!! 🙂
Living in your car while traveling in the United States
Hi there! For our last three trips, we chose to sleep in the car as much as possible, so we rented in the suburban category. We got a Suburban twice and a GMC Yukon XL once. They were great in terms of comfort and handled the off-road tracks at Valley of the Gods, Alstrom Point, and others really well. On the other hand, in 2022 and 2024, it really hurt the wallet! Gotta make it worth it :)

Fabienne

Hello,
Well done and thank you for this travel journal! What an amazing family trip—with a capital F!!! I’m planning our 3rd stay in southern Utah (so no mosquitoes ;)) for next May, and it’s so nice to pass the time by enjoying your lively story and all your photos!! Our first two trips out West were in July, so this time, in May, we’re hoping for milder temperatures! ;) Once again, thank you for this travel journal! Fabienne

A (slightly late) return from Thailand
hi,
Thanks for this lovely post! 🙂 We loved it. I had of course noted quite a few visits before leaving, but I also left room for spontaneity, so we just went with the flow throughout the trip, soaking up the local vibe, and really enjoyed the country and its people in complete peace. It’s so refreshing!! Your posts on the forum were some of the ones that made me want to see for myself what this famous Land of Smiles was all about 🙂. Have a great day, Fabienne

A (slightly late) return from Thailand
Hi Catherine,
So glad this little recap inspired you for your next trip! I can’t tell you what you should or shouldn’t do—it really depends on everyone’s tastes. The advice I’d give for a 2-week trip is to either visit Bangkok and the north (the route up to Chiang Mai and beyond) or Bangkok and the south. Our stay lasted just under 3 weeks, and even though we enjoyed Chiang Mai a bit, we were a little frustrated not to have had more time to explore that part of Thailand. That’s why I’d recommend focusing on one region for 2 weeks. I can confirm that you can easily plan your trip from home. There are some great travel journals on this forum about Thailand (mine is pretty modest in comparison… ), so you’ll find all the info you need. Happy planning, fabienne

Hi Deborah,
We didn’t go snorkeling, but I know there are some nice spots not far from Ban Saphan, around Koh Thalu (or Talu) island. Have a great trip! Fabienne

Aller ou pas en Thaïlande?
Bonjour Sandrine,
