Visiting the Yucatan by train

Hi there,

Why not rent a car? Driving isn’t complicated in Mexico—there’s not much traffic on the roads. You just need to be very careful with the "topes" (speed bumps) of all kinds, which are everywhere in villages and at intersections. We rented one for 14 days for around 25 € per day. Nearly new SUV (Nissan Kicks), no security issues, and no problems with the police. There are lots of checkpoints, but we were never stopped over 2,400 km. It gives you so much flexibility with travel, schedules, lets you go off the beaten path, and saves comfort (luggage) and time.

Enjoy your trip! Heiata
Reviews on car rentals in Cancun
by Heiata · 2025-11-25 · 0 replies
Hello, I'm leaving for Cancun next January and I'm looking for a rental car. I'm overwhelmed with all these cheap offers like Booking, Carigami, and others... Some reviews mention extra insurance fees that had to be paid on-site. I’d love to hear about your experiences—what company did you use? Were you charged any additional costs? Many ads redirect us to touracancun, but they don’t inspire confidence. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi, we rented from Localiza through Booking. We have a Gold card, which is quickly reimbursed if you travel. Everything went smoothly—vehicle in perfect condition (like new) with 14,000 km, very clean. Quick formalities and friendly staff (who speak English, which was helpful since we don’t speak Spanish at all). Competitive price (>30 €/day) for a Nissan Kicks, a mid-sized SUV, well-suited for Mexican roads and their infamous "topes." The Localiza agent handling the paperwork (and offering insurance—it’s their job) didn’t push when I said it wasn’t necessary and replied, "With a Gold card through Booking, you’re already well covered." Returning the car was quick and fair. As a precaution, we filmed the car briefly at pickup and took a few photos (2 small ~1cm scratches on the bumper), but it wasn’t necessary—though it’s still good advice when renting a car, which we do about 3 times a year. Enjoy the Yucatán with peace of mind
Résevation d'hôtels aux États-Unis

Bonjour,

bon voyage Heiata
