Upcoming 20-day trip to Malaysia and Singapore in February 2027
by Luan · 2026-09-28 · 0 replies
Hi,

I spent 2 days in the Cameron Highlands, Malacca, and Penang too—I really liked them, they were great. In Kuala Lumpur, I stayed in the Indian quarter, which was pretty unique.

I visited Singapore last June—the Botanic Garden is really nice to check out.

You get a 30-day visa exemption when you arrive, and a second visa exemption when you return to Thailand.
Thailand in transit: which visa with the new regulations?
by Luan · 2026-09-11 · 1 reply
Hi,

Just to confirm—you need proof that you’ll leave Thailand within 30 days of your visa exemption. The airline might give you trouble when departing from France. I’m in the same boat—I’m heading to Laos in February after Thailand. Last year, I bought a flight ticket valid for 48 hours that wasn’t too expensive, and you can show it to the authorities if they ask. Personally, only some airlines have asked me for it—never the authorities upon arrival.

Hi,

Yeah, it's tricky—getting around, finding accommodation, even eating, since lots of small eateries are closed. I avoid Tet now.
Transport, accommodation, and great spots for a month in Cambodia

For Phnom Penh, I spent 3 nights at the Vacation Boutique Hotel two years ago. It was well-maintained in a neighborhood I know well, and I really liked it—clean and well-kept. But I don’t know how it is now; in Asia, hotels can deteriorate quickly. I’ve had a lot of bad surprises with poorly maintained guesthouses.
Miscellaneous Questions: Airport Transfer - Bus Terminal - TDAC Thailand
by Luan · 2025-11-25 · 0 replies
Hi,

To get to Mo Chit from the airport, take the Airlink from the basement (elevated metro). You can exchange money at the same level with a really good rate—don’t do it at the arrivals floor. Then get off at Makkasan and take the metro—it’s well signposted. I don’t remember the direction, but you get off at Mo Chit (it’s not the bus terminal station). From there, take airport bus #1, which drops you at Mo Chit North Bus Station. That’s what I usually do—it’s the cheapest option and no scams.
Finding a decent flight to Thailand
by Luan · 2025-11-23 · 1 reply
Hi,

Last winter I paid 650 € for my round-trip ticket from Paris to Bangkok with Oman Air.

I’ve still seen them for 600 € round-trip in January.

I booked a round-trip with Etihad for 700 €, leaving in early January.

You can find flights between 600 € and 700 € with Air India—they’re cheap, but yeah, it’s Air India.

Thanks again

Should you book hotels far in advance in Hanoi and Da Nang?
by Luan · 2025-09-07 · 1 reply
Hi there,

There are tons of guesthouses and hotels in DA NANG and Hanoi, so you’ll easily find somewhere to stay. At worst, you can book the first night and look for something else the next day. As for prices, I didn’t really notice any variations. I was there in February and March this year, and I’m going back in 2026.

Just so you know, the weather wasn’t great in DA NANG (rainy and not very warm), and Hanoi wasn’t warm either. January is also the cold season, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, it’s an amazing country.
Where to go in Thailand without mass tourism and near the sea?
by Luan · 2025-09-07 · 0 replies
Hi there,

I stopped by Koh Phayam and stayed a few days before hopping on a sailboat that picked me up. I really liked this island—it’s pretty quiet with a laid-back crowd. You can rent a scooter to get around, which is pretty much essential on the island. There are plenty of simple guesthouses in good locations. I took a slow boat from Ranong, one that also transports goods—it was a cool experience, but not easy to find near the fishing port.

My guesthouse was in a great spot but not super comfortable. Just a heads-up: prices are higher than on the mainland.

Happy travels!
What to see and do in Battambang in August for a photography enthusiast?
by Luan · 2025-08-28 · 3 replies
Hi,

For Battambang, you need to get out of the city. I’ve done it alone and also with a Khmer guy who lived in France. Sam—he has a website, O Hamok Lodge or Sam Battambang. Explain your project to him, and he’ll show you the region like never before.

Neighborhood / hotel advice for last night in Bangkok before returning to France
by Luan · 2025-08-05 · 0 replies
Hi,

Personally, I’d stay near the airport in the Lat Krabang district—there’s a night market, and the next day you’re right by the airport. If you choose to stay in Bangkok, pick a hotel close to the airport Skytrain, at Phaya Thai or Makkasan stations. That’s ideal!

Dual pricing in Hoi An and big changes in 8 years
by Luan · 2025-05-01 · 5 replies
Hi there,

I’ve been going to Hoi An regularly for the past 3 years, first time was in 2007. Things have definitely changed, but honestly, dual pricing has always existed in Vietnam, even if indirectly. Personally, I’ve never seen two different menus. A 1,000 dong difference is just 0.034 cents on your bread.🤔 Plus, I know that Vietnamese locals don’t pay the same prices as tourists in a lot of places.
