Where to relax in India?
Hi Penelou,
India is 6 times the size of France, so you’ll have to make some choices... But there are plenty of spots to relax in northern India.
For example, Gujarat, especially from November to the end of February, is the best season for this state. Beaches (Mandvi, Diu), architectural wonders (Patan, Palitana, Junagadh, Dwarka)...
Madhya Pradesh is also a less-visited state, apart from Khajuraho and Gwalior. Yet it’s full of treasures (Maheshwar, Mandu, Chanderi, Udayagiri, Bateshwar, Amarkantak).
In West Bengal, you’ll find unique red-brick temples, like those in Bishnupur, Bolpur, or Rajbari. And Odisha, which I love too... :)
Request for feedback and tips on Sri Lanka itinerary with Mumbai extension
Hi there :)
I won’t answer about Mumbai, but I will about Sri Lanka.
Your itinerary looks great! You could add a visit to Ridi Viharaya between Kurunegala and Dambulla—you’ll love the tip.
You’ll also see elephants around Sigiriya, and there are lakes where you can take a boat to observe wildlife (birds!!!).
Haputale and the area: excellent choice!
After that, the drive to the very touristy Udawalawe National Park might be long.
Tangalle: the region is quite large, so there are plenty of nice places to stay.
And Galle is worth a full day :)
I spent 4 months there last winter and I’m going back in November/December :)
Opinions on Sri Lanka itinerary
Hi there, how are you traveling? By bus? By car? If it's by bus and tuk-tuk, skip Jaffna and Kalpitiya (unless you're into kite surfing, but 3 days isn't much!)
You can't see everything in 15 days anyway. A tip: Take your time! You’ve got to choose and set limits if you want your trip to be a success :)
P.S: I’d go with the second option, dropping Jaffna and Kalpitiya.
Online visa application for Indonesia
Hi,
I think the easiest way is for you to go to the Indonesian embassy in Bkk—you’ll get it more easily that way.
For the two-month renewable visa, you need bank proof that you have $2,000 in monthly income!!! Otherwise, you can only apply for a one-month renewable visa.
On the website, I kept getting "payment failed" every time, so I did it on arrival. I stayed 4 months in Sulawesi, renewed it easily at an immigration office, then after two months, I left the country (Malaysian Borneo—it was amazing!) and came back with a one-month visa on arrival, which I renewed.

Transport from the Togians to Makassar, North Sulawesi (Indonesia)
Hi there, the easiest way to get from the Togians to Makassar is by plane from Luwuk, and by taxi from Ampana to Luwuk up to that point. But why go to Bira after the Togians?
In 3 weeks, you’ll have time to visit the north, but adding the south would be too "rushed"...
Bunaken, Tangkoko, Tomohon, and Tumbak! Yoan Parizot’s place is the absolute best for snorkeling, then Gorontalo and the Togians. And your 3 weeks will be well-packed :)
4 weeks with family in Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi)
Hi there! I’d planned to go, and well... long story short, I’d noted quite a few dive centers on Wangi Wangi Island and Tomia Island. Just search "dive center" on Google Maps, and look for homestays to stay at :)
On FB, I’d found "Ahmad Divemaster"—people raved about him. He takes care of everything. Otherwise, I’d also heard great things about "explorewithmanuela," who specializes in South Sulawesi.
I’d picked Tomia Island and Hoga Island for myself: "https://www.indonesia-tourism.com/blog/hoga-island-beautiful-islands-belongs-to-wakatobi/"

First trips after...
Hi there, sorry, I was at the end of the world (Sulawesi).
Yes, a great place is Dar Dunia (with a U, not OU) on Airbnb or Facebook.
From 20 € per night for one person. The price has gone up a bit because he finished building his lovely little pool :)
First trips after...
Hello :)
It’s such a joy to be back on VF and with all you VFers!
In 2020, I didn’t treat myself to implants, but to a tiny house—which I had to sell six months later because of violent neighbors. But I used the profit to buy an even nicer one. Long story short, it was one of the worst years of my life.
In 2021, I spent a week in the Drôme, and on the plane, I ran into my cousin!!!
Then, in late November, I went to Morocco for 15 days, but three days after I arrived, the borders closed! Second lockdown!
Well, I stayed. I ended up spending five months in Chefchaouen.
I was the only tourist, and life was really tough financially for the locals...
I couldn’t go home, but I was so happy there.
I found a homestay with a super nice French guy, Thierry (who runs Dar Dunia), and I loved it so much that I went back the following winter.
Then, in October 2022, a travel agency warned me that my 500 € credit (for a canceled flight in 2020) would expire in 2023! So in December, I made a quick decision and spent a month in Mexico before heading back to Morocco :)
After that, there was a cat-sitting gig in Cannes, then dog-sitting in Panama, back to Cannes, then cat and dog-sitting in Sri Lanka, followed by a trip to India, and then Cannes + Nice again (more cat-sitting). Now, I’m off for five months, the first two in Sulawesi! D-Day minus 7!!! :)
Long live early retirement!!! As long as I still have my wits, I’m making the most of it! 😄
Wishing everyone amazing travels
Un petit tour au Tamil Nadu
Merci Christine!!!

Là on reste quelques jours (4? 5?)
On va devoir choisir...
Merci 🙂
D'Aurangabad à Belur (Karnataka)
Moi aussi ca me donne envie d'y retourner...
Mille merci Marie Jo 🙂
D'Aurangabad à Belur (Karnataka)
B'jour Raga :)
Superbe livre? waouh!😊
