Hi Paul, I was in Madagascar (Ivato) from 1969 to 1971 (July), same time as Nosybé2! Same profession. Like him, I was a radio operator and also went to Nosy Be several times. With my friend Mahistre, we took care of the CMAI by Lake Ambohibo (!) Water skiing, sailing, and working with young people.... I returned to Madagascar in 2005 and 2007 with an association (building schools) in the Zafamanary region on the central highlands of the island. Great memories! But exhausting! We were supposed to go to the Comoros and Nosy Be at the end of 2013, but family issues made us postpone the trip.

Hi jlou82, I just saw the photo of the boat on Lake Ambohiboa - It brings back good memories because back then (1970) I was often at CMAI since my friend Claude Mahistre and I used to tow water-skiing enthusiasts and we ran the club (regattas, etc.). I lived in Cité Cadres in Ivato. I passed by there in November 2007 during one of my trips to Ivato: ouch - With my association, I often go to the Ambositra region in Zafamaniry country, a bit below Antsirabe. So many memories... too long to tell here - and Nosy Be.....

Je peux répondre à votre question : Je fais partie d'une association humanitaire pour Mada. : BABAKOTO ( voir notre site : www.babakoto.zouig.org - Nous construisons des écoles dans la région montagneuse des Zafamanary à Ambositra à l'est d'Antsirabé dans les montagnes . en plus des écoles, autrefois on approvisionnait les CSB ( centre de soins de base ) dans ces villages - Depuis le mois de Janvier 2009, il est interdit d'amener des médicaments dans les bagages car attention la douane ..... Nous les achetons sur place à bas prix pour les mettre à la disposition des Zafamanirys - Des gens de notre asso vont à Mada 2 fois par an généralement en mai et octobre sauf cette année .... vu les événements !!!! Je pense que j ai répondu à votre question . Si vous voulez d'autres infos pas de problème ....

Hi everyone, I just discovered this site about the Amporaha military camp—so many memories! I was stationed at the Ivato Air Base from 1969 to 1971 as a radio operator at the reception center (the head of the STA was Captain Vesan). I did three tours as a radio operator, including setting up a camp. At Ivato, a buddy and I ran the CMAI Nautical Club (sailing and waterskiing). I have wonderful memories of my time in Madagascar—I still go back often on humanitarian missions (with the Babakoto Association) in the Antsirabe region (Ambositra).
