Your thoughts on my Sri Lanka itinerary plan
hi everyone, I’m putting together an itinerary for Sri Lanka in September 2026, so I’m focusing on the east side of the island because of the monsoon on the west coast:
Day 1 Kandy: botanical garden, fruit and vegetable market, traditional dance show
Day 2 Kandy-Ella train
Day 3-4 Kumana NP or Lunugamvehera Block 6+5
Day 5-6 Komari / Pottuvi lagoon safari
Day 7 head up the east coast along the beaches to reach Wasgamuwa NP
Day 8 Wasgamuwa NP early morning safari, then Polonnaruwa (temple and palace)
Day 9-10 Sigiriya Lion’s Rock and Dambulla, cave temple
Day 11-12 Wilpattu NP early morning safari, then late afternoon
Day 13-14 Kalpitiya, snorkeling and chilling
Day 15 return to Colombo
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on whether this route is doable—we’ll be traveling with a driver-guide.
Feel free to mention any great tips or good homestay experiences you’ve had, since we prefer those.
Back from a 3-week trip to South Africa and Mozambique
Hi everyone,
We’ve just returned from a 3-week trip to South Africa:
2 weeks in Kruger Park, Manyeleti, and White River
5 days in Vilankulo
1 day in Johannesburg
If you have any questions or are planning your trip, don’t hesitate! 🙂
Are cooking facilities provided in the bungalows at Kruger Park?
It seems that cooking equipment and utensils aren’t provided in the bungalows at the rest camps in Kruger Park 🤪
We’ve booked bungalows at Shingwedzi, Olifants, Mopani, and Satara.
What cooking equipment is provided for preparing meals? Is it better to bring our own gear?
Thanks so much for your feedback!😎
Feedback on Blyde River Canyon itinerary
Hi everyone,
Before entering Kruger Park, we’re planning a stop in Graskop on the way from Johannesburg, then spending two nights at Hippomoon Lodge.
I’ve mapped out the following route for a single day between Graskop and Hippomoon Lodge, but I’m wondering if it’s a bit too packed?😐
Visit the Blyde River Canyon in a full day – approx. 180 km / 2h40 drive, leaving Graskop at 8:30 AM:
- Graskop Gorge Lift on the R533 towards Hazyview
- The Pinnacle Rock
- Lisbon / God’s Window / Berlin Falls
- Lunch at The Chubby Pig
- Treur River
- Bourkes Luck, Farm, Moramelo, Uitspanning (33 km from Graskop Gorge Lift)
- Bourke’s Luck Potholes
- Three Rondavels viewpoint
- ???Hike starting from Blyde Canyon: A Forever Resort / the guinea fowl trail / Lower viewpoint
- Entry to Swadini for a Boat Cruise on the Blyde River (boat excursion in the Blyde Canyon)
- Blyde Dam boat cruise
- Drive to Hippomoon Lodge to arrive around 5:00 PM
Thanks in advance for your feedback and experiences!😎
Safari itinerary in Kruger Park and surrounding areas
Hi everyone,
I’m sharing the following itinerary for your experienced eyes 😏—I’m finalizing it for Kruger Park and two camps outside the park. We’re starting in the north, entering through Phalabowa Gate to head to Shingwedzi:
Shingwedzi Camp: 2 nights, sunrise drive Mopani Camp: 2 nights, morning walk and night drive Olifants Camp: 2 nights, morning walk Satara: 1 night, sunset drive Manyeleti Game Reserve: 1 night at Buffelshoek Lions Rock Luxury Tented Camp: 2 nights
Did I pick the right sunrise and sunset drives? Thanks in advance for your feedback and experiences! 😎

Car choice for Kruger National Park
We're heading to KNP for a week next September and rented a Toyota Starlet. In the meantime, I've read reviews about the poor condition of gravel roads and potholes. I'm wondering if I made the right choice with this type of car, risking damage and potentially paying a lot for repairs 🏴☠️. What's the point of renting a budget car that's not suited to the somewhat unpredictable road conditions in the Park??
Whereas an SUV, in addition to offering better wildlife visibility, would handle degraded roads better and allow us to take more rugged trails, which are often rich in wildlife-spotting opportunities?? 🙂
I'd love to hear about your experiences 🙂

Communication difficulties with Sanparks
Hi there, I made my bungalow reservations in Kruger Park through Sanparks. I’ve sent several emails but never gotten a response from them. It’s not possible to reach them via WhatsApp, and calling them costs an arm and a leg 😱. Have you had the same experience with Sanparks? Their website is pretty well done—they boast about giving the best care to questions people ask them, but when it comes to email responses... it’s a ghost town 😕
Looking for information on satellite phone rental in South Africa
hi, I’m planning to rent a satellite phone starting from Johannesburg for our three-week trip through South Africa and Mozambique. I’ve found two rental companies and was wondering if anyone has used them in South Africa for this kind of service?
They’re SAT 4 RENT and RENT A SAT. RENT A SAT is the cheaper option but only includes 10 minutes of satellite communication—after that, it’s $1.99 USD per additional minute.
Thanks for any feedback you can share!

Travel time from Phalaborwa Gate to Shingwezi Camp - Kruger Park
Hi everyone, has anyone been to Shingwezi Camp in the northern part of Kruger Park? I read on the SanParks website that the drive from Phalaborwa Gate to Shingwezi Camp takes 12 hours🤯. Can anyone confirm this? When I check Google Maps, it shows a 5-hour trip?? Thanks for your replies 😅
