Price of a car with driver in Chiang Mai in 2025
by Marien33 · 2025-02-07 · 3 replies
Hi, I’d been told it was between 2,000 and 2,500 THB per day. 3,000 THB for Doi Inthanon... The driver I found gave me different prices depending on my destinations: 5,000 THB for the waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park, which I negotiated down to 4,000. Then 2,000 for Lamphun, 3,000 for another day, and two times 3,500 for two other itineraries I showed him. In total, 16,000 THB, which I negotiated down to 14,000. I’m wondering if I overpaid... Since I’m planning two more outings, I’d like to have a solid baseline for negotiating...

I’m right in the middle of peak season, and everything’s gone up considerably in Thailand. So I don’t want to put my foot in it by pointing out he might’ve overcharged me if that’s not the case... Thanks
Thailand plans electronic arrival card for May 2025
by VoyageForum · 2025-02-06 · 18 replies
Starting May 1, 2025, Thailand plans to introduce a Digital Arrival Card, an electronic arrival form to be completed before departure. Inspired by Cambodia’s system, this formality aims to digitize the collection of traveler information. The exact details (whether it will be mandatory, the form’s content, submission deadline) are still to be confirmed. In 2024, Thailand welcomed over 25 million visitors—a figure on the rise but still below the 2019 record (39 million). Read more...
Cash Advance in Thailand
by Horizont · 2025-02-06 · 8 replies
Hi there. I wanted to check and asked Krungsri Bank if they offered a cash advance at the counter to avoid Thai ATM withdrawal fees. They told me yes, but only up to 200 baht. No, I didn’t forget a zero—it’s not even 6 €... That doesn’t get you very far.

Can anyone confirm this info, or are there banks that offer a larger cash advance? Krungsri is the only bank that does currency exchange in the town where I’m currently staying in Thailand.
Sharing an excursion on 11/2/25 in Phang Nga Bay (Thailand)
by Lionel06AM · 2025-02-05 · 0 replies
Hello, We’re a couple in our 50s with a 12-year-old son, and we’re looking for 2 or 3 other people (ideally another couple with a child close in age to ours, but that’s not essential) to join us on a lovely excursion to Phang Nga Bay on Tuesday, 11/2/2025. There’s still space available, which would help reduce the cost per person.

Here’s the plan: An authentic and traditional small-group tour (max. 6 people) away from the crowds, on a private longtail boat from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We’ll explore numerous caves and lagoons, go for swims, visit James Bond Island, a stilt village, and more.

Price: 4000 THB per person.

Note: We’ll be staying in the southwest part of Phuket province, so it’d be best if you’re not too far away to make logistics easier.

DM me if you’re interested.

How to handle large expenses in Thailand?
by Lagatdu · 2025-02-02 · 10 replies
Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your great tips! Now for expenses: should we pay "big expenses" by card, the rest in cash, or exchange a large sum at the airport (with the risks that involves)? We’re staying for a month, mostly in the countryside rather than the city. Thanks a bunch!
Arrival process in Bangkok

Hi, I’m arriving at BKK—how does exiting the airport work? I’m guessing: Immigration, then baggage claim, and then exit? Thanks!
Taxi transfer between Bangkok airport and Ban Phe then Koh Samet
by Knardo · 2025-01-31 · 7 replies
Hi, we’ll be 2 adults and 2 kids, and I’d like to know if, from Bangkok airport, we can find a taxi—or through the Grab app—to make the trip to Ban Phe, then on to Koh Samet, without getting ripped off. Thanks for your help. Stéphanie
Thai SIM card settings on a French phone
by Huisclos · 2025-01-29 · 16 replies
Hi there! I’m heading to Thailand for two months. So I thought I’d get a Thai SIM card to use Google Maps for getting around cities, mostly. Here’s my question: will this SIM affect my apps? Or will they work the same as with my Orange SIM? Is there any setup I need to do, or can I just pop in the Thai SIM? I’d also like to switch back to my Orange SIM now and then while I’m in Thailand—on the same phone. Will I need to reset the phone, or will it reconnect without any issues? Thanks in advance for your tips! Best, Huiclos
What to do around Bangkok for 2 days?
by Tialou · 2025-01-29 · 3 replies
Hi there, what’s good to do around BKK for 2 days outside of Bangkok? We’re wrapping up our Laos-Cambodia-Thailand trip. We don’t want to stay in BKK anymore (we’ve been there many times over the past 35 years), and someone mentioned Kanchanaburi. Is it worth it? Any other suggestions, keeping in mind we’re not looking for beaches (we already know Thailand’s beaches well). All recommendations are welcome—we’re on a tight schedule as we head back to Thailand on February 3rd and have 2 days to spend outside Bangkok from the 7th to the 9th of February. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! Tialou

Accommodation near the beach in Koh Samui
by Lipsy38 · 2025-01-23 · 23 replies
Hi there, We're thinking of spending 3 weeks in Koh Samui at the start of 2026. Where can we find accommodation close to a pretty beach that's not too touristy but not isolated either, near a small town or village? We've already been to Surin Beach on Phuket Island. We really liked that spot, but we've heard Koh Samui is great too. Thanks for your tips!

Buying a Buddha Statue in Thailand
by Marien33 · 2025-01-15 · 17 replies
Hello, I’m Buddhist by conviction. Even though I don’t practice anymore, I have a Buddhist altar at home that’s becoming increasingly ecumenical—just like in India, it includes Ganesha, the Holy Family, a Virgin of Lourdes, several Shivas, Tara, Avalokiteshvara, and more... I was hoping to buy a beautiful wooden, stone, or metal Buddha statue in Thailand. On top of that, I wanted to have my statue "blessed." But then I heard it’s forbidden to take any statue or representation of Buddha out of the country... What’s the reality in practice? Have any of you brought back a Buddha statue or other representation in your luggage? Did you make the mandatory declaration? Thanks
Lake Chiew Lan in Khao Sok National Park
by Lol64 · 2025-01-15 · 15 replies
Hi, I’m heading to Thailand (first time!) in a week. We planned to be in Khao Sok National Park on February 1st and 2nd. I got a message yesterday saying it wouldn’t be possible to do any activities on Lake Chiew Lan as planned because of “weather conditions.” Despite all my research, I can’t find any info that supports this. Does anyone have recent updates? Is it really impossible to visit the lake, and if so, are there any alternatives? They’re offering a walk to Bang Hua Rad waterfall instead. Any thoughts? We’re really disappointed—the lake looked amazing 😢

Malaysia or Thailand from January 17 to February 1, 2025?
by Babylona · 2025-01-06 · 2 replies
Hi there, Anyone up for a trip to Malaysia or Thailand from January 17 to February 1, 2025? It’ll depend on the flight tickets and how long we want to travel—ideally, two weeks to explore at our own pace. I’m a Parisian in my 40s, non-smoker, love walking, cultural outings, the beach, and trying local food. If any fellow traveler’s interested in planning a trip together, let me know! Looking forward to it, future travel buddy! 😎
