I'm butting in. Not Samui, where I haven't set foot since 1983.

These are photos taken with a smartphone at maximum size. I upload them and it asks if I want to display them in the post. Which I do for each photo

I’m jumping in too to start with New Year’s, since it’s the season:

Then let’s stay up north:

Stop in Bangkok at Wat Pho:

Looks like the south—can you guess the spot?

Not far from this beach:

Even further south:

Gorgeous photos, thank you so much—it’s a real pleasure to look at them! That said, I don’t recognize the beach—Ko Samui?

Koh Samui indeed—about the name of the beach, I don’t want to spoil the fun of searching and finding it yourself.

enjoy your meal! 😉

so, let's think😉, maybe Lamai?

Indeed, Lamai in 1976

Were you in Koh Samui in '76?

if you have any other photos of Ko Samui (or anywhere else in Thailand) from that time and you'd like to share them with us, that would be awesome 😉

Tell me about it! Two huts serving as bungalows back in 1976 (Lamai), then more bungalows followed until the '80s, and then the airport came along... After my first trip in 1976, while working in Thailand, I kept going back now and then until 1985. Bo Phut Beach in 1979:
MR Mrs Regular ·
Thanks for this little trip down memory lane—any photos of Bangkok from back then too?

Hi there,

If you have any other photos of Ko Samui (or elsewhere in Thailand) from that time and you'd like to share them with us, that would be awesome ;)

I have photos of deserted beaches: Kata, Karun, Rawai, and others in Phuket from 1983 with no restaurants, hotels, bars, guesthouses—nothing at all😎. I’ve never been back, but I’ve looked at photos online... things have changed a bit😠. If you’d like, I can show you a few. Thanks for the photos—right now, we’re not traveling much on this forum

It's okay. It's not the French Riviera.
MR Mrs Regular ·
No, it's clear, there's plenty of room🙂

I was there too in May '76 for 15 days in a little bamboo and thatch bungalow on a small hill. I think it was Lamai, not sure. There must have been 4 or 5 of them scattered around. After that, we took a bus to Phuket at Patong where there weren’t any bungalows—just two grocery-restaurant places on the whole beach. One of the few surviving photos from Samui on that trip

Here’s everything I was able to scan: mostly from the far north, where my wife is from, and also from the far south. I worked as a teacher in Pattani back when there weren’t yet any serious security issues.

Hi there, Thanks so much for these beautiful photos. Even during lockdown, I’m still traveling—especially through past photos. Thanks for sharing!
