Hi there. We’re heading to India at the end of December for a month. I planned an itinerary: Delhi, Nawalgarh, Sikar, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Chittaurgarh, Bundi, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and back to Delhi. Our driver told us it’s not possible because there are no roads. He’s suggesting the usual tourist circuit, which we don’t want to do. What do you think of my route? Any tips? Thanks, community!

My partner and I are planning a 2-week trip to Goa from late September to early October. It’s sandwiched between a trip to Nepal (September) and our return home to Thailand. We can’t stay longer, but cutting it shorter wouldn’t be worth the effort or flight costs.

I’ve visited several regions of India in the past (between 2000 and 2020) and spent a total of about 4 months there. My only time in Goa was a few days in Palolem in 2007—I didn’t like it. I found the place almost sordid with all the crowds... not at all the India I love.

But I have an Indian friend with 2 or 3 apartments in a residence in North Goa who keeps telling me to visit. I’m tempted. But where should we go? I don’t want to rent from him because it’s expensive (high-end) and I don’t want to feel too dependent on him either.

After 2 days in Panaji (since it’s near GOI), I’ve booked 5 days in Mandrem, which I’ve heard great things about. This’ll let us explore the Arambol area. I’m hesitant to stay there longer—if we don’t like it or get bored after a few days, spending the full 2 weeks there isn’t ideal! I’m thinking of trying South Goa instead, somewhere between Benaulim and Agonda. The downside? All the rumors about the vibe in different spots—loud techno here, jet skis there, "paunchy English tourists" elsewhere, package tours everywhere... not to mention the expected influx of Russians and/or Israelis (I’ve seen this in other parts of India, Thailand, and Vietnam). Plus, accommodation options are way more limited in the south.

Basically, I’m leaning toward Agonda—relaxed but not too quiet or isolated. But there’s so little availability on sites like Booking and Agoda...

Any recent tips or advice from folks who’ve been to Goa lately? I’d really appreciate it, thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! So, I’m heading to India in October for a few months, and I’d love to get some recent info on SIM cards (Airtel or others). Is it easy to find one (at the airport?), and is the process straightforward—or is it still as complicated as ever with addresses in India, guarantors, OTPs, etc.? Also, are there any plans with international calling to avoid roaming with French SIMs? Basically, anything that might be useful—I’ll be transiting through Delhi and arriving in Chennai. Hello friends, After a 24-day panchakarma treatment in Kerala, I’m planning to extend my stay for about ten days with a driver and hotels included, plus a few excursions. This would be from February 11th to the 21st. If someone would like to join me on this trip, it’d be more fun to share our impressions. If not, I’ll go solo. Backwaters, Ooty, Periyar—I’m finalizing the itinerary, especially the last few days. I’ll be coming from Tahiti and returning there. I’m 74 years old, and this will be a pretty relaxed trip. Hi, I'm planning (in February 2026) a two-week trip to Mumbai and the surrounding area, and I'm wondering if it's possible to include a beach stay (very close to Mumbai), but not Goa or Kerala.

I’m heading to Kerala in December. I’ve been searching without luck for air-conditioned buses, minivans—basically anything that’s not a bus without AC or windows, since my route from Cochin to Munnar is gonna be a long one and I don’t wanna struggle.

I checked around, and it’s crazy—you can’t find the name of a single private company, just overpriced transfers!

From what I can tell, it seems like there’s nothing but local buses… yet I went to Sri Lanka two years ago and there were plenty of options.

Friday, April 18 Night in Guwahati Before leaving the guesthouse, I drop off a small bag that I’ll pick up when I return. I take a tuk-tuk at 7:40 AM to get to the sumo departure point for Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. My bag is loaded onto the roof, my seat is assigned, and we have to wait for the car to fill up.



While waiting, I watch the street come to life. I have fun photographing the different modes of transport passing by.









Time passes faster when you’re occupied. We leave at 8:20 AM, and the driver does door-to-door service along the way. We make our first stop for 25 minutes at 9:10 AM, then another for breakfast at 10:10 AM. The scenery is very different from Assam and Nagaland. We drive alongside a pine forest and a large lake. There are beautiful viewpoints, but the driver isn’t stopping for sightseeing, so I have to settle for looking through the car windows.

We finally arrive in Shillong at 11:45 AM. The driver stops in the middle of nowhere, so I have to walk up the street to find a taxi. I flag one down, and he agrees to take me to my new guesthouse, the Rockski Boutique Bed & Breakfast. No sooner do I arrive than a storm with a heavy downpour welcomes me. When I arrived in Guwahati at the end of October, I’d booked a guide with a car for this week. There’s no public transport to get from village to village, so I had to take a car to visit. The tourism manager, Sachin, sent me a message to let me know that the driver, Welbis, will pick me up tomorrow morning at 8 AM. The temperature is much cooler here—only 19°C. At 2:30 PM, the rain stops, and I take the opportunity to explore the city. I start with the cathedral. Today is Good Friday, so I’m going to see how it’s celebrated here. Meghalaya is a Catholic state. The cathedral isn’t far from the guesthouse—it’s huge and all blue.



I arrive during mass, and it’s impossible to enter—the faithful are numerous outside in the parking lot. Giant screens broadcast the ceremony.

Hi there, Who’s going to be in Ladakh this summer solo and up for a north-south trek in Zanskar? I’m planning an off-trail route… the kind of path where, like last year, I ran into a bear. Pretty rare, let me tell ya!!! Option: a guide and one or two mules to travel light and support the locals, or go self-sufficient—we’ll see. I’ve got a contact, so I can sort this out! No agency, just a direct arrangement with a local from Kanji, a remote hamlet. Open to discussion.

We’re a couple in our 70s based in Canada (Montreal), and we’re planning a 3-week trip to India in February 2025.

We’re looking for a moderate pace, with comfortable but authentic and immersive accommodations, and good service.

Ideally:

Northern India (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ranthambore) Southern India (Kerala): Cochin, backwaters (cruise), Munnar

Charming or traditional lodgings (haveli, guesthouse, small hotels), comfortable without being luxurious.

Travel by train where possible, and with a private driver for the rest, plus likely a domestic flight.

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a woman to share my room during a pancha karma retreat in Cochin, Kerala. I’ll be starting on 19/01 for a solid three weeks—flexible though. Longer or shorter for whoever joins me. 95 € per person. Daily includes: room, medical consultations, two massages, yoga, cooking classes, and three meals. It’s a package deal at a small center. Looking forward to it! I’m going even if I’m alone—I’ve already booked the room.

I'm planning a return trip to India next year, and this time I want to check out what's nice on the way up to Manali. Since the bus rides are really long coming from the plains (Chandigarh or even Delhi), I'm looking for a place to stop along the way (my partner and I). I’ve spotted Kullu, about an hour from Manali, but no matter how much I study the map, I can’t tell if there’s an actual town there. We really don’t want to end up in some isolated hotel that’s only convenient for people traveling with their own transport—definitely not our style. We prefer to drop our bags in a room, freshen up a bit, then wander around streets or alleys with at least a little life.

So, I’m wondering if we’d be better off just skipping Kullu altogether.

What do you think, folks who’ve been there before?

Before I begin, I’d like to thank Michèle Buisson and her "Misha’s travel journals," which really helped me plan this trip. It’s tough to find information about this part of India, which is quite different from the "more traditional India." I’m so grateful to her for introducing me to a family who hosted me for 4 nights and 3 days. I can’t wait to return the favor and welcome you all to my place in early July!

Thursday, March 20th. The alarm goes off super early, but I’m already awake—I was too worried I’d sleep through it. I leave the house at 4:00 AM. The rain has stopped, and at this hour, there aren’t many trucks on the road. I arrive at Barcelona Airport easily by 6:20 AM, let the valet know I’m there, and he quickly picks up my car. This time, I’m flying with Etihad Airways again. I booked the ticket during my trip to Cambodia: Barcelona/Kolkata, Delhi/Barcelona for 567 €. At that price, I didn’t hesitate for long—I knew I had to take it. And I’m glad I did because, by the time I returned, the price had gone up to 700 €. I can already hear the reactions: "Wow, how’d you get a ticket for that price? What site did you use? You’re amazing, MarieJo!" One thing’s for sure—I’m really happy with this deal. The flights from Barcelona to Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi to Kolkata go smoothly, and we arrive on time at 2:55 AM. There aren’t many people at immigration, so I get through quickly. My luggage isn’t on the carousel yet. After collecting my bag, I check in for my next flight with IndiGo, a 5:40 AM flight to Guwahati, arriving at 7:00 AM. I’m starting to feel pretty tired, so I take a taxi from the airport to Gruham Sojourn Homestay. The house is upstairs, and the neighborhood seems quiet, with restaurants lining the street. The room won’t be ready until 10:00 AM, so I rest on the bench in the meantime. Once in the room, I take a shower—it really helps me feel refreshed. I need to exchange some euros, so I look up a nearby exchange bureau on Google and head out to find it. I locate it easily, and the staff are super friendly. I get a great rate (1 € = 90 INR). I wander around the neighborhood. The train station isn’t far, and small markets line the streets. I head back to my area, walking along the main avenue. About 500 meters from my street, I discover a museum. The visit is fascinating—I see the famous Majuli masks, among other things.



I’m not far from the Brahmaputra River, and the temptation to visit is too strong to resist. I’d hoped to find a promenade along the river, but that doesn’t exist here. I walk back calmly and notice several restaurants in my street. On the doorstep of my accommodation, I spot a pastry shop with cakes that look more like the ones we have in France than the typical ones here in India. A visit is a must, and I’m not disappointed!



Tonight, I’m dining at a restaurant in the street. The menu is a bit disappointing—burgers, pizzas, pasta—nothing very Indian. So, I’ll go with tomato pasta.

I have a question about organizing my entry into India.

I have a flight from Paris to Delhi, then Delhi to Leh. Both flights are part of the same booking with Air India, so they handle baggage transfer. I have a 20-hour layover in Delhi and I’d like to leave the airport to sleep at a hotel. Is that possible?

Also, for the e-visa, Leh airport isn’t available as an entry point. I was planning to list Delhi as my entry point and go through immigration there. But since I’ve been to India before, I remember that re-entering the airport can be tricky... Plus, I’ll be "leaving" my luggage behind during that time. I’m not sure if that’s okay.

Does this seem doable to you?

I’ve been to India twice before, but I’ve never been in this situation!

I’m heading to India and Nepal from September 6th to October 28th. I’ll arrive in Delhi and plan to stay there for 2 to 3 days to soak it all in before moving on. I’ve been traveling to India for 21 years and have visited 60% of the country. I’d love to share part of the journey with you—it’s way more fun with two or three people!

I’m considering entering Nepal overland (I’ve done it before, and it’s a great experience). Then, I’ll be trekking in Annapurna National Park for the third time! So, it’s open for pure bliss!
