We’re heading to Quebec in just over a week to meet up with our son, a young adult on a Working Holiday Visa who’s been there for nearly a year 🙂🙂🙂 and I still have a few questions:

1) We’re starting with 3 nights near Shawinigan (Lac à la Tortue). The day after we arrive, we’ll have a relaxed day with one or two activities (sugar shack in St-Mathieu-du-Parc? A seaplane ride?). Any other suggestions? (Besides Parc de la Mauricie, which we’ll visit the next day.)

2) Then, we’ll head to Quebec City via the Chemin du Roy, where we’ll spend 3 nights, followed by a scenic drive to La Malbaie. We’ll be staying in St-Aimé-des-Lacs near Hautes-Gorges de la Malbaie National Park for another 3 nights. One day will be dedicated to hiking in the park—likely the Acropole des Draveurs for our son, and the Riverain trail plus two shorter walks for my husband and me, since he can’t use hiking poles. So, I’m unsure about the second day: should we go back to the park for the cruise, or do something else nearby? Any suggestions?

3) After St-Aimé-des-Lacs, we’ll spend 3 nights in Tadoussac. We’ll definitely stop at Port-au-Persil, but since the drive isn’t too long, we’ll arrive pretty quickly (I think you say "rendu" here 😉). I was thinking of exploring Tadoussac that day, doing the Pointe de l’Islet trail, the Estuary trail, and the Dunes lookout. The second day, we’d head toward Les Bergeronnes and Les Escoumins to visit the interpretation center and take a Zodiac cruise. I was considering Neptune because they offer covered boats. Any other options? And on the third day, we’d go to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord via the Saguenay Fjord National Park’s Baie Sainte-Marguerite sector to hike part of the "Le Fjord" trail from the Beluga Observation Center. I’m aware this trail requires a park access fee. However, I just realized that the trails we planned for the first day (Estuary and Pointe de l’Islet) are also part of the Tadoussac sector of the park. Do we need to pay the access fee (10.10 CAD) for these two short trails? If so, it might make sense to do them on the third day. In that case, can we pay the fee in Tadoussac, then head to the Baie Sainte-Marguerite sector and use the same ticket?

I'm looking for hikers to walk the Saint-Guilhem Way in spring 2026 from May 17th to 30th and form a small group of 4 to 5 people.

Full route of the Saint-Guilhem Way starting from Aumont-Aubrac to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, passing through the Tarn and Jonte gorges (so taking the variant via Le Rozier).

Daily stages of 17 to 28 km depending on difficulty, places to visit, and accommodations. Around 260 km over 12 days of hiking and about 6 to 7 hours of walking per day.

Duration: 14 days (12 days of hiking + 1 arrival day / 1 departure day). No performance goals—just taking the time to see, discover, and enjoy the scenery.

Here’s the recap of a little week we spent as a couple in Saint Petersburg in early May 2019, just before the *annus horribilis* of Covid. Since then, there’s also been the war in Ukraine, which has made things quite complicated, but tourist stays in Russia are still possible (see the discussion thread for the post-2022 situation). Looking back, early May was a bit too soon in the season—the trees were just starting to bud, and the wind was pretty chilly. It’s better to go at the end of May to enjoy the gardens.

Below is our 5-day itinerary. I’d brought along the inevitable Lonely Planet and the Blue Guide to Saint Petersburg, just to get a basic understanding of the architecture of the buildings I’d be admiring. I’d prepared two complementary routes on G**gle Maps in advance to cover the essentials of the city center in two days. That left the other days completely free for the big highlights: the Hermitage Museum and Peterhof Palace. We tried to adapt based on the weather, visiting Peterhof and its gardens on what was *supposed* to be the nicest day. We’d saved the Hermitage for a day when the weather was really bad, but in the end, we had more or less the same weather every day (sunny but windy and chilly).

Itinerary:

Day 1: City center north of Nevsky Prospect, up to the fortress (Route 1 on the map) Day 2: Peterhof Day 3: City center south of Nevsky Prospect up to Mariinsky (Route 2) Day 4: Canal boat tour during the day + nighttime boat ride on the Neva Day 5: Hermitage

Evening activities:

On the 3rd day, we saw an opera at the Mariinsky I, On the 4th day, we saw a ballet at the Mariinsky II, then headed back to the embankments at half past midnight for a nighttime cruise on the Neva—magical!

Hi, I’m reaching out to those familiar with British Columbia 😉 My son is on a Working Holiday Visa in Canada and is currently in Calgary. He’s found a great job in Quesnel, in the northern part of the province, starting in March. It seems like it’s a bit in the middle of nowhere, especially since he doesn’t have a car. Could you advise on the quickest way to get from Calgary to Saint-Georges, for example (I think it’s tough to go further by public transport)? Thanks for your help. Claire

Is it easy to disembark from the MSC Virtuosa and do an independent excursion on our own? Is the ship docked at the pier in the various ports like Pointe-à-Pitre, Antigua, St Kitts, Saint Martin, and the British Virgin Islands (Tortola)? Thanks for your feedback! Danielle

Cruise on the MSC Virtuosa with stopovers in Pointe-à-Pitre, Antigua, St Kitts, Philipsburg, and Tortola from March 8 to 15, 2025. Is it better to book MSC’s excursions, or are there easy ways to explore on our own in some ports?

Bonjour! j'envisage de rejoindre St Paul de Vence depuis Grenoble. les itinéraires varient selon la difficulté et les vélos. Je voudrais relier mon but en 8 jours avec une moyenne de 60 km max par jour vu le dénivelé. J 'ai vu qu'il y a une piste en cours d’aménagement: V64 mais elle n'a pas bonne presse🙂 j'ai un bon vélo de rando mais un peu lourd; je pense alterner bivouac et gites . Avez- vous des conseils; étapes et bons plans?merci NAT😏

Je pense partir faire une partie du chemin de Saint Guilhem le Désert avec ma fille de 14 ans et demi cet été. Nous démarrerions de Le Rozier. Je l'ai déjà fait il y a quelques années seule. Il ne m'a pas semblé "dangereux"... J'avais fais très attention aux chaussures, à l'hydratation, à l'aspivenin, à une petite trousse pharmacie ... Qu'en pensez-vous ? Dois-je avoir peur des patous ? (j'en avais pas croisé du tout), des incendies dans l'Hérault ? de n'être "qu'à deux" ?

Bonjour, j'ai un billet d'avion Aeroflot le 16 juillet pour Saint Petersbourg. Les frontières de la Russie sont fermées et les vols Aéroflot Paris Saint Petersbourg sont stoppés. Quelqu'un a-t-il des informations sur un éventuel calendrier de réouverture des frontières comme des vols Aéroflots? Je sais que les informations arrivent au compte goutte et souvent tardivement mais je serai preneur y compris d'une confirmation que ce projet à coup sûr "tombe à l'eau" si des dates de relance des vols par Aeroflot étaient par exemple déjà connues car dans ce cas je voudrais prévoir un plan B mais là je crains de perdre le coût de mon billet d'avion si les vols reprennent! Cherchant un plan B pour randonner cet été je commence à m'intéresser à une boucle Le Puy - St Guilhem le Désert - St Gilles du Gard - Le Puy en empruntant pour commencer le chemin de St-Guilhem qui ne serait balisé qu'en direction du Sud, puis le GR 653 et enfin le GR700 pour remonter jusqu'au Puy en Velay.

En théorie les GR 653 et GR 700 devraient avoir un balisage permettant de les suivre dans les deux sens.

Qu'en est-il du balisage sur ces chemins? Est-il suffisamment correct pour qu'on puisse s'y passer de cartes?

Quid de l'hébergement? Trouve-t-on suffisamment de gîtes d'étape sur ces 3 chemins pour pouvoir s'abstenir de prendre une tente?

Nous souhaiterions partir en ce futur mois de juillet (si tout va bien) et de préparer ce voyage va m'aider a supporter le confinement.

Le but est de partir en avion pour un des pays baltes, de les faire tous les trois (LITUANIE, LETTONIE, ESTONIE) et ensuite prendre le ferry à TALLINN pour HELSINKI et rejoindre le train pour ST PETERSBOURG pour arriver à la gare de Finlande ....

Des conseils, des suggestions, afin de ne rien laisser au hasard.

Et au retour peut-être revenir par MOSCOU et KIEV ou bien MINSK et VARSOVIE ....

J ai du mal à choisir différents lieux pour 3,4 nuits car la région me semble magnifique, donc est ce envisageable de trouver le jour même ? Dans certain pays c est possible, mais au Québec ? bonjour nous envisageons de faire le tour du lac saint jean en vélo cet été : - quel sens nous conseillez vous : sens horaire ou anti horaire ? y a t'il du vent qui souffle dans un sens ou dans l'autre (matin / soir ?) - j'ai vu que certaines portions se font au bord de la route 169 : savez vous s'il y a beaucoup de km ? beaucoup de tronçon ? y a t'il beaucoup de circulation (camions) en aout ?

Je vais faire la croisière Moscou- St Petersbourg en mai prochain et sur 3 jours de visite à St Petersbourg il y a 2 après-midi en temps libre. J'aimerais savoir si des options de visite sont proposées lors du voyage, où si il faut faire des recherches sur les lieux à visiter par soi même.
