CFC Cruise: Is the Sandnes/Stavanger stop still planned?
Hi everyone,
From March 31 to April 10, I took the Viking Lands cruise with CFC.
Out of curiosity, I checked the Renaissance’s route yesterday and noticed it didn’t make the Sandnes/Stavanger stop that we had.
Maybe the itinerary was planned that way?
Best regards,
Where to exchange money in Norway?
Hi fellow travelers.
I’m planning a trip to the Norwegian fjords soon, and of course, I’ll need to exchange my euros for Norwegian kroner since the currency isn’t the same as in France.
I know you can exchange money at tourist offices or some banks.
Honestly, I’m writing this because it’s my first time traveling to a country that doesn’t use the euro, and I’m wondering how the process works.
Do I need to take care of any administrative steps before heading there, or have special documents on hand to exchange money once I arrive? Do I have to have cash for this?
Or can I just walk into a bank like nothing’s up and exchange money using my bank details, employment contract, etc.?
Anyway, I just wanted to get some details on how it all works and what I’ll need to do to make sure everything goes smoothly and without any issues—I have no idea how this works and don’t want any bad surprises.
Looking forward to your replies! 😉

What ceremony takes place at Oslo City Hall on April 6th?
Hi everyone,
I just got back from a little cruise that took me to Oslo, among other places. Pure coincidence had it that on April 6th, the City Hall was open for visits, and I found myself surrounded by Norwegians—men, women, and even very young children—all dressed in traditional outfits. Clearly, there was some kind of special ceremony going on, because they all went upstairs for... something? A woman told me it wasn’t religious (which I suspected), but then what was that moment all about? Thanks—I don’t like being left in the dark! Have a great day, everyone!

Exchanging euros or Swiss francs in Norway and paying in cash
Hi fellow travelers... I'm going on a bike trip, and I'd like to know if I can exchange euros or Swiss francs in Norway... Can I withdraw cash from ATMs? Can I pay in cash at supermarkets or grocery stores?
Thanks, best regards, safe travels...

A wonderful week around Tromsø, Kvaløya, and the Lyngen Alps
Hi everyone,
There haven’t been many recent stories about Norway in winter, and since I had trouble finding info on winter hikes, I thought I’d share a little travel journal.
Back in September 2024, while planning our summer 2025 trip to Norway, I joined some Facebook groups dedicated to travel in Scandinavia and started reading travel blogs. Since winter trips were being planned at the time, I came across posts with stunning photos of northern Norway in winter. I’d always pictured monotonous landscapes of pine forests and frozen lakes, so I was pleasantly surprised to see fjords, mountain ranges, and charming colorful cabins—just like in the Lofoten Islands. Turns out, the vast pine forests are more typical of Finnish Lapland. Norway, north of the Arctic Circle, is actually much more diverse. That was all it took to suggest this destination to my three guys for our winter vacation. After some research, early March seemed ideal—good weather, long enough daylight, and great chances for northern lights. A direct flight from Paris to Tromsø sealed the deal. The only downside? The cost of cars, accommodations, and activities nearly made us back out! Everything except flights is really expensive.
Since our oldest son had an important school deadline in June, he decided to skip the trip, so we ended up going as a trio. We took a Transavia round-trip flight from Orly to Tromsø for an amazing trip from March 1st to 8th.

Norway: Day cruise on the Sognefjord (to Balestrand-Fjærland)
Hi there,
We’re heading to Norway in May for a self-drive trip around the Bergen area, and we’d love to do a few-hour cruise on the Sognefjord—especially on the day we’ll be near Balestrand-Fjærland. I can’t find any reliable info (the *Routard* guide doesn’t say much except that it’s expensive!). Any ideas? Where should I look or ask? Do we need to book in advance?...
Thanks for any tips!
Where to wild camp in the Lofoten Islands?
Hi there, I read your summary of your trip around the Lofoten Islands and I’m interested in the spots where you slept in a tent, but I can’t open your document—would it be possible for you to send it to me?

Drink and excursion prices on the Preziosa in Norway
Hi there,
I’ve put a deposit down for the Norwegian fjords cruise on the Preziosa in August 2025. I didn’t go for the drinks package at 1300 € for two for fifteen days—it seems a bit steep, especially since I don’t drink wine, just a few cocktails, and no fizzy drinks like Coke or Fanta.
Could anyone share the drink price list on the ship, please?
Also, I couldn’t find the prices for the excursions on this cruise, just the descriptions.
Would anyone have the prices they could share with me?
Thanks so much!
Have a great day.

Arctic Route (E6) in Norway
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Norway for June 2026 and have some questions about the Arctic Route (E6) from Narvik to Alta: - Starting from Narvik, how far along this route is it worth going? - Are the landscapes really more stunning as you get closer to Alta? - How many days is reasonable for a round trip? - Side question: Can anyone recommend a car rental company in Narvik?
We’ve never been this far north before—this will be our first trip near the Arctic Circle.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can share advice or general tips about this region!

Trip to Norway in August 2025
Hi there,
I found a yoga retreat with hiking... in the middle of nature in Norway from August 16th to 22nd. I’m looking for a travel buddy—either to join the retreat and a little trip in Norway or just to share accommodations and good times...
For introductions, I’m Océane, from Rennes, and I’m 38.
MSC Norway Cruise: Choosing Excursions
Hello,
I’m going on an MSC Norway cruise in May, and I’m a bit lost when it comes to choosing excursions 😅
Here’s my itinerary: Hamburg, Ålesund, Honningsvåg, Tromsø, Trondheim, Molde Fjord, Bergen, Hamburg.
I’m looking for advice and opinions: must-see places, and is it possible to organize excursions independently from the cruise line (there are 4 of us)?
All your experiences would be super helpful 😊
Thanks in advance

Lofoten or Faroe Islands in October?
Hi there,
I’m posting this because I can’t decide.
We’d like to travel in mid-October to explore a Nordic destination.
We’ll have 6 full days on-site. I’m torn between the Faroe Islands and Lofoten... What about the weather and the cost of accommodation?
My budget is a maximum of 120 € per night. I don’t want to rush but take the time to explore just one part of these islands and avoid running around too much.
The Faroe Islands might be pricier and less lively.
Lofoten requires more flight connections...
In terms of landscapes and 6-day hikes, could you share your feedback?
My request is a bit vague.
Thanks for reading!

Choosing between two MSC cruises to Norway
Hi there,
Is it possible to help me choose between two MSC cruises to Norway?
The first one: departs from Copenhagen, then Hellesylt, Nordfjordeid, Flåm, and finally Kiel.
The second one: departs from Warnemünde, then Sandnes, Bergen, Kristiansand, and finally Hamburg.
Note that the price difference is 150 €, with the first one being more expensive.
Cheers,
Snowshoeing on Senja Island in Norwegian Lapland in winter
Hi there,
My wife and I are heading to Norwegian Lapland for a week soon. We arrive in Tromsø on January 9th and plan to visit Senja Island. We’d love to go snowshoeing there and would appreciate some tips:
1. Is it possible to go snowshoeing without a guide this time of year on Senja Island? Are there well-marked trails? If not, could anyone recommend some good local guides?
2. We’d also love recommendations for great snowshoeing routes on the island if possible.
3. Is 5 days in Dovær in the northern part of the island too long at this time of year?
4. Renting snowshoeing gear in Norway is super expensive—does anyone know a good place to rent between Tromsø and Senja Island?
Thanks!
Tips for Tromsø: excursions and accommodation
Hi there,
I’m heading to Tromsø for a few days in March.
I’d love to do a northern lights tour, go on a trip to see orcas, and learn more about Sami culture.
Any excursions you’d recommend?
I’m also looking for info on local accommodation—Airbnb’s an option, but if you’ve got other suggestions, I’m all ears!
Thanks for your tips! :)

A day driving a husky sled in the Lyngen Alps, Norway
Hi there,
For anyone interested in dog sledding towards Tromsø, we spent a day on a private tour with a local musher. It was a really small operation—just him and his dogs :)
Here’s the link to my post about the day we loved:
