Electronic Travel Authorization for England
by Pgst59 · 2026-04-27 · 5 replies
Hi,

There are rumors going around about the ETA: it must absolutely be on your smartphone in the "ETA" app.

Paper documents might not be accepted. Is this real or just a hoax? Thanks, I’m leaving in 3 weeks. My passport is good to go and my ETA is still valid for a year, but I only printed the email I received. Thanks everyone.
CFC Highland and Scotland on April 16th
by Nataly03 · 2026-03-27 · 33 replies
Hi there, So, I booked this cruise... I know CFC gets a lot of criticism— - And that it’s not really like the ships I usually take. But the destination really interested me... So, I’m giving it a try... I’m going in with an open mind, thinking I got a good deal, so I’m not expecting the same experience as when I travel with Yacht Club or The Haven. We’ll see... soon!

What itinerary tips for Lewis and Harris in summer with hiking?
by Ourson71 · 2026-03-03 · 1 reply
Hi everyone! We’re planning a 15-day road trip to Scotland this summer, specifically to explore and hike on Lewis and Harris—places we’ve never been before. We’ve visited other islands on previous road trips in Scotland (we usually go in April for a week). This would be our first time in Scotland in the summer and for 15 days. We’re looking at late August to early September.

I’m currently drafting the itinerary. We’d be crossing from Ullapool and were thinking of spending 3 nights on Harris and 4 nights on Lewis.

Does that sound balanced to you? Is it better to keep the same accommodation on Harris and the same on Lewis to explore the area? I’d love to hear about any past experiences you’ve had on these islands. Thanks!
ETA visa processing time for Great Britain
by Christoffff · 2026-02-28 · 3 replies
Hi,

I applied for a visa to go to Great Britain soon (May, Manchester) via the official app on February 22.

I haven’t received any response yet... normally the processing time is 3 days... and there’s no way to contact them (unless you pay).

Has anyone already applied through this app? If so, how long did it take to get a response?

Thanks
Need advice for accommodation in London
by Marsyork · 2026-01-22 · 3 replies
Hi there, it’s been a long time since I last went to London. I’d love to spend a week there in July with my daughter and my niece (both young adults).

Of course, I’m looking for great tips on accommodation, and I’m wondering about renting an apartment. It seems like a better deal to save on restaurants (with the option of having a few meals at home... but is that really the case? I’m not sure about the cost of a meal in a modest restaurant, the pound exchange rate, or grocery prices...). Otherwise, I’d like to stay in accommodation (hotel or apartment) near a tube station and in Zone 1.

If you have any great tips, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks,

Marsyork
Do you know any local agencies for a trip to Scotland?
by Picander · 2025-11-29 · 1 reply
We’d like to explore Scotland on an organized tour, preferably in a small group, since we can’t drive on the left. Which agencies would you recommend, whether they’re based in France or Scotland? Thanks! P.Cander
Scotland - Skye Trail and a little extra
by Calisson94 · 2025-11-15 · 20 replies
After our amazing experience in the Lofoten Islands in summer 2023, I suggested to Jean Marie another trek I’d been wanting to do for a long time: the Skye Trail in Scotland.

A few photos of this stunning island and he was sold and ready to go.

The route is available on the excellent WalkHighlands site HERE (there’s also a Cicerone guide on the subject). And since I thought it was a shame it avoided the Black Cuillins, I added a 3-day detour in that area.

We took advantage of the May bank holidays in 2024, partly to avoid the peak tourist season and also the midge period—because for some reason, mosquitoes love me 😠!!

27/04 – Day 1 – Transfer to Skye and start of the trek: Rubha Hunish - Flodigarry 28/04 – Day 2 – Flodigarry – just before the Old Man of Storr 29/04 – Day 3 – Old Man of Storr – Portree, then bus to Sligachan 30/04 - Day 4 - Sligachan - Glenbrittle campsite via the Fairy Pools 01/05 – Day 5 – Round trip to Sgùrr na Banachdich from Glenbrittle campsite 02/05 – Day 6 – Round trip to Coire Lagan and walk on the Rubh an Dùnain peninsula 03/05 – Day 7 – Return (hitchhiking) to Sligachan campsite and hike in the Red Cuillins 04/05 – Day 8 – Resuming the Skye Trail – Sligachan – Elgol 05/05 – Day 9 – Elgol – Somewhere on the climb to Bla Bheinn 06/05 – Day 10 – Somewhere on the climb to Bla Bheinn - Broadford 07/05 – Day 11 – Visit to the Armadale Castle and park 08 & 09/05 – Return to Glasgow, visit the city, and return flight And here’s the summary

Hi there, We’re planning a 10-day trip to Scotland around late December. Is it worth it weather-wise? Has anyone already done this trip during this season? How should we go about renting a car in Edinburgh? And how can we find a bed and breakfast in a castle? Thanks for any tips that could help us out! Daniel

Motorhome or camper van for a Scotland road trip with 3 adults and a 7-year-old?
by Ann13 · 2025-07-11 · 8 replies
Hi there, I’m trying to plan a family week’s holiday in Scotland. I’d like to rent a motorhome or a camper van. My partner has never driven a motorhome and the roads are making me nervous… I’ve seen camper vans, but are they much smaller? There’ll be 3 adults and a 7-year-old. Some rental companies tell me “no problem with motorhomes,” while others say “definitely not if you’ve never driven one.”

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I’ll be staying in bed and breakfasts or hostels. I know Scotland well and speak English.

I plan to hike and visit castles and villages along the way!

Taking out travel insurance after buying transport tickets
by Voyage75016 · 2025-06-09 · 3 replies
Hi there. I’m reaching out to ask for your advice about travel insurance for my trip.

I bought Eurostar tickets back in January, but I forgot to take out travel insurance right away.

I’d like to get multi-risk travel insurance now, but most insurers say you have to sign up within 48 to 72 hours after buying your transport tickets.

Do you know of any insurance that doesn’t have this deadline and lets you sign up even months after buying your tickets?

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Best regards
What to see for a 3-day weekend in Scotland?
by MrlndEcosse · 2025-05-27 · 9 replies
Hi there,

I’m desperately turning to you all for advice—I just can’t seem to organize myself or make efficient city choices for such a short trip.

There are two of us, and we’re heading to Scotland for a few days in July, without a driver’s license. We arrive in Edinburgh (where we’ve already been) on a Friday at noon and need to be in Glasgow by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Between the two, we’d love to catch a glimpse of the Highlands—do you think that’s doable? From Edinburgh, is it easy to get to Inverness, Fort William, or other spots (?) for 2 nights (3 max)? Would you recommend the train or the bus? Which company? Any suggestions for a reasonable little itinerary?

For example, I was thinking of doing Edinburgh → Fort William, and once there, either renting bikes and exploring or taking a round-trip train to Mallaig in the same day, since the route looks stunning.

Alternatively, we could skip the Highlands if there are pretty towns around Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Any tips would be *so* appreciated—thanks a million! !
