I’m planning a trip to the Norwegian fjords soon, and of course, I’ll need to exchange my euros for Norwegian kroner since the currency isn’t the same as in France.

I know you can exchange money at tourist offices or some banks.

Honestly, I’m writing this because it’s my first time traveling to a country that doesn’t use the euro, and I’m wondering how the process works.

Do I need to take care of any administrative steps before heading there, or have special documents on hand to exchange money once I arrive? Do I have to have cash for this?

Or can I just walk into a bank like nothing’s up and exchange money using my bank details, employment contract, etc.?

Anyway, I just wanted to get some details on how it all works and what I’ll need to do to make sure everything goes smoothly and without any issues—I have no idea how this works and don’t want any bad surprises.

Hello, We just spent nearly 3 weeks in Costa Rica and had rented a car from ADOBE RENT-A-CAR. For the occasion, I had provided a document from my bank confirming that my VISA Premier card (gold card) covered—by far—the additional CDW insurance that this rental company strongly recommends. On-site, when it came time to pay the mandatory third-party insurance, my card was declined (luckily, we had another basic debit card that worked without any issues). The reason given by the rental company: my card was invalid or I had a banking problem. The same result and comments occurred at a second ADOBE agency. After contacting my bank and their customer service, they confirmed there was no issue! What’s more, throughout the trip, we used this same card to pay for various purchases (gas, restaurants, attractions, etc.) without any problems... After expressing my dissatisfaction to this rental company on Trustpilot (you can check the site), ADOBE refused to address the issue but admitted that this mandatory insurance is required... In reality, it’s clear that this rental company refuses this card so that tourists will purchase their additional insurance. The travel agency we booked through has requested a meeting with ADOBE for clarification. I’m waiting for their conclusions. Additionally, I noticed on certain sites like tripadvisor.ca or itinego.com/fr/costarica/guide/43/location-voiture-suv-4x4 that this card is no longer accepted...

So, BE CAREFUL: Before leaving, make sure to check with the rental company you’re using to confirm that your card is accepted Always have another bank card as a backup

Hi, I just read an article announcing the launch of a "tagthai easy pay" app that lets tourists pay with their phone, just like Thais do in shops by scanning the merchant’s QR code. Has anyone got more info? Are there any foreign-exchange fees or other charges? Can you top up this account with a simple transfer from our French bank account, or do you have to use cash? 1) In the Faroe Islands, you pay in Danish kroner—that’s clear—and mostly by card. But there are also Faroese kronur, and I’d love to bring some back. Are they available at ATMs? There don’t seem to be any real exchange bureaus in the capital.

2) The Faroe Islands aren’t part of the EU roaming agreement. Local SIM cards are supposedly available everywhere, but does anyone have an idea of prices or an operator to recommend?

From what I gather, transport and hotels will be booked and paid via bank transfer to a local agency. For personal expenses, is it better to bring euros, dollars, or can we still find ATMs along the Silk Road cities to withdraw cash with our bank card?

I’ve booked a room at an all-inclusive in Varadero for January 2025. This will be my 3rd trip to Cuba, the last one was 20 years ago.

The whole tipping and gratuities thing is wearing me out. Even though it’s an all-inclusive package, I think it’d be rude not to leave any tips for the bar staff and the housekeeping team, especially.

Here’s what I’m aiming for: 1. Not feeling stingy (or “feeling cheap” for my fellow Quebecers); 2. Not disrespecting Cubans by offering junk or, on the flip side, going overboard and creating unrealistic expectations for future tourists; 3. And most importantly, not spending the whole week wondering if I’m doing the right thing. I’m going there to relax, not to stress!

I’ve been using a Revolut card for my travels so far, and it’s been working great for me.

But now it has two issues: 1) There are spending limits before fees kick in (1000 euros—easy to hit on a trip abroad) 2) You can’t top it up with a Visa or Mastercard anymore since those networks block those transfers. Now you have to do a bank transfer, which is less convenient. And, debatable, but Revolut now uses its own exchange rate instead of the official one like before. I say "debatable" because when I checked, it’s pretty close to the official rate and the difference is minimal.

So I’m looking for an alternative. Some of you here mention the N26 card. Is it worth it?

I’ve read that Albanian merchants (hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc.) aren’t big fans of card payments and that the euro is widely accepted.

How is it these days? Should I plan to pay only in cash (which feels pretty unusual these days...)?

Also, all ATMs seem to charge a minimum withdrawal fee of 5 €. Which networks are the least expensive? And what’s the maximum amount you can withdraw?

En visitant PORTO je me suis fait verbaliser pour stationnement ( délai dépassé), de retour en France j'ai souhaité payer par virement bancaire et sur l'avis j'ai le site telpark avec un numéro qui quand je le renseigne sur le site ne correspond à rien, et en dessous on me signal que je dois payer via multibanco avec une référence.

Auriez-vous une solution à me proposer afin de régulariser ma situation?

Hello les voyageurs, Je voulais savoir si certaines d'entre vous avaient déjà rencontré des soucis au Belize ? Je ne suis pas du tout de nature méfiante, je voyage souvent sans d'ailleurs faire assez attention. Il ne m'est jamais rien arrivé de négatif en voyage, si ce n'est au Belize. J'étais allée avec ma meilleure amie (depuis le Mexique car nous habitions là-bas). Nous avions une chambre d'hôtel basique. Durant la nuit, un homme (un voleur bien connu de la ville), est entré dans notre chambre et nous a volé toutes nos affaires de valeur. Nous l'avons vu mais au moment où il repartait. C'était trop tard. Ce qui est dingue dans cette histoire, c'est que cet homme avait eu la clef de notre chambre par le responsable de l'hôtel Encore plus dingue, ce sont des enfants qui étaient à c��té de nous sur la plage, qui a renseigné que deux jeunes filles seules séjournaient dans tel endroit... Il vous est déjà arrivé une histoire complètement dingue ? Avez-vous eu des soucis au Belize ou pas du tout ? Je connais pas mal de personnes qui ont eu des problèmes à la frontière (moi aussi, ils ne voulaient pas nous laissé quitter le pays car il y avait une taxe à payer et nous n'avions du coup plus la moindre carte de banque ni centime...). Je vous raconte pas ça pour que vous soyez suspicieux des locaux lors d'un voyage. Simplement, le touriste est la proie facile par excellence (encore plus lorsqu'il s'agit de deux jeunes filles seules). Il faut juste rester sur ses gardes. Après, je ne sais pas trop comment j'aurais pu éviter cette arnaque ci ^^

Après avoir eu une annulation de vol vers NY pendant le COVID, j'ai réservé sur le site Air France il y a un peu plus de un mois un trajet en famille vers les Antilles pour Noël (on espère...). Après avoir choisi les vols, horaires, options (5 personnes), j'arrive pour rentrer les avoirs et là, le prix final change quand même beaucoup et le reste à payer est bien inférieur par rapport au début de la réservation. Copie d'écran dans le doute. recherche sur le site (ristourne supp pour les avoir, famille...) Nous payons avec une carte virtuelle bloquée, comme d'habitude(on peut la présenter sur le téléphone pour vérification au cas ou). Je reçois 5 mails avec les détails, des données pas complètes mais le dernier est complet avec les 5 e -billets.

3 jours plus tard, je suis prélevé de 5 montants n'ayant aucun rapport avec le montant saisi, je passe de 715 à 2100€ sur une carte virtuelle bloquée à 750€ ! Bon, coup de fil à la banque, c'est pas normal voir officiellement pas possible et réclamation sur le site Air France. c'était il y a un mois et cela n'avance pas. Une réponse de Air France disant qu'ils ont fait un seul prélèvement (lequel?), pas de réponse aux autres questions. Et concernant la banque, il ne reconnaisse pas la faille de leur système de carte virtuelle...

Que faire ?

Nous ouvrons un post concernant les carnets de passages en douanes. Le carnet CPD demande une caution 100% de la cote argus si encore coté donc si véhicule récent, cela devient très vite bloquant pour un projet. Nous aimerions donc avoir des avis sur des personnes ayant déjà fait un TDM en passant par l'Asie si seulement le carnet ATA peux faire office de carnet passage en douane ou pas du tout.

Je vais bientôt démarrée un voyage de 2 ans au Canada, ce pays sauvage et j'aimerais beaucoup me rendre au nord du Québec pour observer des animaux polaires, principalement phoques annelés, phoques barbus et phoques du Groenland et loirs polaire serait le sirop d'érable sur la cerise sur le gâteau! Mais j'ai beaucoup de mal à trouver des informations, des prix etc. Est ce que c'est possible sans y laisser tout son comte en banque? Sans être au milieu d'une horde de touristes ? J'aimerais avoir une expérience authentique près des gens qui vivent dans ces régions. Au départ de n'importe où, disponible à partir de septembre/octobre avec un véhicule.

j'avais envisagé le Vietnam mais à partir de juillet les visas touristiques ne depassent pas 1 mois, 3 mois auparavant.

Existe t il des visas touristiques longue durée ou renouvelable facilement sur place , ou des visas dit retraités ? Quelles sont les conditions financieres ?
