Hello! 👋 I’m new to this site and feeling a little desperate. 😢 My boyfriend’s birthday is in 4 days, and I wanted to surprise him with a New Year’s trip to London... except I just found out he’s already been there as a kid. Well, there goes my surprise! 😅 Since we both love Christmas and winter, I’m looking for a destination where we can really feel the holiday magic—with a budget of around 500 € for transport + accommodation for two (yes, I know, I might be asking for a Christmas miracle here 😇). We’ve already been to Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, so I’d love to find something a little more offbeat, not too expensive, and with a beautiful Christmas atmosphere.

Please help me! 🙏 On social media, it’s always the same ultra-touristy cities... I’m sure there are hidden gems I haven’t discovered yet!

March 2nd — Departure by bus from Latour at 6:50 AM. The journey isn’t direct: we pass through Elne then Corneilla. In Perpignan, I switch to a BlablaBus heading to Barcelona’s northern bus station. Before reaching Le Perthus, French police stop us to check IDs. Several people aren’t in order, but after about fifteen minutes, we’re on our way again. We’re checked again at La Jonquera: this time, the wait lasts almost forty-five minutes while police identify those in violation and wait for a vehicle to pick them up. The driver then tries to make up for lost time; we finally arrive at our destination half an hour late.

I quickly head to the Arc de Triomphe metro station, located 200 meters away: you have to cross the bridge along the bus parking lot, then walk through a large garden; the station is on the right before the garden entrance. The trip to the airport isn’t direct: I have to change at Tomasso and take the line to the airport, where I arrive at 1 PM.

At the Emirates counter, I learn my flight was just canceled due to the war in Iran; they offer me another flight for the next day. I have to wait at the airport until 7 PM before being taken to a hotel; the next morning, I’ll take a flight to Vienna (with an 8-hour layover), then an Air India flight to Delhi, and finally a flight to Kolkata. I agree: I don’t know Vienna, so it’ll be an unexpected discovery.

At 7 PM, a small group is taken to the hotel, 35 minutes from the airport, where we’re served a light dinner upon arrival.

March 3rd — A taxi picks me up at 6:30 AM; the flight to Vienna takes off at 9:30 AM and arrives at noon. I’m free until 7 PM; the metro is direct to the city center. The weather is pleasant and not too cold, luckily, since my clothes are light.

When I exit the metro, I spot the St. Stephen’s Cathedral tower in the distance and approach it: the roof, made of glazed tiles, is remarkable.



Entry is free, and the interior, a mix of Gothic and Baroque styles in the center, is stunning.

—a music concert adds an enchanting atmosphere to the visit. I continue my walk at random through the pedestrian streets lined with magnificent buildings: I’m charmed by the city.







Before heading back to the airport, I stop at a lovely tea salon. My flight will eventually leave with a delay.

Wednesday, March 4th — Delhi and a little luggage scare We arrive in Delhi shortly after noon. Immigration is quick, and good news: my bag was checked through from Barcelona to Kolkata. I head to the connecting terminal and arrive half an hour before boarding: the flight goes smoothly. Upon arrival, the luggage comes out quickly… except mine. After filing a report, I’m told my bag is in Delhi—I have to retrieve it before taking another flight. I didn’t know (or had forgotten): with the delays, I wouldn’t have had time to pick it up and make the connection.

I take a taxi to the Ichamati Hotel. The welcome is warm, and the room is clean but very small. Without my bag, I feel a bit lost—I have nothing to change into.

Tonight, I’m dining with Raja and his friends at a beautiful restaurant, an old colonial house turned into a hotel.





We’re happy to see each other and have a comforting evening together.

So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast. I’m particularly interested in details on: - How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations - Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please - Day trains vs. night trains (the latter option lets you explore cities between two legs of the journey) - A rough idea of ticket costs ...

We're a family with two kids aged 7 and 2, planning a trip to Morocco from December 21 to 28, 2026. We're thinking of spending 2 days and 2 nights in Marrakech, then heading out on the third morning to the Erg Chebbi dunes (Merzouga or Khamlia, still deciding), and returning to catch our flight. The plan is to go via Skoura, the Valley of Roses, the Dadès Gorges, Tinghir, to reach the Merzouga dunes. On the way back, we'd stop at Tamnougalt before returning to Marrakech.

A few notes, since traveling with young kids slows everything down: - Ideally, we'd like to travel by shared taxi or bus - I don’t want to stop and sleep in Ouarzazate, as I’ve already visited.

Questions: - Does this seem doable in December (especially the Marrakech-Ouarzazate stretch)? - Which overnight stops would you recommend between Marrakech and Merzouga? We’ll spend 2 nights in two different places, then 2 nights in Merzouga, and 1 night in Tamnougalt. - I’d prefer shared taxis, but can they drop us off a bit farther than city centers (e.g., if our hostel is a few kilometers from Boulmane Dadès, or not in central Merzouga but in Khamlia)? Basically, is it possible to travel a little off the beaten path with shared taxis? - We love family-friendly hostels—if you have any recommendations, we’re all ears!

Several airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and others have almost completely halted their operations.

Whether in the Middle East or Africa, many travelers are stranded—maybe for a long time... A heartfelt thought for them and the struggles this will cause.

Hi, I want to invite a Malagasy friend and I’m surprised to learn there are procedures (that seem complicated) to follow… It would be a short stay (max 3 months). She’s got her passport, I’m paying for the flight ticket, and I read that I need to get an accommodation certificate from my town hall—but what else is required after that? Alright, I’m scaling back the kilometers thanks to the relevance and patience of our Cambodia experts! Here’s yet another hesitation /\ When I arrive early on 01/12 in PP, I have the choice between spending a day in PP (booking a convenience room for half a day and leaving by night bus), sleeping in PP and taking the bus to SR the next morning, or hiring a driver to head back up to PP with a nice little stop and maybe sleeping in Kampong Thom or Kampong Chhnang, then heading to SP on the 13th. Then from the 13th to the 17th or 18th, exploring Angkor. I continue to Kampong Thom and stay for 2 nights (if I didn’t do it on the way there), but I might be templed-out by then. I head to Kampong Cham, where I’ll spend 2 nights—one on the island and one on the mainland. Next, I go to Kampot and Kep: probably 2 nights in Kampot, 2 in Kep, and 1 night on Tonsay Island. First post here to share a quick recap of our west-to-east bike trip along Algeria’s coast in January 2025. It was just the two of us—my partner and I—with French passports and not a word of Arabic. No friends or welcoming hosts in the country.

Under those conditions, we’d strongly advise against going.

Our original plan was to follow the coast from Algiers to Tunis. We ended up cycling from Algiers to Béjaia, then took the train from Béjaia to Annaba (with a stop in Constantine), and finally biked to the border. We were tailed by police the whole way—whether on our bikes, on the train, or even on foot while exploring towns. On top of that, we couldn’t wild camp and were limited to the few state-approved hotels that accept foreigners. Under those circumstances, connecting with locals was especially tough.

With such an omnipresent and intrusive police presence, we’d definitely recommend against this destination for bike touring. A really sad situation that completely cuts you off from the local population...

We’d been warned, we went to check it out, and we weren’t disappointed!

My son would like to marry his girlfriend (married to a Filipino in the Philippines but separated for 14 years), who is from the Philippines... but... what complicates things is that she lives in Switzerland illegally—her visa expired after a divorce from a Swiss national, and she received a deportation order in 2022 but never left. Just to clarify, she’s been working in Switzerland for 10 years and pays Swiss taxes... Recently, she reapplied for a work visa to request residency rights so she could marry my son, but they refused, and she’s already received an order to leave the country... What can we do? - Qu'est - il advenu de vos projets de vacances ? - Avez- vous persévéré et obtenu un remboursement ou un report ? - Faites- vous de nouveaux projets ou avez vous déjà pu tenter, avec réussite, un autre voyage ?

Pour démarrer le sujet, voici ce que nous avons prévu : -- les 2 voyages ( USA et Yucatan ) qui étaient prêts seraient reportés à 1 an, peut-être à 2 : c'est de l'optimisme ... -- le voyage de mai, 3 semaines dans les Pouilles : quasi complètement remboursé ; peut-être reporté au printemps : il est fin prêt aussi ! -- cette année, vacances de 6 nuits à la belge : 3 jours à la Côte et 3 jours dans les Ardennes ; un peu court mais une météo plus qu'agréable ; belle bouffée d'air ... J'espère que vous avez mieux à nous raconter !

Étant membre depuis toujours de la secte des voyageurs avec cuissard, j'ai quelques questions aux membres de la secte des voyageurs sans cuissard, spécialement ceux qui voyagent avec un vélo de route ou assimilé (cintre route placé bas).

Quel type de short ou pantalon utilisez-vous ? Quel sous-vêtement avec ?

Je pose ces questions parce que durant le confinement mon seul sport cycliste a été de revenir du boulot une fois par semaine (et souvent une autre sortie) en faisant des détours pour faire entre 10 et 20 km en restant sous l'heure et presque dans le rayon de 1 km, et que je faisais ça habillé de ville, sans cuissard. Je n'avais pas plus de douleurs qu'avec un cuissard, mais les coutures et plis du pantalon me gênaient, je me sentais inconfortablement serré à un endroit où ce n'est pas agréable, bref pas à l'aise. Ce qui passait pour 20 km ne me semble pas tenable pour 100 ou 150 km.

Mais comme je sais que certains voyagent sans cuissard, une idée me trotte dans l'esprit, et pensant qu'il n'y a que les imbeciles qui ne changent jamais d'avis, je me demande depuis si un petit voyage sans cuissard serait possible. Comme je sais que certains ici voyagent ainsi, j'aimerais donc avoir leur avis sur le type de vêtements qui évitent à la fois d'avoir un cuissard et de ressentir une gêne, serrement, coutures, plis, etc.

Je précise que je suis un homme, que je voyage sur un vélo de route avec une selle longue et étroite permettant le changement de position, placée environ 10 cm plus haut que le haut du cintre, qu'avoir les mains au bas du cintre durant des km ne me dérange pas, j'y suis habitué, et que je n'ai jamais de douleurs dues à la selle, contact et position. Bref que je ne changerai pas de selle ni de position.

Bonjour, Je suis actuellement étudiante et j'ai 22 ans, j'ai un petit-ami Philippin que j'ai rencontré à Séoul, en Corée du Sud, qui est lui-même étudiant universitaire là-bas. En ce moment je suis encore à Séoul jusqu'en Septembre. Au début je me disais que ce n'était qu'une amourette, mais lorsque l'on s'aperçoit à quel point la personne nous est devenue importante et en or, on commence à vouloir rester en couple avec elle même à des milliers de kilomètres... Alors nous allons rester ensemble et j'aimerais que mon amour vienne en France pour les vacances d'hiver 2020. Le but serait qu'il reste de fin décembre à mi-février. Cependant sa situation est vraiment très particulière... D'abord car il est étudiant universitaire à Séoul. Donc il est déjà expatrié de son pays pour encore quelques années... Ensuite, il n'a pas beaucoup d'argent, je ne dis pas qu'il soit pauvre, il a un compte bancaire, il a une bourse, quelques boulots pour subventionné ses besoins et il est en mesure de payer son billet d'avion pour venir jusqu'en France. Mais j'ai entendu dire sur plusieurs forums qu'il est très difficile pour un Philippin de venir en France même si il s'agit de courte durée. Je sais qu'il existe un visa courte-durée de maximum 90 jours pour venir en France. Je me demandais si avec ses caractèristique mon copain pourrait obtenir ce visa afin de découvrir ma culture et notre patrimoine. J'ajouterai qu'il ne sera pas possible à mon ami de retourner aux Philippines juste pour aller à l'ambassade faire sa demande de visa, est-il possible pour lui d'envoyer un de ses proches ou de faire sa demande via-courrier? Je trouve cela tellement problèmatique et injuste de la part des gouvernements européens de rendre si compliquer le fait de juste voyager pour les Philippins... Cela me rend malheureuse car nous voulons vraiment rester ensemble et partager nos cultures... Quelqu'un pourrait-il donc me renseigner sur les différents moyens qu'il existe pour qu'il obtienne un visa pour les vacances?

Je m'appelle Sasha et Je suis étudiante étrangère, maintenant j'ai décidée d'acheter un vélo, mais à cause de budget limité je ne peux pas acheter le nouveau, donc j'ai pris la décision d'acheter un vélo d'occasion.

Sur Leboncoin j'ai trouvée beaucoup de proposition, et j'ai choisi deux modelés (correspondant au budget 60-80 euros). Le premier ce vélo Mercier Poulidor (photo ci-jointe), le propriétaire a acheté ce vélo une dizaine d'ânes, et il me dit que le vélo pas beaucoup utilise (fille a roulé dessus un peu avant de partir étudier), le vélo a été stocké dans un garage dans un endroit frais et sec, mais il est possible que personne ne l'ait roulé longtemps, donc a besoin d'entretien, lubrifie tous les nœuds? ou pas nécessaire si stocké dans un espace clos et sec et peu utilisé?

Le deuxième, c'est le vélo b'twin original 5 de Décathlon, il y a beaucoup proposition pour ce modèle. J'ai compris que ce deux vélo ont presque la même prix comme nouveau.

Je cherche un vélo pour me promener dans la zone du parc autour de la ville, jusqu'à 50-70 kilomètres à la fois, le week-end, peut-être jusqu'à 7 kilomètres par jour en semaine.

Est-ce que vous pouvez me conseiller s'il vous plaît lequel de ce deux modèle il faut acheter? ou il faut éviter ces vélos du tout?.

AÏt Benhaddou , découvert en 202015 ...2 ou 3 auberges à l'époque ! j'étais à la Baraka ! à l'entrée du village ! c'était tellement cool à cette époque ! je faisais la cuisine avec Mohamed le cuisinier , dans la cuisine de l'auberge !

A gauche , Brahim Bolkaid qui est le patron de l'auberge actuelle " maison d'hôtes panoramic " en bas à droite le cuisinier ! j'en ai passer des heures dans la cuisine ! à cette période , il y avait des énormes bus d'Allemands , qui arrivaient avec toute leur nourriture ! ils consommaient très peu ! mais on leur servaient surtout des salades fraiches , des boisons ... ils restaient 3 heures : boissons , pipi , visite du ksar et hop ils repartaient !

" Revenir d'Asie pose des problèmes très précis. En Suisse, retour d'Inde et du Japon, je me suis longtemps senti mal à l'aise. Les magasins, les rues m'inspiraient une répulsion irraisonnée. Noël qui approchait, la foule des acheteurs, les farces tartinées de santé, le bruit des sous, la couperose me donnaient le cafard. Le seul endroit où je respirais, où je croisais de vrais regards c'était -- tenez-vous bien -- l'hôpital. Pourtant, c'était mon pays que je m'étais réjoui de revoir, pourtant on m'avait partout accueilli avec une gentillesse qui ne se démentait pas. Alors ? Je crois que c'était l'argent qui me gênait. Bonjour, c’est peut-être des questions bêtes je suis désolé mais je voyage pour la 1ère fois sur un vol avec escale.

Je vais de CDG à Tunis en passant par une correspondance à Rome. Même compagnie Alitalia, billet acheté en 1seule fois.

Ma 1ère question : arrivé à l’aéroport CDG je dois chercher quelle destination sur les panneaux pour l’enregistrement de mes bagages et la récupération de mes billets ? Rome ou ma destination finale Tunis (même si escale) ?

2eme question : dois-je preciser que je fais une escale pour qu’on enregistre bien mes bagages de bout-en-bout et que je n’ai pas à les récupérer lors de mon escale ou tout cela est automatique ?

3ème question : l’escale est de 45minutes. Ça me paraît très court. A priori même Terminal (1). Je suppose que si elle est proposée par la compagnie c’est que c’est faisable, mais j’ai entendu dire que normalement nous sommes attendu par une personne à l’atterrissage pour nous aider au transfert rapide vers le second avion. Pouvez-vous me confirmer ? Car j’ai peur de me perdre et c’est tellement court 45min... Et peut-être que va attendre si nous sommes plusieurs ?

4ème question : Dois-je de nouveau passer la douane car je passe d’un vol dans l’espace Schengen vers une destination hors état-schengen, ou je peux éviter tout cela pour me rendre directement à la porte d’embarquement pour Tunis.

5eme question : A Paris, on me remets bien 2 billets pour Rome et ensuite Tunis ?
