J'ai souvent voyagé en réservant à l'avance avec des agences local, que ce soit le séjour complet ou une partie seulement, et cela surtout pour la langue car je parle très peu anglais.

Et j'aimerai partir en Thailande, Laos et rejoindre Hanoi pandant la periode des fêtes de fin d'année, et là j'aimerai y aller tout seul sans agence.

Donc je me pose quelques questions, je dispose de 15 jours et pas un de plus.

je pensais d'abord réserver avant mon départ le train couchette Bangkok - Chiang Mai, puis le Slow boat Houeixai - Luang Prabang, ainsi que les vols Luang-Prabang - Vientian et Vientiane - Hanoi.

Ma questions est la suivante : pensez-vous qu'il est facile de rejoindre les differents point à date prévue, en voyagant par mes propres moyens ?

Le premier conseil anti palu est d'abord d'éviter de se faire piquer . Ok;

Est-ce facile d'accrocher une moustiquaire adessus des lits ?

Ficelle, punaise, plafond ou alors ????

Nous ne dormirons pas dans des hotels 5*, mais hotels simples a Hanoi et dans le nord où nous dormirons peut-être chez l'habitant .

Je pars au Vietnam en avril.

je suis en train de préparer mon itinéraire pour le Vietnam, départ début octobre pour 3 bonnes semaines. Avant de rentrer dans les détails je veux prévoir les trajets principaux. Je compte arriver à Hanoi, prendre un avion de Hanoi vers Hué, et ensuite repartir de Ho chi minh ville. Mon probleme est de savoir après combien de temps je dois prendre mon avion vers Hué, une semaine dans le Nord, est-ce suffisant ??

Merci à tous de vos conseils, et n'hésitez pas à me proposer des itinéraires intéressants et originaux pour le voyage Nord-Sud. Et s'il y a des amateurs pour m'accompagner, départ le 5 octobre !

Bangkok/Cambodge/Vietnam/Laos (problème de frontière au nord, de Hanoi vers Dien Bien Phu)/Thailande. Combien coute l'avion Hanoi/Luang Prabang? Est-ce à conseiller? Beaucoup plus cher que le bus ou le train?

Il y a aussi une autre alternative: Bangkok/Laos/Vietnam (même problème de frontière au nord) / Cambodge/Thailande.

Est-ce à conseiller de commencer par le Cambodge (plus difficile) et finir par le Laos (dolce vita). En fait de distance, je présume que c'est la même, mais en sens inverse... sur une carte, c'est difficile à évaluer.

Vos commentaires, expériences, conseils me seront très utiles et je vous remercie à l'avance pour votre aide qui me simplifiera beaucoup mon tracé.

Nous avons communiqué avec un représentant vietnamien qui nous offre un forfait de Hanoi à Ho Chi Mhin comprenant quelques repas, les hôtels 4* et les transports pour 950$US par personne. Autre question + pratique: j'ai pris un aller simple pour hanoi car je ne suis pas certaine de mon itinéraire...pense remonter après vers le cambodge puis peut-être Laos (j'ai en gros 2 mois). Il parait que ça ne pose pas de problème car les autorités ne demandent jamais votre billet...est-ce bien vrai?? à l'aéroport non + ??

Hi there, I’ve found so many tips and reviews on this forum, so it’s my turn to contribute a little. We spent just over two weeks with our family, with the following itinerary: - Hanoi: 5 days - Halong Bay: 3 days and 2 nights - Tam Coc: 3 days - Mai Chau: 2 days - Sapa: 3 days We got around by bike, scooter, Grab, and bus. Our main accommodations were homestays and hotels in Hanoi. We visited lots of museums, temples, and neighborhoods in Hanoi. We did a 2-day, 1-night trek in Sapa with May, a Hmong local, without going through an agency. A few small regrets: the weather was overcast, and we couldn’t make it to Fansipan, but nothing major 😅. We also couldn’t find transport to get from Sapa to Mu Cang Chai. Other than that, this trip will stay in our memories for the kindness of the Vietnamese people, the connections we made, the food (street food, homestays...), the coffee 😋, the landscapes, and how easy it was to get around... Our goal was to take our time and focus only on a small part of northern Vietnam. If you need any tips or recommendations, don’t hesitate to ask. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cédric.

Hi there, We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’m heading to China for the first time on October 10th (after Golden Week, so it should be quieter). I’ll be coming from Hanoi (Vietnam), where I’ll be from September 3rd, and I’ll fly to Kunming on October 10th. I’ve planned a route starting in Kunming (4 nights), then Guilin (4 nights), Chongqing (3 nights), Zhangjiajie (4 nights), Chengdu (3 nights), Xi’An (3 nights), Beijing (3 nights), and finally Shanghai (3 nights), with my departure set for November 6th to the Philippines (flight not booked yet). The durations are flexible and should give me enough time to enjoy each place. The schedule is adjustable if needed, and I’ve left a 2-day buffer for the 30-day visa exemption. All connections are planned by high-speed train (not booked yet), with travel times maxing out at 5 hours on the fastest trains. I usually travel solo, but I’m open to some company—someone easygoing and cheerful—and for practical reasons, to split costs on a few excursions, like Dongchuan (the Red Lands), which is easier with a private car.

So, if this itinerary or part of it interests you, I’d love to hear from you!

PS: I’m new to China and its cashless world, so there might be a few lonely moments while I get Alipay, WeChat, and Didi fully set up… 😉

Hi there, In November, we're heading off on a 4-month trip. We'll be landing in China and plan to leave the country via a land border into Vietnam. I’ve read that China may ask for proof of exit within 30 days (flight ticket or other reservation). Since we’d be leaving by land, I’m wondering how this works in practice. Has anyone here been in this situation recently?

Did the airline ask for an exit ticket before boarding? Did Chinese authorities require proof upon arrival? Is a train/bus ticket to Vietnam sufficient? Is a cancelable or flexible reservation accepted?

We’d like to get a (very rough) sense of just how fast Asia is moving compared to what we see in the West (we’re from Quebec). Our 16-day backpacking trip (late June to mid-July 2026) focused on hiking and connecting with locals is starting to take shape, but I’d love your input. I’m torn between two routes: Option 1: A loop from Hanoi to Hanoi, starting with Bai Tu Long Bay, then Tam Coc, Mai Chau, Pu Luong, Mu Cang Chai, and the area around Sapa, before taking the train back to Hanoi. We’re torn between going or not and spending an extra night in Ninh Binh (or somewhere else you’d recommend! Somewhere with a more picturesque vibe) given the late-December weather and cost (which agency do you recommend?). I’m planning a road trip through Southeast Asia with my girlfriend starting in mid-January 2026, and I’m torn between two possible itineraries.

The goal of the trip is to explore the region before catching a flight to Tokyo at the end. The main difference between my two options is the order in which I’d visit Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos.

👉 Itinerary A: Paris > Thailand (Chiang Mai) > Southern Thailand > Malaysia > Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap in Cambodia > Cambodia > Southern to Northern Vietnam > Flight to Tokyo



👉 Itinerary B: Paris > Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) > Southern Thailand and Bangkok > Cambodia > Southern to Northern Vietnam > Flight from Hanoi to Vientiane (Laos) > Laos > Northern Thailand > Flight from Bangkok to Tokyo



Initially, I thought about doing Malaysia > Thailand > Laos > Vietnam > Cambodia, but after looking into it, it’s tricky to get to Tokyo from Cambodia—there’s no direct flight.

My questions: - Which of these itineraries seems the most logical/smooth in terms of transportation? - Which one do you think offers the best overall experience? - Do you have any other route suggestions or visit orders?

Hi fellow travelers! I’m planning a little 3-week trip to Vietnam in mid-to-late March. It’ll probably be the only time I can go. I enjoyed Thailand but clearly preferred Laos—it was calmer. For Vietnam, I don’t have a precise idea of what I want to see yet, and I’m the type to improvise a bit once I’m there. I’m not super adventurous but I’m curious, and I prefer street food over restaurants, markets and off-the-beaten-path villages over big attractions. But I don’t want to miss the must-sees either. So, given that I’ll only be there for 3 weeks, I’m wondering: should I absolutely stick to either the north or the south? Or is it possible to have a nice, not-too-hectic trip by spending, say, one week in the south and two in the north?... (I’d take a multi-city flight for arrival and departure) What do you think? We’d like to spend around 8–10 days in Taiwan, and then we have another 8–10 days to explore somewhere else. We’re torn between Japan, Vietnam, or another country—I haven’t booked my flight yet, but I know I shouldn’t wait too long. Which country would work well for all three of us for 8–10 days? Japan is tempting, but I’m hesitant because of the logistics and the higher budget. Any other ideas for a good compromise?
