Hi there, In two months, I’m heading off for 4 weeks with three backpacker friends to South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini. We’ve got our round-trip flight tickets from France to Johannesburg and plan to drive from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back to Johannesburg in an SUV or 4x4. For other city trips, we’ll use local transport or Uber. That’s the plan for our transportation.

For the car rental, I’d like to know which company to book with. Can anyone give me some tips on renting a vehicle and crossing into Lesotho and Eswatini?

Hello everyone, and a big THANK YOU to all the travelers who took the time to reply to my last post and tell me that doing South India in 28 days was a sweet utopia. My dear friends, you were absolutely right. After 4 days in Goa, I settled for exploring all of Karnataka and its beautiful UNESCO-listed temples, and I loved it. Kerala and Tamil Nadu will have to wait until next year when I can take 6 weeks off.

But the purpose of this post is to ask you which guide or website would be best to prepare for the BLUES TRAIL I’d like to do in September or October 2025 over a month: 3 weeks to travel the route, enjoy Nashville a bit too, and the last week to explore Louisiana. I saw that *Le Routard* has a guide on Louisiana. Where else can I find more info?

Hi there, We’re heading to Senegal for the first time at the end of February as a group of four, and we’re eager to make the most of our 7 days. So, not much (if any) downtime—just a heads-up! ;) For such a short trip, we’ve had to make some tough choices. We’ve decided to skip Lompoul due to the 24/7 noise and light pollution from the mine. Casamance is too far for this time around. We love animals and birds (and it seems late February/early March is still a good time to spot migratory birds). We’re planning to rent a car. Putting all these factors together, here’s the rough itinerary we’ve come up with: - Day 1: Dakar, Gorée - Day 2: Kayar, Saint-Louis, Lac de Barbarie - Day 3: Makhana, Djoudj Bird Sanctuary, Lac de Barbarie - Day 4: Drive to Somone - Day 5: Bandia, Somone - Day 6: Saloum Delta - Day 7: Saloum Delta - Day 8: Return to Dakar Airport

Hello, We’re planning (two people in their early sixties!) a trip to Cappadocia next April for 9 days on site, and I need your help.

We land in Ankara. We’re planning 1 day in the capital, then taking a bus to Göreme. I’ve read that Göreme is very touristy and that it’s better to stay in Urgup (or elsewhere). What do you think?

From there, I’m not really sure how to organize our sightseeing "circuit" to avoid too much back-and-forth and keep it coherent… and that’s where I could use your help! We enjoy nature but also cities, a bit of hiking, and discovering unusual spots. Is it necessary to rent a car for more flexibility, or are public transport options doable without losing too much time?

Final question: Is 6 or 7 days in Cappadocia too long? If so, what would you recommend nearby without spending hours on a bus? We prefer seeing less but better, and without rushing too much. Thanks so much, and if you have any great budget-friendly tips, don’t hesitate!! Thanks.

Hi everyone, I’m stopping just giving advice on new topics to others and leading by example. Here’s a quick recap of my Manakara–Fort Dauphin route via the ferry + 10 track (RN12). The road is changing: bridges are being built, some sections are being paved. By bike, it’s doable, though some sandy stretches are still pretty tough if you’re as overloaded as I was... Left Manakara’s Hôtel Les Délices on the 11th with my pretty beat-up blue bike...

Evening of the 11th: Ivohipeno Hôtel La Source.

12th–15th: Farafangana’s must-visit Hôtel Concombre Masqué, bike prep. 16th: Vangaindrano—Hôtel Chez Huguette was full, so I went to Tropic Hôtel, which is nice even with plumbing issues. Did my shopping since it’s the last real town. 17th: Chez Flavienne—her real job is singer/dancer, and she has cute little bungalows before the village of... I never found it on GPS or maps. A bit basic but welcoming, with Flavienne taking great care of me. 18th: Manombondro—the "friends’ spot," yikes, avoid! The restaurant’s okay, but the room is really rough: sketchy shower, the room opens right onto the main road where all the 4x4s gather. Good for tips, but better to sleep elsewhere...

20th: Taking one of the many alternative tracks, I got lost and camped under my tent less than 5 km from Sandravinany. 21st: Sandravinany—first day at Mamie Louise’s, average hotel. Vesslasse, the manager, is great. 22nd: The next day, I went back to the fisherman’s cabin I’d thought was closed the day before—awesome! Perfect location with a lagoon view.





Vesslasse stops by regularly to offer his services—he knows everyone, is efficient, and super friendly. I treated myself to a few days of contemplative relaxation before taking a pirogue toward the coastal track on the morning of the 25th—big mistake! Hardly anyone around to ask for directions, so I got lost multiple times, did a bunch of backtracking, and dealt with a lot of sand... Check out this YouTube video: From Sandravinany to the Sand Track 25th: Maroroy—chez Louisette, can’t miss it: right after the ferry, by the water, super relaxing. By the water, super relaxing. 26th: Manantenina—the very nice (and for me, too expensive) bungalows of Jean-Philippe were full, so I stayed at Hôtel Le Bleu, small bungalows with a restaurant on the main road. 27th: Sainte Luce—I got a ride from a UNICEF 4x4, so I *had* to stay at Hôtel Vah’inn—expensive but right on the water, with a pool table and good food. 28th: Fort Dauphin—Hôtel Nepenthes: central (steep climb to get there!) but nice bungalows.



Fort Dauphin has plenty of very affordable hotels. After that, I headed back to Tulear in a shared 4x4 (Godzilla)—two pretty grueling days, but the driver was really nice.

We’re planning a week-long trip to Finnish Lapland in February 2026 with two kids aged 7 and 4.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time browsing websites and this forum, but I still have a few questions left.

We’ll be landing in Rovaniemi but won’t be staying there, so we’re planning to rent a car. Do you have any recommendations for rental companies? Is a Golf-sized car sufficient, or should we opt for something better suited to the conditions?

I found some nice accommodations near Akaslompolo. Is the area nice? Are there restaurants, shops, etc.? If it were just me, I’d go for total isolation, but I’m not alone 😎 If not, do you have any alternatives within a 2-hour radius of Rovaniemi? I’d also spotted Luosto.

We’re planning the classic activities: - Visiting a reindeer farm (but no sled ride); - A dog-sledding excursion; - Ice fishing; - A few evenings hunting for auroras using our car and a dedicated app; - A day in Rovaniemi for Santa Claus Village, the Arctic Museum, and the small Ranua Zoo; - An ice hockey game; - And maybe a day of skiing.

Do you have any recommendations for activity providers?

What kind of clothing layers do you recommend for the kids at this time of year?

Is the amethyst mine in Luosto worth it? I think the prices are over the top and can’t figure out why… Maybe there’s a good reason?

Pour certains d'entre vous, jimagine que c'est déjà la rentrée, pour moi c'est la semaine prochaine. Comme on ne pourra plus voyager avant un certain temps (taf et Covid), j'aimerais bien connaître des balades à faire dans Paris, parce qu'en fait je me rend compte qu'en dehors des lieux connus et du quartier où je travaille, je ne connais pas bien la capitale😐. Donc, je voulais demander aux Parisiens et à ceux qui connaissent bien Paris de me conseiller des balades d'une dizaine de kilomètres dans Paris intra-muros histoire de découvrir un Paris insolite. Si c'est limité à un quartier ou à une thématique, c'est super. Ça peut être par exemple le Paris des Africains (avec des lieux de rencontres typiques, des marchés, des cafés, etc.), le Paris des ouvriers (cafés, vieilles usines ou résidences...), le Paris du jazz (caveaux, thème de la nuit...), le Paris d'un écrivain en particulier (sa maison, sa rue, ses adresses préférées...). Je suis ouverte à tout, et de toute façon, ce n'est pas que pour moi, j'imagine que vos suggestions intéresseront beaucoup de monde. Un itinéraire écrit serait bien mais avec un plan ce serait encore mieux😛

Il y a 2 ans, nous avons séjourné 6 semaines à Ténérife et nous avons adoré.

Si Covid19 le permet, nous projetons retourner aux Canaries pour y séjourner 5 mois ( de novembre à avril ), et nous voulons diviser notre séjour sur 3 îles: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura et Gran Canaria.

Selon votre expérience, en termes de mois, comment devrions-nous diviser notre séjour par île?

Après un (magnifique) séjour à 2 en Namibie en 2016, nous voudrions partir en Afrique du Sud avec nos enfants. Nous envisageons un voyage en 2021 (ou 2022), en juillet ou en août, sur une période idéalement de 4 semaines. Nos enfants auront alors 11 et 8 ans. Madame me laissant libre pour organiser le voyage, avec pour principale contrainte de ne pas avoir trop de journées super chargées en terme de temps passé sur la route.

Tout d'abord un grand merci aux personnes qui prennent le temps de répondre et de donner leurs conseils. Ce forum est une mine d'informations.

Nous projetons de partir en Namibie du 23 juin au 13 juillet 2021 (à confirmer en fonction des vols) avec nos deux filles qui auront 16 et 13 ans 1/2. L'idée est de le faire en 4*4 avec tentes sur le toit pour profiter au maximum des grands espaces et de couper un peu avec des lodges et guest farms. Je ne sais pas encore à quelle fréquence. Peut-être prendre un lodge quand le camping n'apporte pas de plus value pour profiter du cadre.

J'ai pris contact avec deux TO : Suntrail et Tourmaline qui m'ont envoyé chacun un 1er jet et j'aimerais avoir votre avis.

Les itinéraires se ressemblent avec quelques petites différences. il faut déjà que je revois le combiné campsite / lodges car après réflexion je trouve que cela fait bcp de nuits en lodges, alors qu'on loue un 4*4 équipé camping. De plus, une moyenne gamme nous suffit, je n'ai pas encore regardé quelle gamme ils ont choisies. Il me semble avoir lu que sur juin / juillet on ne peut pas profiter des piscines.

Suntrail propose une nuit de plus à Etosha, quel est votre avis : 3 ou 4 nuits ?

C'est une première ébauche à affiner bien sûr mais quelques premiers avis sur les itinéraires et les hébergements que vous connaissez m'aideraient déjà beaucoup.

Bonjour à tous. J'aurais besoin de conseils au sujet d'un voyage possible pour lÉquateur pour 4 mois en décembre. Je voudrais savoir si un tel voyage, en nous déplaçant si nous le souhaitons environs aux 2 semaines, est réalisable ou souhaitable. Nous sommes dans la soixantaine mais avons plusieurs expériences de voyages snowbirds. Nous aimons quand même un minimum de confort sans excès, aimerions notre appartement avec cuisine et cherchons les villes sécuritaires d'où nous pourrions faires quelques visites. Pour ceux qui ont déjà vécu une telle expérience, pouvez vous me donner un budget et des coups de coeur pour les logements.

Nous sommes deux amies et avons prévu de visiter CRACOVIE 4 jours en avril 2020 (inclus week-end de Pâques). Nous souhaitons savoir comment se rendre à l'Abbaye de Tyniec pour profiter aussi de l'environnement. Nous souhaiterions profiter d'une croisière sur la Vistule jusqu'à l'abbaye mais ce que nous avons trouvé est HORS DE PRIX (Poland Travel 293 € par personne pour 4 H de croisère !!).
