Hello, This summer, a kayaking expedition in Spitsbergen will attempt to reach the 80th parallel north, which is practically the northern tip of the island. We're looking for crew members. No need to be an experienced kayaker—navigating a sea kayak is within everyone's reach. This trip mainly requires good physical condition: in addition to paddling, setting up and taking down camp is energy-intensive, and there are also night watches (it will be daylight all the time) to guard against polar bears. You also need to be comfortable with isolation (3 weeks) and the unpredictability, especially the weather, of such a journey.

The expedition is organized by the agency Grand Nord Grand Large. All the details are on their website. I should mention that I have no affiliation with this agency, but this trip has already been postponed twice due to insufficient participants, and I’d really like it to happen this time. I’ve kayaked in the Arctic before, both in Spitsbergen and Greenland, but this is an exceptional adventure.

Hi there, here are some practical details that might help with planning a future trip to Québec-Ontario. 3 weeks as a couple from September 21 to October 15, 2024. Lyon-Montréal flight with Air Transat: 850 €

Accommodation: We only booked the first two nights at a hotel in Montréal. After that, we reserved the day before or even the same afternoon for the next night, going with the flow of the trip. No availability issues—there are plenty of motels. Accommodation is expensive, though; budget around 80-100 € per night on average. -Car rental with Authentik/Thrifty: 760 € for 20 days. Picked up at the downtown branch and returned at the airport. Smooth, quick, competent staff, and a recent car. Added extra insurance with SereniZen. We drove 5,000 km, and gas was less than 1 € per liter. -Food: We’ll keep it short—expensive and not great. -Health: Medical costs seem very high, so on top of credit card insurance, we were advised to get additional coverage. We went with Heymondo. -Tap water is drinkable everywhere. -SIM card: 4GB with unlimited calls for 1 month: 17 € -Our favorite spots for fall colors: the Eastern Townships, Algonquin Park, and Mont Tremblant. I really, really want to go back to China, but since the country is evolving at lightning speed, I’m wondering. I went there nearly 20 years ago. It was already undergoing a lot of changes, slowly but surely, but I still have wonderful memories of the country, which I found so endearing at the time. I visited Beijing, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hainan, and also Tibet by train, then Xinjiang. Now, we’re mainly considering Gansu and Hunan.

It was still possible to get 60-day visas back then, which isn’t the case anymore since they’re now limited to 30 days. But at the same time, the country seems more accessible. Many hotels are open to foreign tourists, sophisticated transport options have developed everywhere, and it’s possible to visit for up to 15 days without a visa... Tourists can easily travel by train or plane, but to reach places "off the beaten path," it seems you need to rent a vehicle with a driver. There used to be plenty of day-trip group tours, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

It’s hard to find info on whether certain routes are feasible for independent travel.

From what I’ve gathered here and there, "high tech" has taken over the entire country, the countryside has given way to imposing buildings, cities are increasingly industrialized and polluted—basically, the country has become dehumanized... In short, are there still beautiful places left—dare I say preserved—to see?

Add to this the bad reputation, not always justified, that China suffers from. It seems like the country is being boycotted by travel agencies, as if it’s not "politically correct" to visit. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but I’ve noticed this with French agencies like Nomade, Allibert, etc., which used to offer a wide range of itineraries everywhere, especially in Yunnan. Now, they’ve limited themselves to the classics: Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, water towns, or Tibet. Yunnan, Gansu, Qinghai, and many other Chinese provinces are no longer on the menu. Maybe it’s due to COVID...

The destination isn’t exactly a hit on forums either...

So, is it still worth going in 2025? I’d love to hear from those who’ve been there recently. Looking forward to exchanging thoughts on this fascinating destination (from my point of view, of course).

Hello, There’s a big debate among travelers who are attached to India and have been visiting often, regularly, for 15 years or more. I’ve experienced it—and still do—in every sense of the word, first as a tourist, then from the inside by living there for 12 years. I feel it has changed a lot and continues to change at a dizzying pace, year after year, almost month after month. It all depends on how you see it, how you visit it, where you stay, etc... North or south, and so on... The debate is open—no animosity or arguments if opinions differ. Just your own take, your personal experiences, your travel conditions, what you’ve noticed and still notice today... Let’s try to be objective, if possible, though it’s a tough exercise.

Hi, does anyone know the status of the ETA that’s supposed to go into effect in December 2024 (and needs to be requested on the e-visa portal www.thaievisa.go.th)? Is it officially starting on December 1st? I’ve got my flight on the 7th of December and I’m on a Non-O Retirement visa with a re-entry. From what I understand, it’ll only apply to visa-free entries and should allow a 60-day stay in the kingdom with the option to extend for 30 more days. So I’m wondering if I need to apply for this since I already have a valid visa. Thanks in advance for your answers! 😊

Lorsque les conditions seront favorables, je projette un voyage au long cours à vélo. Hypothétiquement, l'idée de départ est un voyage d'environ 12 000 km, j'irais bien de France jusqu'en Mongolie. Je me pose la question du remplacement de certaines pièces et consommables. Je veux bien partir avec des patins de frein, des câbles, des rayons... Mais comment remplacer chaine/cassette, pneus... si l'on est dans des zones où l'on ne trouve pas un tel matériel. Peut-être trouve-t-on tout ce que l'on veut partout ?

Bonjour j ai plusieurs questions concernant un projet de voyage avec AF-KLM. Je souhaiterais partir de Marseille vers la Pologne le 3 oct pour une semaine. Je souhaite prendre Air France. J ai lu sur un article de presse que depuis aujourd hui tous les billets étaient annulables sans raison particulière et que les billets non remboursables pouvaient en cas d annulation obtenir un avoir remboursable. Ou pouvons nous lire cette info sur le site d air france. Je n ai rien trouvé de tel sur le site et la dame que j ai eu au téléphone m a dit que seuls les vols annulés par ma compagnie pouvaient obtenir un avoir. Selon si cette info est exacte je réserverai un billet standard non remboursable ou sinon pour 200 € de plus un billet flex.

Pour le choix de vol, ils passent par Amsterdam. Or les pays bas mettent les gens en provenance de Marseille en quarantaine. La dame d air france me l confirmé et m a dit qu on me refuserait l embarquement. Je ne trouve aucune info nulle part concernant cela et ça m etonne beaucoup.

Enfin dernière question, le pologne est aujourd hui ouverte au tourisme pour tous les ressortissants de l espace Schengen. Pensez vous qu ils gardent cette ligne ?

j'ai en ma possession une bonne vingtaine de billets de metro qui ont pas mal d'années donc démagnétises j'ai cru comprendre qu'il existe maintenant une carte magnétique qui regroupe les tickets de transports, est ce qu'il y a possibilité d'envoyer par la poste à un service mes tickets et qu'ils me renvoient derrière une carte (je peux rajouter une enveloppe timbrée si besoin)? si c'est possible pouvez vous me dire chez qui je dois m'adresser je n'ai pas spécialement d'aller à Paris les prochains mois et je me rappelle que la dernière fois que j'y étais et que je voulais faire re-magnetisé des billets au guichet j'avais à chaque fois en face de moi un employé qui me disait très antipathiquement "deux ou trois billets max car il y a du monde qui attends derrière" si je peux eviter ce genre de moments je ne dirais pas non cordialement

Bonjour, il m'est proposé un appartement Samsara sur le Diadema qui a l'air vraiment superbe. Mais j'ai la nette impression en regardant les films qu'il n'y a pas de balcon EXTERIEUR. Je vois certes un jacuzzi donnant sur la mer, mais il a l'air fermé. Quelqu'un peut-il m'indiquer s'il existe bien AUSSI un balcon extérieur dans ces appartements ? Si tel est le cas, il faudrait prendre la précaution de bien le montrer !

J'essaie d'évacuer un peu les carnets de ces dernières années, je m'attaque à celui-ci car il est assez court. J'ai deja fait un carnet sur la Chine ici : https://voyageforum.com/v.f?post=6937738;#6937738 . Lors de ce précédent voyage je ne mettais pas rendu à Pekin, trop éloigné du Sichuan et Guizhou, j'ai saisi l'opportunité d'un voyage pour le travail à Qingdao pour faire un crochet d'une semaine à Pekin. Essentiellement voir les classiques que la ville a à offrir mais aussi aller voir le fameux mur. C'est donc en Février 2018 que se passe ce carnet, encore loin du Covid.

J'ai eut la chance qu'un ami chinois me propose d'être mon guide et s'occupe de moi pendant toute la durée du séjour, j'étais loin d'imaginer que ça aller atteindre un tel niveau 😎. Il faisait un froid mordant, mais beau et sec, peu, voir pas de pollution quand je m'y trouvais.
