Trip report: Cayenne - Macapá - Belém
I’ve seen some info about this route, but not nearly enough, so I thought I’d share what I did for anyone interested.
Cayenne - Saint-Georges: From Cayenne’s bus station, the TIG No. 8 bus goes to Saint-Georges. It’s a minibus run by a contractor you can call ahead to reserve a seat. I managed to get a spot the same day. It was parked on the other side of the river, across from the main bus stops. Price: 40 €, departures at 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM, and 3 PM except Sundays, depending on driver availability.
Saint-Georges - Oiapoque: Once in Saint-Georges, cross the river by canoe for 10 €. The canoe made a first stop on the opposite bank, then a second in the center of Oiapoque. To enter Brazil, you’ll need to get your passport stamped. This can be done at the federal police station, less than 1 km from the dock, heading into Oiapoque.
Oiapoque - Macapá: From Oiapoque, there are buses or taxis. Not knowing when the next bus would come, I didn’t want to wait, so I went back to the dock and took a 4x4, a kind of shared taxi, for 250 reals. I left around 4 PM and arrived at 2 AM in Macapá. If I had to do it again, I’d take the bus—apparently, it has reclining seats and travels overnight to arrive the next morning.
Macapá - Santana You need to get to Santana to take the ferry to Belém—tricky on a Sunday... After waiting for a bus that was taking forever, I took a *carretera pirata* (unofficial taxi) on the advice of a local Brazilian. It took me to Santana for 10 reals (vs. 5 for the bus). The ride takes about 15 minutes from Macapá to Santana’s port. You can do this the same morning.
Santana - Belém I bought tickets directly at the port when I arrived from one of the many agencies. I slept in a no-frills little hotel right by the port, run by a charming elderly couple, and boarded the next day at 9 AM. You’ll need a hammock to sleep if you’re not taking a cabin. The fare is 250 reals—it’s listed as 300, but they gave me a "discount" without me even asking. The trip takes 24 hours to Belém. There’s a small snack bar for those who didn’t have time to pack food.

Locus Map on tablet vs PC
Hi there,
I got a handlebar bag for my bike with a KlickFix system and a Galaxy Tab A tablet. I can fit the tablet into the waterproof transparent pouch on the bag—it’s absolutely awesome, I’ve got my dashboard right on the handlebar! I’d like to use Locus Map for geolocation and create a route from Nantes to Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine. On my PC, with Locus Map, I see the interface on the left to create a planned route (like in the red-framed screenshot below). But on my tablet (using the app), I can’t find the interface to create a planned route from point A to B like I can on the PC. I need help figuring out how to create a route from A to B on my tablet with Locus Map—I know how to find and download a GPX file, but for Nantes to Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine, there’s no GPX file available online. Also, does anyone know how to remove the ads on Locus Map?

Quebec Itinerary for Indian Summer
Hi everyone! 🙂
My partner would love to discover Quebec, while I’ve already been there over 15 years ago (Quebec City, Tadoussac, the Fjords, Lac Saint-Jean).
This time, of course, we’d want to do something different.
Quebec City would still be a must for my partner in this plan.
With the tight budget we have right now🤪, we’re thinking of spending several days in Quebec City, then maybe renting bikes to explore the surrounding areas—aside from Montmorency Falls, what other nice spots are worth visiting? I remember there being tons of bike paths.
After that, we’d rent a car (for a few days to visit the parks) and use trains or buses for the rest of the trip. From what I recall, cars aren’t super fuel-efficient there.
Since we’ve never seen Niagara Falls, I’d like to include it in this itinerary.
For a roughly 15-day trip in September, I was thinking of a multi-destination flight: France-Quebec / Toronto-France, so it’d look something like this:
Quebec City: 5 days (including arrival day)
Pick up the car
La Mauricie National Park (or others?) 1 day
Mont-Tremblant 1 day
Montreal 4 days
Drop off the car in Montreal
By train/bus
Toronto 2 days
By train/bus
Buffalo-Niagara Falls 1 day
Toronto 1 day (return to France)
I was planning one night at Niagara Falls—is that enough, or is a single day sufficient?
If our finances don’t stretch that far, we’d shorten the trip from Montreal (so long, Niagara🙁), adding extra nights between Quebec City and Montreal.

I left 7 sweaters/T-shirts in Tadoussac 😕. Would anyone happen to be going there this weekend and then heading back to Montreal? To pick them up and meet me somewhere?

Venice’s Vogalonga
Hi everyone, I’m not sure if you can help us out. We’ll be in Venice from June 8th to 17th. We arrive at the airport on the 8th and planned to take the Alilaguna waterbus to St. Mark’s Square to get to our Airbnb. We’ve estimated arriving at St. Mark’s Square between 11 AM and 12 PM. We didn’t realize we’d be arriving on the day of the race.
Because of the Vogalonga race taking place on June 8th, is the Grand Canal still navigable? If not, from what time will it be accessible again?

Whale watching: Tadoussac or Bay of Fundy?

I’m planning a short trip—max one week—to connect to the Dolce Via starting from La Voulte and then link up with the Dolce Fluvia. I’d like to head up via Le Puy and was wondering if it’s best to make the connection by going through Saint-Agrève, then up to Chambon/Lignon, and finally to Raucoules. Does anyone have a nice route suggestion? I’m traveling with a loaded touring bike (a Farrad TX800 with two rear panniers), but I’m limiting my load to 13 kg. I’m aiming for around 70 km a day, max 80 km, and I usually sleep at campsites or in a guest room if the rain’s too heavy.
On my way up to Le Puy-en-Velay, I plan to come back down through the Ardèche mountains, then head to Aubenas and the Rhône Valley. Does anyone have route ideas with scenic roads (like Lac d’Issarlès) or any other suggestions?

Six weeks in Réunion in January/February
Hello, we’re a couple over 70 and will be spending about six weeks in Réunion next January/February, staying first in Saint-Leu and then in Saint-Pierre, each time in independent accommodations. We’ll have a car and enjoy hiking, though nothing too strenuous. Otherwise, we live quietly—cooking our own meals and exploring at a relaxed pace. Our goal is simply to escape the harshest part of the European winter in good conditions. Can anyone share some great tips, easy hikes, must-see spots, or surprising activities? Hey everyone who survived that killer rum that was supposed to take us all out...
I took a trip to Russia in August 2024—16 unforgettable days. Entered via KARSAVA, Ostrov, then Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Voronezh, Ostrov on the Don, and exited at VLADIKAVKAZ through Georgia, Turkey, etc... I’d love to know if anyone’s done the reverse route—entering via Vladikavkaz from Georgia by personal vehicle, car, or motorcycle—and how long the wait was to cross the border. At the Karsava crossing in Latvia last August, it took between 2 and 3 days. The holdup is on the Russian side due to lack of staff and equipment since the formalities are so complicated...

Je mets ce post car je n’avais pas trouvé trop d infos sur le net sur ce circuit. Nous rentrons de 2 semaines d itinérance en vélo avec : - une première partie en famille (5&7ans) de Tarbes jusqu à seignosse: nous avons suivi à peu près les sentiers de l adour jusqu à saint sever, puis voie cyclable de la Chalosse jusqu à Dax, pour finir par couper direction Soustons puis seignosse (plage!). Nous étions en mix bivouac/camping avec carriole et follow me
- une deuxième partie de Seignosse à Tarbes où nous avons suivi le gave cette fois-ci. Nous nous sommes délestés à Saint Vincent de Tyrosse des enfants et de beaucoup de matos pr un retour rapide à 2 (a l hôtel) par peyrehorade, Orthez, Pau, Lourdes, Tarbes. D Orthez à Lourdes, nous avons suivi la Véloroute du Piémont v81 qui est très chouette.
Ça fait une boucle d environ 400km quasi plat, ce qui est parfait pour nos gambettes ! Si vous voulez des infos, n hésitez pas à poser vos questions ou à m envoyer un mp.

Pour patienter encore quelques jours, je prépare un périple cycliste...
J'aimerais savoir si la Rigole d'Alzeau, alimentant le Canal du Midi, est cyclable, en particulier la portion de la prise d'Alzeau (Barrage de la Galaube) jusqu'au lac Saint Ferréol. Je possède un VTC bien chargé.

Nous souhaitons découvrir la Bretagne en famille avec nos deux grandes filles (majeures !) pour une durée d'environ 3 semaines avec un départ hors Bretagne puisque nous aimerions visiter le Mont Saint-Michel par la même occasion.
Nous ne connaissons pas du tout la région mais les quelques photos que j'ai pu apercevoir sont tout simplement magnifiques.
Afin d'avoir un bon aperçu de la région et sachant que nous aimons particulièrement les paysages côtiers et la nature, que pensez-vous des ces points de chute :
3 nuits Mont Saint-Michel 3 nuits vers Perros-Guirec 4 nuit vers Kerlouan 3 nuits vers Concarneau 4 nuits vers Vannes 3 nuits vers Saint-Nazaire
ou éventuellement :

Loire à vélo: possibilité d'en faire une partie en bateau? English translation pending

Je prépare actuellement les vacances de cet été à vélo, en famille (2 ados).
L'objectif étant de longer la Loire Chinon - Saumur - Angers - Nantes - Saint Brévin puis la côté Atlantique jusqu'à La Rochelle.
C'est notre premier voyage à vélo et je cherche des activités complémentaires pour varier les journées. Autant la côte atlantique, il y a la possibilité de se baigner, que la Loire outre les châteaux, jardin, et autres activités culturelles, j'ai peur que mes ados se lassent.
Du coup, je me demandais s'il était possible de faire un petit bout de la Loire en bateau (avec les vélos), entre Angers et Nantes. Sinon, quelles activités sympas peut on faire ?

Aide choix parcours croisière Caraïbes English translation pending

Notre croisière d'avril étant annulée pour cause de coronavirus nous souhaiterions la reporter sur les Caraïbes en février. Nous ne sommes jamais allés dans les Caraïbes et j'hésite entre 2 parcours ( le bateau m'importe peu et je connais les deux). Donc soit : Guadeloupe, la Romana, île Catalina, Tortola, Saint Martin, Martinique soit : Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao, Aruba, îles Bes, Grenade. Nous avons envie de belles plages bien sûr mais aussi de choses à voir ou faire. Nous sommes un couple la cinquantaine et une ado 16 ans. Merci de vos conseils si vous connaissez ces destinations !
