Merci!!

Marrakech with a backpack for 7 days: what to pack to handle the heat?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a 7-day trip to Marrakech for a sports camp, and I’ll be traveling with just a standard carry-on backpack.
I’d love to hear your best tips and tricks: • What clothes are absolutely essential? • Any advice for managing the heat while traveling light? • Which accessories have been the most useful for you? • Mistakes to avoid on a first trip to Marrakech?
I’m also open to your recommendations for neighborhoods, restaurants, or activities not to miss during my free time.
Thanks in advance for your advice and experience! !

Questions about a stay with cultural and outdoor activities in Porticcio
Hi everyone,
I’ll be staying in Porticcio for a week in mid-June.
I’d love some tips on things I’d like to do while I’m there:
- Which rivers with waterfalls can you swim under or in natural "pools" near Porticcio?
- Where can I go to listen to Corsican singing in a church in the area (is there a specific day of the week for this, for example)?
- Which restaurant would you recommend for Corsican specialties in Sartène?
- Are there any excursions (Lavezzi Islands, Calanques de Piana) where we might spot dolphins?
- Where can I do hobie cat or optimist sailing, as well as jet skiing, around Porticcio?
That’s all for now! 😉 😉 😉
Thanks in advance for any tips you can share!

Weather in Shanghai at Christmas
Hi there,
For those who’ve experienced it, what’s the weather like in Shanghai at the end of December? I’ve heard it’s cold, but coming from France, is the winter milder than in Lyon, for example?
I’m tempted to spend the Christmas holidays in Shanghai and the surrounding areas (Nanjing, Suzhou) with my family—kids are 11 and 2. It’d be a bummer if the little one catches a cold over there.
Generally, is this a good time for simple family visits to the main spots, restaurants in the city, indoor heating, and outdoor walks?

Poland: average cost of a meal and souvenirs in zloty
Hi there
I’d like to know how much a meal costs on average in zloty in Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Częstochowa, Wadowice), and also the price of souvenirs like postcards and magnets—so I don’t end up with too many zlotys left after my 5-day trip to Poland?

Looking for beta testers for a travel planning website project
Hello everyone,
First off: before posting, I took the time to contact the moderation team to check if this message complied with the forum rules. Since I didn’t get a response and didn’t want to go against them, I’m posting without naming the site, including links, or any promotional intent.
For the past two years, I’ve been working solo on a website project designed to help organize a trip from A to Z, whether traveling alone or with others.
The idea is to make trip planning easier by bringing together all the useful elements in one place (regions, accommodations, activities, restaurants, hidden gems, etc.).
With development nearing completion, I’m now looking for a few people interested in joining a beta testing phase and giving me honest feedback on the experience, how clear the concept is, and what could be improved.
This isn’t a promotional effort: I’m not representing a company, I’m developing this project on my own, and I’m only looking for constructive input from fellow travelers.
A few details: — No payment is required; — No banking information is needed; — It’s simply a test to gather user feedback.
If anyone wants to know more or is up for testing, feel free to reply here or send me a private message.
Thanks so much to those who take the time to read this.

Cruise Canceled on the Celebrity Infinity
Hi everyone,
Here’s a little story about what happened to me—I was supposed to go on a cruise on the CELEBRITY INFINITY on February 16th, but nothing went as planned 😕
We left for Athens on February 14th, had a good flight, and stayed at the same hotel as last year, the PHIDIAS PIRAEUS HOTEL, which we really liked.
But this year, it was disappointing—no upgrade from BOOKING, so a smaller room and, above all, noisy because of a compressor sound....
Anyway, we arrived in the late afternoon, took a walk, and found a really nice restaurant in the pedestrian streets of Piraeus.
The next day, the 15th, we maybe thought about going to the island of Aegina, but we got up a little too late, so we just went for a walk. We came back to the hotel for a break, then got ready for a massage I had booked online.
I absentmindedly checked my phone… an email from CELEBRITY announcing the cancellation of the cruise!!! That’s a first for us—we were a little shocked by the news 😕 TO BE CONTINUED....
Wi-Fi in Taiwan and budget-friendly hotels
Hi everyone who’s reading this!
I’m heading to Taiwan soon and would love some up-to-date info on Wi-Fi. From what I’ve gathered, Taiwan offers it for free, but I’ve heard it’s not secure since it’s not protected by a "password." Since I’ve been traveling outside the EU for years without a local SIM card, I only use Wi-Fi in hotels, restaurants, and cafés. For me, that’s more than enough. So, my question is: Do these places secure their Wi-Fi with a "password"? If not, does buying a SIM card or eSIM seem like the only alternative?
Also, if any of you have recommendations for budget-friendly hotels in the main "cities," I’d love to hear them!
Thanks in advance for your replies! !

All-Inclusive Stay on Roatan Island
HENRY MORGAN HOTEL AND BEACH RESORT
Transfer (half an hour) from the airport to the hotel by minibus. We drop off our suitcases at the airport exit. They are loaded onto another vehicle and transported directly to the hotel, where we pick them up upon arrival.
We’re given our wristbands, two key cards for our room, a remote for the TV, a remote for the air conditioning (ours was already in the room), and a document with a detailed site map and information on restaurant, bar, and other service hours. Reception is open 24 hours.
We got room F3, located on the ground floor of a two-story building. It’s very well situated since it’s in the central part of the resort.
The room has two large beds with super comfortable mattresses, two nightstands, a coffee table with two chairs, two wardrobes, and plenty of storage space.
There’s also a large flat-screen TV. Netflix is included free of charge by the hotel—no subscription required. The safe is also provided at no extra cost.
There’s a mini-fridge, and the housekeeper provides bottles of water. However, it’s suggested to refill the bottles at the water stations by the bar, which we did several times.
The bathroom has a shower, toilet, sink with storage space, a large mirror, a towel rack, a hairdryer, soap, shampoo, and several rolls of toilet paper.
The hot water temperature in the shower varied during our stay. The air conditioning works perfectly.
We have a terrace with a chair and two hammocks.
The room uses 110 volts, and there are a few power outlets in the room.
The buffet restaurant is air-conditioned and open from 7 AM to 10 AM for breakfast, 12 PM to 3 PM for lunch, and 6 PM to 8:30 PM for dinner.
The buffet selection is very varied, and the food is delicious. The wine, both white and red, tastes great. The service is exceptional.
There’s also an à la carte restaurant ($), the Gastro Bar & Winery, open from 11 AM to 10 PM. We didn’t go there.
There’s a snack bar open from 11 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 5 PM, but I can’t comment on it since we didn’t visit.
We only went to the lobby bar near the showroom, which is open from 9:30 AM to 11 PM. The staff is very friendly, and the service is excellent.
Beer is served in cans but poured into a glass, and a wide variety of cocktails is available.
Beach towels are placed in our room upon arrival. There’s a kiosk near the main pool where you can exchange them.
There are two pools on-site. Many lounge chairs are arranged around both pools. If you prefer tranquility, I suggest heading to the pool between blocks A and B.
This hotel is located on the stunning public West Bay Beach, which is long and very pretty. It’s great for walking, and the sea color is remarkable.
There are plenty of lounge chairs on the beach, but there’s very little space between them.
There’s a long coral reef near the beach where you can observe beautiful corals and several species of tropical fish, lobsters, squid, leopard rays, turtles, etc. You’ll get a glimpse of these in an upcoming video.
Activities are offered throughout the day, but we didn’t really participate. I can’t comment on them, but the entertainment team seems very dynamic.
During our stay, there was only one evening dance show. Other days featured activities like bingo, karaoke, and games.
We didn’t go to the nightclub.
Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the resort. There are two networks you can connect to, and the passwords are listed in the brochure given to you upon arrival.
There’s also a gym, a spa ($), a boutique ($), and a winery ($).
Check-out is at 11 AM. If you lose or damage equipment or misplace key cards, you’ll be charged fees.

Recommendations for a southern Morocco road trip with kids
Hi there,
We’re heading out at the end of February for a road trip with our two kids, ages 3 and 7. Our itinerary includes Ait Ben Haddou, Tizi-n-Tichka, Sourate, Tinghir, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Ouzoud, and Essaouira. I’d love recommendations for accommodations, restaurants, and typical/spectacular spots to visit. We’d like to spend a night in the Zagora desert. We’re looking for authenticity and a friendly vibe—not tourist traps—for our trip. We’ll be there during Ramadan—any tips? Thanks in advance!
Your fellow globetrotter’s perspective is invaluable.

Where to settle in for a long wait at OR Tambo Airport?
Hi there,
For our trip in a month, we’ll have a long wait at OR Tambo. Our flight from Port Elizabeth lands at 2 p.m. and our return flight doesn’t leave until 11:45 p.m.
I’m looking for either a nearby spot to kill time or a quiet corner in the airport to catch some sleep and relax.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks
Which charming small towns do you recommend with kids?
Hi everyone,
We’ve visited Zeeland (Netherlands) several times with our two young children—Middelburg, for example—and really loved it. We’re looking for something similar in the Benelux or northern France:
- A pretty, historic small town with charm, not just a village, since we enjoy a slightly "urban" vacation vibe: parks, biking on dedicated paths, museums, cafés, restaurants, and shopping - Very pedestrian-friendly and/or bike-accessible (like the Netherlands always is) - Relatively safe and welcoming for kids, with activities for them (which is also very common in the Netherlands)
Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything as well-preserved and lovely as the extensive center of that small town, which seems to fly under the radar. I’m sure there must be others like it that I’m missing. In the same vein but on a larger scale, we love Bruges, for example—but it’s bigger (which is fine) and especially very expensive.
Thanks in advance for your tips! !

Paying in South Korea
Hi there,
Can you easily pay by card in South Korea, or should you stick to cash?
Is it easy to withdraw money from ATMs with any foreign bank card?
I’ve read some conflicting info about this.
Thanks in advance.

"Tropical Odyssey" CFC Renaissance – November 1st to 22nd, 2025
We’ve just returned from a cruise that my wife and I will remember—unfortunately, not in a good way.
There’s so much to say that I’ll proceed chapter by chapter.
Pre-Cruise
On January 24th, 2025, I booked through a supposedly attentive cruise agent the repositioning cruise of the CFC Renaissance to the French West Indies, initially departing from Le Havre, then from Dunkirk, on November 1st, 2025.
The return flight was included in the price of this trip.
From January, right after booking, this adventure got off to a bad start.
Used to major cruise lines, I asked my agent to reserve a table for 4 at the "Vatel" restaurant for the second seating, and to link this reservation to the cabin of friends traveling with us. First brush-off: "Ask the maître d’ at the restaurant entrance on the first night."
"To govern is to foresee, and to foresee nothing is to head for disaster," as Émile de Girardin said.
Following this maxim, in February, I started looking for transportation to Le Havre, which was initially the departure port. Then, I asked the travel agent which airport the return flight would land at. I knew flights from Pointe-à-Pitre to Paris served both main Parisian airports. Here, I found myself like a ping-pong ball between the cruise agent and CFC: The cruise agent said, "Ask CFC," and CFC replied, "No, your agent is your intermediary—ask them." It went back and forth like that. Impossible to pre-book the flight that would take us back to our final destination. During the summer, we learned that the departure port was no longer Le Havre but Dunkirk. We canceled our transfers to Le Havre but, of course, lost the cost of the reservations. Meanwhile, we purchased our "Beverage" package—we chose the "Fraîcheur" option, which included all non-alcoholic cocktails, canned sodas, fruit juices, bottled water, and regular coffees. This detail is important for the rest of the story. Every month, I followed up to find out the return airport. Nothing until October 28th (3 days before departure), when CFC finally informed me it was Orly, along with the flight number and time. Of course, on top of booking at full price, I had to arrange my final transfer home. Since I had very little time before the return flight, I had to book an Uber in a rush for the Orly/CDG transfer. Right after, we were told that our first stop in Lisbon—the most anticipated for many cruisers—had been canceled due to a strike at the port of Lisbon and replaced with Vigo, Spain. A completely unremarkable stop—nothing outstanding. As you can see, the prelude was already problematic, yet we’re far from reaching the peak of our disappointments. .......... to be continued soon.

First stop on my European tour
Made it safely to Portugal, can’t wait to start sightseeing and sketching—enjoying the milder weather compared to my next stop, Scotland. :) If it rains, I’ll share my great tips for sketching indoors! 😊
Southern Loop with Ponant Lyrial: any advice on choosing a cabin number?
Hi there,
Based on your experience, do you have any advice to help me choose the right balcony cabin on the Lyrial for the Southern Loop expedition? I’d like one that’s well-placed for easy access to both outdoor and indoor decks for photos (e.g., a standard cabin, not a suite).
For example, would you prefer starboard or port side? Deck 4 or 5? The first cabin from the front or does it not matter?
Thanks for your help!
