/hello, coming from China-Beijing - on 07/04 we're thinking of heading to Korea for 3 weeks. First off, we'd like to know what to expect weather-wise
Rainy season in South Korea
Hey everyone! 🙂
Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

I’m planning my very first trip soon, which will be to South Korea, and I’d love some advice and tips from people who’ve already been there.
I’ll be traveling in October with a friend, and we’re staying for a little over a month. We’ve planned to visit Seoul, Busan, and Jeju Island, and we’d also like to check out some traditional villages—but I’m not sure which ones yet? (I’ve seen names like Gyeongju, Jeonju, and Andong?) So, I’d really appreciate any recommendations on that, as well as how much time you’d suggest spending in each city to make the most of it 🙂 If you have other destinations to recommend, I’m all ears 😉
As for accommodations, is it better to book everything in advance, or is it possible to find something on the day for that same night? I’m a bit anxious about this since we haven’t finalized the dates for each city yet...

What to see in 4 days in South Korea?
We only have 4 days to visit South Korea and we’re landing in Seoul. Is it better to focus on Seoul, or would it be possible to go as far as Gyeongju, stopping by Songnisan National Park to visit Beopjusa Temple, then heading to Gyeongju to see Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, and keeping 2 days for Seoul? Is this doable? We’d need someone to drive us there.

We’re heading to Corsica for 10 days from April 26 to May 5 as a family with two boys aged 8 and 12. We’ll arrive in Calvi and stay for 7 nights in the hills above L’Île-Rousse. Then we’ll have 2 nights left (accommodation not yet booked) before flying out from Ajaccio.
Of course, we’d like to explore and do a few hikes that are kid-friendly.
Some of the places we’ve shortlisted: - the towns of L’Île-Rousse, Calvi, Saint-Florent, and Corte - the villages of Balagne - the Agriates Desert (Ostriconi beach by car, and Lotu by boat with a hike to Saleccia) - Restonica Gorge - a boat trip to Piana and Scandola
For the last part of the trip, I’m really unsure about: - where to stay? - what to visit? I’d thought about staying near Ajaccio and visiting the Sanguinaires Islands and doing a few hikes along the coast, but I’d also spotted some great options inland around Evisa, like the Aitone Forest, for example.
We’ll return the rental car on May 3 at 10 AM in Monticello and fly out from Ajaccio on May 5 at 7:40 PM.
We’ve rented a car for the whole 10 days.
I’ll admit I’m posting this out of convenience because I’ve been *terrible* at planning this trip and could really use your advice—especially about distances and what’s doable without rushing or spending all our time in the car.

We’ll be there from July 15th to 22nd.
I’ve currently planned to stay in Seoul from the 15th to the 19th, then head to Busan from the 19th to the 21st. We need to be back in Seoul on the evening of the 21st because our flight is at 10 AM on the 22nd.
I love modern cities, but for a first trip to Asia, I’d also like to see some traditional sights. Do you think Busan is a good idea?
I’m considering staying in Gyeongju instead and spending two days in Busan...
What do you think?

I’ve done some research, and I’m a bit worried that Seoul might just be a big city like ‘New York’ and that we won’t find that authentic feel.
Is it possible to mix modern and authentic without spending too much time on transportation?
I’d really love to make this trip special for my daughter, but I’m honestly worried about ending up surrounded by skyscrapers for a whole week.

Corsica or Italy in May 2025
I’ve been to Corsica once (Bonifacio) and Italy once (Tuscany), and I have great memories of both. I’d love to go back to one of these places, but this time on a road trip (with my car).
I enjoy walking (nothing too intense like 8-hour hikes), wandering around nature or cities at random, local crafts and specialties, a little beach time, lots of food and culinary discoveries, meeting people, music, and dancing (Latin).
This is the first time I’m posting here to find a travel buddy—up until now, I’ve mostly traveled solo or met up with friends already on location. It could be a great way to share the experience. I’m open to some planning to outline the itinerary, but also leaving room to adjust based on what feels good in the moment or any opportunities that come up. So, I’m thinking of booking accommodations last-minute sometimes—Airbnb, guesthouses, hotels, camping, etc.
Everything’s on the table, and I’d love to chat about it.

- Do they really confiscate passports on arrival? - Do they also keep our phones?
And about medications—are there any limits? Do we need documentation or special precautions? Is there a risk they might be confiscated on arrival? (This treatment is vital for me.)

7-day mini road trip in Corsica: your thoughts?
Hi everyone, after a stay in the South and one in the North, I’m planning a mini road trip in Corsica (Bastia-Bastia) in June to explore places I haven’t seen yet. Since we’re heading to the mountains later this year, we’ve deliberately skipped the Corsican mountains. Could you share your thoughts and, most importantly, suggest things to see? We love nature, reasonable hikes, peaceful spots, and small villages. No cities. No boat excursions (yes, that includes Piana and Scandola). We already know the area between Bastia and Calvi.

Questions: The DMZ: I haven’t planned to go, and I’m struggling to see the appeal. What do you think? Jeju: I’m on the fence about Jeju. It seems like the *place to be*, but I’m not sure what makes it so charming or what’s really a must-do there?
On my map, I’m hesitating about Hahoe. I’m definitely going to Jeonju because there are several sites in that area. For Hahoe, I’m unsure because I’d need to stop overnight and arrange transfers between Andong and Hahoe. Is Hahoe the same as Jeonju? (Hanok village)—if so, I’ll skip Hahoe.
Last question: In the south, there are lots of sites that interest me, but I’m wondering about transportation. Can I stay in one place for several days and do day trips to each site? Is that possible with buses?

Road network conditions in Corsica

We’re planning a trip in May-June 2025.
Could you share your driving experiences on the main road network with a motorhome (our vehicle is 7.2 m long and 2.25 m wide)?
What basic route would you recommend for a tour of Corsica? We’re also planning to rent a small car locally to visit spots that are harder to access with the motorhome.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for reactivating my favorite forum, which has given me so many ideas for my trips since... 2008—it’s been ages, as they say!
So, to celebrate its return, I’m sharing this little travel journal from our latest road trip, not too long ago, since it was Corsica in the autumn.
Autumn is the ideal season to visit Corsica: fewer tourists, perfect temperatures around 25°C, and, most importantly, less stress on the roads. You can feel it everywhere. Servers and shopkeepers are more relaxed and have time to chat (yes, Corsicans do talk... but not all of them!)
09/24 Arrival in Erbalunga Whether you're from northern France or Belgium, like us, the easiest way to reach the Isle of Beauty is by flying from Lille-Lesquin Airport. Volotea offers two destinations: Bastia and Ajaccio. Be careful, though—while the ticket prices are attractive, the airline makes up for it with baggage fees. A 25kg suitcase for 212 €—that really drives up the cost of transportation! For us, it’ll be Bastia. After this short flight and an arrival that lets you clearly see the east coast of Cap Corse, we’re welcomed by our friend Jean-Claude, who’s kindly hosting us for a few days. We met this Corsican and his wife during our four-year stay in French Guiana, and I have to say, he completely changed my opinion of Corsicans and even made me want to visit his island. The house, clinging to the rock above the sea, is stunning and offers a breathtaking view of the island of Elba. I’d always heard of Elba but must admit I wouldn’t have known where to place it before. We’ll stay here for five nights, long enough to explore the north of the island.
Since we’ve just arrived, Jean-Claude wants to show us his village, ERLALUNGA, a quiet little port, and the small village of CASTELLO above it, where he spent a lot of time in his childhood...

We met this Corsican and his wife during our four-year stay in French Guiana, and I have to say, he completely changed my opinion of Corsicans and even made me want to visit his island. The house, clinging to the rock above the sea, is stunning and offers a breathtaking view of the island of Elba. I’d always heard of Elba but must admit I wouldn’t have known where to place it before. We’ll stay here for five nights, long enough to explore the north of the island.

nous partons 15 jours en corse du 10/10 au 23/10. la 1ere semaine j'ai réservé un logement à L'ile rousse afin de rayonner dans le nord.
Nous ne sommes pas des randonneurs, nous aimons nous balader dans des petits villages, découvrir de beaux paysages. Et comme nous y serons en octobre je ne pense pas que l'on ira à la plage se baigner.
J'hésite pour la 2ème semaine dans le sud. j'ai vu un logement sur Ventiseri. Qu'en pensez vous ? que me conseillez vous ?

Je connais le coin d'Ajaccio et de Calvi. Quels coins me conseillerez vous tout en sachant que je ne conduits pas ? Je compte passer une journée ou 2 à St Florent, mais le reste du temps je ne sais pas trop.

Location de voiture à Porto Vecchio English translation pending
Je m'apprête enfin à partir en vacances à l'île de beauté. J'arrive à Porto Vecchio en Ferry depuis Marseille et je compte visiter la corse du sud après quelques nuits passées à Porto.
Au moment où je regarde les locations de voitures, je trouve que la restitution se fait uniquement à l'aeroport de Figari.
Est-ce que quelqu'un pourrait me renseigner s'il y a d'autres agences de location dans Porto elle-même? ou si vous avez d'autres tuyaux je suis preneuse; location entre particuliers, d'autres agences etc...

Petites randonnées en Corse juin 2020 English translation pending
Bonjour à tous,Encore un p'tit carnet sur la Corse, où nous sommes allés mi-juin dans des conditions qui ne se reproduiront sans doute jamais : météo parfaite et pas un chat!
Pour une fois, je ne donne pas beaucoup de détails pratiques (mais tout de même les traces wikiloc) très faciles à trouver en quelques clics.
Le but premier du voyage était d'apporter quelques affaires à notre fille Marion mais sevrés de voyages depuis l'irruption d'un certain virus nous en avons profité pour randonner un peu.

Corse Juin 2020 Petite virée en Corse, où vit désormais notre fille Marion. Voyage reporté 2 fois en raison de la Covid 19…
Finalement nous partons en fourgon car nous avons pas mal de fourbi en plus des chiens. Mi-juin, la limitation des 100 km est enfin levée et après avoir une traversée très tranquille au départ de Toulon, nous débarquons de bonne heure à Ajaccio : au programme, bricolage et randonnées !
Les chiens nous accompagnent, Corsica Ferries propose des cabines « spéciales chiens » sans moquette. Plein de chiens sur ce bateau, tous très pacifiques…Malheureusement le pont supérieur où un espace leur serait réservé est fermé. Environ 14h de voyage (en comptant les temps d’embarquement/débarquement), les vessies ont tenu le choc ! Tous les passagers sont masqués et ravis de retrouver un peu de liberté !
DI 14/06/20 Arrivée en Corse L’air est doux, le ciel est pur (gros orage et grosses inondations quelques jours avant notre arrivée), la météo s’annonce idéale pour la semaine à venir. Je craignais la chaleur en Juin, mais finalement nous n’aurons jamais plus de 24°C en bord de mer, supportable donc… Retrouvailles et bricolage, puis nous faisons une petite balade vespérale vers l’anse de Minaccia. Pas la foule pour un dimanche…
LU 15/06/20 Lac de Melo Marion et Yoan se sont libérés pour nous accompagner et leur aide sera indispensable pour pousser/hisser/tirer les chiens (30 et 40 kg) qui eurent bien du mal à franchir 2 ressauts équipés d’échelles verticales (le 1er se franchit facilement par la droite et le 2ème par la gauche, c’est plus scabreux). Tout est très vert, très fleuri, on se régale. On bulle un long moment près du lac (les chiens plus tout jeunes sont crevés tellement ils ont été crispés par ce franchissement) tandis que les jeunes grimpent plus haut dans la montagne. Nous redescendons en rive droite de la cascade (sans échelle !) MA 16/06/20 Bergeries des Pozzi Départ avec Marion de la station de Val D’Eze : on longe d’abord un tire-fesse (pas glop) puis la balade devient magnifique ! Quelques vaches et chevaux nous accueillent en haut de la grimpette. Vue sur le village de Bastelica et au fond sur la baie d’Ajaccio. On longe une très jolie crête et au bout de celle-ci on découvre d’un coup le vallon et ses pozzines. On adore ce type de paysage, les chiens aussi ! On passe ensuite à proximité de la bergerie avant de traverser une grande forêt de hêtres tortueux sillonnée de quelques ruisseaux : parfait pour les chiens ! Marion rentre sur Ajaccio (elle travaille demain) tandis que nous allons au départ de la rando prévue demain, au-dessus de Soccia.
ME 17/06/20 Lac de Creno Nous avons dormi sur le parking (désert) en dessous du petit resto situé au départ de cette randonnée. Itoo a encore trouvé quelques forces pour jouer avec le p’tit chien du coin. Nous partons de bonne heure (fraicheur, belle lumière, personne) sur un joli sentier fleuri. C’est tellement vert qu’on se croirait en Ecosse ! Nous voici au seul lac boisé de Corse, certains pins sont énormes ! Très belle vue sur les montagnes qui cernent le lac de Melo où nous étions avant-hier. On monte ensuite vers la Chapelle San’t Eliseu dans un sous-bois profondément labouré par les sangliers (le mieux est de monter par la crête qui commence juste derrière la maison forestière, il n’y a pas vraiment de sentier…ou nous ne l’avons pas trouvé) Vue à 360° magnifiée par les nuages ! Nous descendons ensuite par une crête si joliment fleurie qu’on se croirait dans un jardin. Déjeuner au resto du parking, quasi désert : les locaux se lamentent, nous compatissons mais jubilons intérieurement d’avoir les chemins de randonnée presque pour nous tous seuls. Autre avantage, service rapide et très aimable : nous qui n’allons que très rarement au restaurant en vacances car nous n’aimons pas attendre des plombes le bon vouloir d’un service débordé allons changer nos habitudes. Au moins pendant qq jours !
Gorges de Spelunca Nous reprenons la route vers les Gorges de Spelunca, qui m’ont un peu déçue. La route d’approche par l’est est très belle mais les gorges m’ont semblé assez banales. Nous longeons la rivière (que l’on voit finalement assez peu du fait de la végétation) en aller-retour jusqu’au vieux pont. Fin de journée au départ de la rando du lendemain, près des calanques de Piana et du Capo Rosso.
JE 18/06/20 Capo Rosso On démarre de bonne heure car je crains la chaleur au niveau de la mer. Belle vue vers la côte et ses tours génoises. On aperçoit le parking. Plus on descend, plus il fait chaud et plus je pense à la remontée…je m’inquiète pour les chiens qui tirent déjà la langue. Calanches de Piana On enchaîne avec une petite balade dans les Calanches de Piana, sur le Chemin du Château Fort : la lumière est dure et blanche, il est midi… https://fr.wikiloc.com/itineraires-randonnee/piana-18-juin-56206514 Pause resto sur la plage de Busaglia, où nous sommes encore une fois les seuls clients : service attentionné, les chiens ont eu chacun une gamelle d’eau !
Vallée du Fango On décide ensuite de pousser jusqu’à la vallée du Fango, pour les rafraichir un peu. Très joli coin, qui doit être habituellement bondé à en juger par les panneaux d’interdiction de stationner et la taille des parkings : on a vu en tout 4 personnes ! VE 19/06/20 Scandola Départ de Porto à 10h, le bateau de Via Mare est plein à 10%, c’est cool ! (pour nous…) J’avais d’abord contacté le Passe Partout qui nous avait gentiment conseillé de prendre un bateau plus grand pour le confort des chiens car il y a un peu de houle : sympa ! (Marion et Yoan ont fait le tour avec eux qq jours plus tard et ça leur a bien plu) Il fonce vers la réserve de Scandola, puis navigue pendant quelques dizaines de minutes en rasant les roches volcaniques : 2 nids de balbuzards ( ?) vides, très peu d’oiseaux. Mais de jolies couleurs et des commentaires intéressants. Petite pause au retour au village de Girolata (pas d’accès routier) avec une petite baignade pour les chiens -à bonne distance des vaches ! Tour sympa et reposant ! Retour sur Porto en milieu de journée puis sur Ajaccio.
SA 20/06/20 Pointe de la Parata Nous reprenons le ferry ce soir. Petite balade de l’Anse de Minaccia jusqu’à la pointe de la Parata, personne sur cette rando non plus (on est à 20 mn d’Ajaccio un samedi !) https://fr.wikiloc.com/itineraires-randonnee/la-parata-20-juin-56206489 Parking immense quasi vide. Quelques personnes tout de même près de la pointe, il faut dire que la vue sur les îles Sanguinaires est magnifique ! Bon déjeuner à la brasserie de la pointe (à nous 4 on double l’effectif des clients !) Appareillage vers 20h00, alors que le soleil descend sur l’horizon… Quel plaisir de naviguer de nuit et d’arriver frais et dispo le lendemain matin !
