Je possède un 508D depuis maintenant 8 ans. Il est superbe... je l'adore, mais ayant des petits bras, j'aimerais lui instaler une direction assistée. Ce qui existe en option sur ce modèle mais manque de chance...pas sur le mien. Quel que soit notre age ou notre génération, il y a des chansons qui nous touchent au coin de l'enfance, si vous voyez ce que je veux dire... Ces airs peuvent aussi bien dater de "ce bon vieux temps" ou bien surgir d'une radio avec une musique ou bien deux ou trois phrases qui vous serrent la gorge alors qu'on saute dans sa voiture en sortant d'un rendez-vous...

Je suis actuellement sur Montréal ou je compte encore profiter de la vie jusqu'en janvier 2004. Apres, je pars en direction du Pérou puis du Chili. Je n'ai que peu d'idées de ce que je veux voir (à trop programmer, je trouve qu'on devient esclave de son programme) si ce n'est 2 incontournables à mes yeux: Le Huascaran et donc la région de la Cordillière Blanche au Pérou et la Parc Tores Del Pene en Patagonie, 5000km plus au sud.

Je part accompagné de mon sac à dos, sans connaitre un mot d'espagnol et mon budget m'impose, une fois sur place, le bus et les auberges les moins chères...

Donc voila j'aurais aimé avoir quelques idées de lieux "incontournables" ainsi que quelques conseils pratiques, spécifiques à ces 2 pays ainsi que sur la spécifisité du voyage en solo. J'ai l'expérience de ce genre de voyage mais d'habitude j'ai d'autres compagnons que mon seul sac alors...quelques trucs et astuces me seraient bien utiles.

Je viens d'ouvrir un dossier pour faire mon service volontaire européen (SVE) en espagne, je viens de trouver une association qui me demande 1000 euros pour partir 14 mois au costa rica pour m'occuper des tortues Baulas et j'ai pour propoger depuis longtemps de partir minimum 6 mois en asie et plus particulierement au tibet et en mongolie mais le nepal et la chine m'intersse aussi.

Je pars au Méxique puis Guatemala en Juillet/août 2003 pour une durée de 4 ou 5 semaines. Si des personnes veulent se joindre à mon périple opu simplement me donner des renseignements...n'hésitez pas. Je n'ai pas d'itinéraire précis. Je pars dans le seul but de connaître une culture que j'adore et de découvrir des sites et paysages qui me font rêver depuis tout petit... J'attends vos messages.

Nous désirons partir en juillet-août 2003 au Myanmar en amenant avec nous nos vélos.

Nous avons déjà voyagé de cette façon à Madagascar, Cuba et en Indonésie.

Je compte faire Katmandu - Hanoi en passant par le tibet et le yunnan l'été prochain. seulement voilà: j'ais à pène deux mois, et ça me parrais un peut cours pour faire tous ça ! (même si je ne compte pas resté plus de quelques jours au Népal)

Alors je me demande se que vous en pensez. Je me pose aussi plein de question pratique, en vrac: Quelle langue parle on au tibet ? mandarin, cantonais ou... que tibetain 🙁 Pour se qui est des langues dans le yunnan, c'est cantonais ? et au vietnam ? l'anglais sufit t-il ? Comment avoir des devises chinoises en arivant par le tibet ? C'est sans doute facile a lhassa, mais c'est tres loin de la frontière, comment fait on avant ? Passe t'on facilement les frontières ? ça va je crois, non ?

Et surtout, quel sont les conseils, bon plan a faire ou a voir qui ne sont pas marqué dans la plusparts des guides touristiques ! (et tous se que j'ais oublier de demander 🙂)

Pour les billets d'avions, c'est moi ou c'est déjà tous complet pour le retour d'Hanoi ? Y-a d'autre ville dans le coin (ou plus près du tibet) qui possède un aéroport international ?

After a road trip in Quebec in 2025, we’re looking for a destination this year (around September 20th to October 10th) where we can settle in 2 or 3 spots and explore the area without having to drive 200 km every day to see something. I’ve had my eye on northeastern Spain for a while, and I thought of the Basque Country and its hinterland (Rioja? Navarre?) to avoid too many kilometers from Belgium. Bilbao and San Sebastián seem like must-sees, and beyond that, we love the vibe of small ports, medieval old towns (like Onati), hiking in beautiful landscapes, and cycling on greenways. I also spotted the Bardenas Reales, but it might be too far from a home base—unless we make it an extra stop... Based on this, can you recommend where it’d be interesting to set up base? We’re making a family dream come true: spending a month in Brazil from July 19 to August 20. We’ll land in Rio and spend 6 days there (we’ve finalized a home exchange for a lovely apartment in the Copacabana neighborhood). After that, we’re heading to Minas Gerais by rental car for 11 days (Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and the Inhotim Institute), then the Costa Verde, and finally 2 days in São Paulo.

We’ll be traveling with our three kids, ages 17, 14, and 9, who are real travelers and good hikers. Goes hand in hand, right? 😄

For now, we’ve planned to visit Ilha Grande (4 days) and then Paraty and its surroundings (3 days). What do you think? Ilha Grande appealed to us for its hikes and beaches, but couldn’t we do that along Paraty’s coast? I’ve read mixed reviews about Ilha Grande...

We’re heading to Uganda next summer for three weeks with our two kids, who’ll be 7 and 9 years old. We’ve been to Southern Africa before but not East Africa, and after a trip to South Africa two years ago, the kids wanted to return to Africa, while we wanted to explore a new region while staying independent... Uganda’s been catching our eye for a while, and with Rwandair offering relatively attractive prices, we’re going for it!

We’ll be traveling in a 4x4 (self-drive) with roof tents. I don’t have any 4x4 driving experience, so it’ll be a first for me, but we’ll manage 😉 No great apes for us—kids need to be 15, and we don’t want to do that experience without them.

I don’t usually ask the forum much for trip planning, but this time, I’d love your thoughts and advice!

First question: Karamoja or not? At first glance, if we want to add it to a "classic" loop in the southwest, it doesn’t seem realistic—too packed, too much driving. We could consider doing the full loop via Kidepo and then heading down to Murchison, but I’m worried the trip might feel less varied and less kid-friendly. That said, the region looks stunning, and I’m struggling to accept not going at all... What do you think?

If we skip Karamoja, we’d do a loop: Murchison/Fort Portal/QENP/Bunyonyi/Mburo, which seems pretty comprehensive and would let us take our time, which is nice. A few random questions: - How much time should we plan for the Fort Portal area? I was thinking at least 3 days to visit Bigodi Swamp, walk around the craters, and maybe do a community walk (any thoughts on that?). - Between Murchison Falls and the Fort Portal area, is it worth breaking up the drive? I spotted Lake Albert Safari Lodge on the shores of Lake Albert—it’s not too expensive and looks nice. - I’d love to do some easy walks/hikes at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, ideally without a guide, but it doesn’t seem straightforward. Do you know if it’s possible to do nice walks independently? I’ve read about hikes in the hills near Kilembe but nothing very specific. Maybe staying somewhere at the foot of the mountains, like Ruboni Community Camp, would allow that. - Lake Mutanda looks really cool, and so does Lake Bunyonyi... Ideally, I’d like to see both, but won’t that feel repetitive? Is Lake Mutanda worth the detour?

Last practical question, since we don’t have experience with this: for the car with kids, would you recommend two tents (a bit more space) or a four-person tent?

We’re heading to Thailand with our four kids (ages 18, 17, 12, and 10) from August 3rd to 15th, 2026. I’ve been there twice before, but that was over 20 years ago, so I’m completely out of the loop !

We arrive in Bangkok on the morning of the 3rd and leave on the evening of the 15th.

Here’s our rough itinerary—I’d love your thoughts: 1 night in Bangkok on the 3rd (with a little sightseeing during the day), then the Grand Palace, reclining Buddha, and a floating market on the 4th. On the evening of the 4th, we take an overnight train to Chiang Mai. We’ll stay in Chiang Mai from the 5th to the 8th. On the evening of the 8th, we take an overnight train back to Bangkok. On the morning of the 9th, we head to Koh Samui. We’ll stay there from the 9th to the 12th, then return to Bangkok on the 13th. We’ll spend the afternoon of the 13th, the 14th, and the 15th in Bangkok before flying back to France 🙁.

So here are my questions: - Do you think this "itinerary is doable"? - Do you think it’s necessary to travel first class, or is second class with Air Co sufficient for the Bangkok to Chiang Mai trip? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Chiang Mai? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Bangkok? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Koh Samui?

Hi there! After a wonderful trip in 2024, we’ll be heading back to Japan at the end of July 2026 to reunite with our daughter, who will have been there for a few months.

Last time, we did a route: Tokyo – Japanese Alps – Kyoto – Osaka – Hiroshima. This time, we’ll have 10 days to ourselves before our daughter joins us for a full week. We’re thinking of spending 2 days in Tokyo and 1 day at the end of the trip for shopping.

We’re looking for ideas for a route (by train and bus) that’s a little off the beaten path, especially avoiding the most touristy spots like the best-known temples in Kyoto. Our favorite spots in 2024: Kanazawa, Takayama, and Miyajima Island. We love temples, gardens, and would love to explore the nature, which looks incredible.

A travel journal—it’s been a while!

I must say, my personal situation has "changed a bit" since my last journals (my 3 kids are grown up + a divorce finalized in early 2021). So, no more long-haul family trips; now I’m focusing on multi-day hikes for my vacations. I found a hiking buddy in 2021 to join me on the Laugavegur trek in Iceland, but this year, no one was available.

That’s how the idea of a solo trek in Lapland took root—a region I’ve been dreaming about ever since I read Marie Lefevre’s 2012 journal on the topic.

Marie, who I hiked with for the first time in 2015 during my very first multi-day trek, and whom I can never thank enough for sharing her knowledge and saving me so much time.

To build my confidence for this solo trek, I hiked around Cantal in May (okay, I’m capable of spending nights alone in the middle of nowhere without being overly terrified) and camped in the Mercantour in July, where a massive storm made me realize I still had room for improvement in managing wet conditions...

After some research, I bought 2 Nylofume bags—large, ultra-lightweight ones to protect my gear in my backpack—and a set of 4 Aloksak bags in different sizes for my passport, camera, battery, etc. (and I’m so glad I did!!)

Well, I think I’m all set...

With the kids getting older, I’ve finally decided to head somewhere a bit more exotic than our usual (and wonderful) Brittany. We’ve chosen to visit Austria and Slovenia, with a little detour through Zagreb. We’ll be spending a day there, and I’d love to make sure we don’t miss anything. Hi there, I’m looking for info on whether it’s feasible to travel the Pangalanes Canal by boat from Toamasina to Manakara. I know the canal is poorly maintained with some sections that aren’t navigable. This is my 5th trip to Madagascar. Thanks for any tips!

Hi everyone, I’m not sure if you can help us out. We’ll be in Venice from June 8th to 17th. We arrive at the airport on the 8th and planned to take the Alilaguna waterbus to St. Mark’s Square to get to our Airbnb. We’ve estimated arriving at St. Mark’s Square between 11 AM and 12 PM. We didn’t realize we’d be arriving on the day of the race.

Because of the Vogalonga race taking place on June 8th, is the Grand Canal still navigable? If not, from what time will it be accessible again?
