Hi, I’m looking for a solution for my flight—I’ll explain my situation.

I live in the French overseas territories, so I have a flight from St. Martin to Orly. Early September is cyclone season. If there’s an alert or cyclone, my flight could be postponed.

I’m considering connecting with a flight from CDG to Bangkok. I’d have to buy my second flight as open-ended, otherwise I’d lose it—it’s not the same airline. I found a good price on Oman Air, Economy Comfort option. Change fees are only 20 OMR—basically nothing. Then there’s the option for a paid upgrade: would that mean the price gets adjusted on the day of the flight?

If I’ve made myself clear, do you have any other solutions? Please—thanks!

Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

We’re leaving Zurich on Sunday, February 23rd, heading to Bangkok, and we’ll land on February 24th at 12 PM local time.

We’ll be there for 3 full days and then leave on the 28th for the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.

I had a question about our domestic flight with Bangkok Airways at Suvarnabhumi Airport—our flight is at 6:00 AM. Our tickets say check-in closes 40 minutes before for domestic flights.

I’m looking for the best way to get to the airport from our hotel. Should we be there 2 hours early, and if so, what’s the safest and most convenient transport option? Some lines, like the ARL, only start at 6 AM if I’m not mistaken, so that might be cutting it too close. Our hotel is near Makkasan Station. Should we book a taxi with Bolt, or go through the hotel to arrange one for more reliability (even if it’s pricier)? Thanks for your advice.

Also, I’d love to hear your 3-day itinerary suggestions. I’m traveling with my wife and our two daughters, aged 9. We’re used to walking, but we’d rather focus on specific areas to avoid wasting time on transport or trying to do too much. We want to enjoy the moments instead of rushing around.

I’d like to arrive the same morning from Phuket on a flight that lands at 8:55 AM. We don’t want to stay in BKK anymore (we’ve been there many times over the past 35 years), and someone mentioned Kanchanaburi. Is it worth it? Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

Here’s the itinerary I’ve planned for this new trip to Thailand:

Arrival – 2 nights in Bangkok (any hotel recommendations? Very quiet, near Chinatown or by the river)

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)

Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Ko Kho Khao – 3 nights – relaxation (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Phang Nga Bay – 1 night (any base recommendations?)

Excursion in the bay, then drive to Krabi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations) or any other spot with beautiful, quiet beaches that you might know?

Return to Surat Thani – overnight train to Bangkok, then Ayutthaya (any hotel recommendations?)

Visit the site and transfer to the airport – sniff, time to head back!

If you have other suggestions, keeping in mind the trip’s vibe: beach time without crowds or entertainment, a bit of nature, a bit of culture, no stress... No domestic flights and charming accommodations (not at 150 € per night, even though the budget is reasonable!)

Not sure I’ll follow them all, but all your ideas are welcome! 😉

Bonjour, En date du 2 janvier 2020, j'ai acheté un billet Lux-Bkk retour sur le site de la TurkishAirlines. Le départ était fixé au 1er avril 2020 avec retour le 19 avril. En raison des risques d'annulations de vols massifs, en date du 19 mars 2020, j'ai contacté le call canter de la Turkish à BXl afin d'annuler mon vol et en demander le remboursement. TurkishAirlines a accepté de suite de m'a confirmé par courriel que le vol était bien annulé et que le montant avait bien été crédité sur ma carte AMEX utilisée pour la réservation. Un numéro de référence de remboursement m'avait été communiqué. Le 20 avril, TurkishAirlines me confirmait à nouveau avoir remboursé le montant du vol (844,35 EUR + 166,76 EUR pour les sièges préférentiels, soit un total de 1.011,11 EUR. 70 jours après, aucun remboursement n'a été effectué. Après vérification faites auprès de AmericanExpress qui m'a confirmé qu'aucun remboursement n'avait été effectué, J'ai contacté la TurkishAirlines en laissant un feed-back sur leur site Internet et ils vient de m'apprendre que, selon les règlements de l'aviation civile, le billet me serait remboursé 60 jours après que les vols auraient repris de façon régulière. La TurkishAirlines m'a menti et a abusé de ma confiance (je suis membre ELITE Gold) en me confirmant a deux reprises que le montant avait été crédité en date du 19 mars 2020. Je sais que, d'après le règlement européen, la compagnie aérienne doit rembourser endéans les 7 jours. Ce que j'ai signalé à la TurkishAirline sen leur faisant une mise en demeure de remboursement. Je trouve cette attitude scandaleuse... Que pouvez-vous me conseiller ? Merci pour votre aide et vos conseils. Patric

Bonjour à tous, Je profite de ce confinement pour faire le livre-photo de la ThaÏlande. Je suis tombée sur une photo mais je n'ai aucune idée de ce que ça peut être. J'imagine que ça se mange mais ça se trouve pas du tout ! Est-ce que qqu peut éclairer ma lanterne ? Mon voyage date de 2009 (sic!) et on a du mal à se rappeler de tout ( si on l'a su un jour !).

Qui est à Bangkok en ce moment pour témoigner un peu de l’ambiance sur place et notamment là où habituellement il y a beaucoup de monde et d’animations comme kao san road ou sukhumvit ? Je suis actuellement à KohNgai et il n’y a pratiquement personne, c’est à la fois agréable et inquiétant sans parler de la perte économique pour ceux qui vivent du tourisme. En théorie.... je rejoins Bangkok le 26 mars pour repartir à Paris avec la Qatar mais d’ici là....qui sait ?.?

La pollution de Bangkok étant catastrophique depuis septembre, il est à craindre que çà continue. Je cherche un ou plusieurs endroits non pollués où passer une semaine ou deux fin février en bord de mer. Les conseils pour des hébergements agréables seront les bienvenus. Pas Ko Sukorn, ni Prachuap Khiri Khan, nous les apprecions mais nous en sortons. Merci davance aux fins connaisseurs du PDS.

Je pars fin mai, début juin pour un combiné Bangkok + plage, Phuket à priori. Plus facile pour nous pour les avions et rapport au budget également.

Je pars avec mon compagnon qui est du genre... stressé ! Il n'aime pas trop partir dans l'inconnu, ni les choses qui ne sont pas organisées, alors que moi, je partirais bien juste comme ça ! Prendre les billets d'avion et voir sur place !

Je suis déjà partie il y a 4 ans à Bangkok mais je n'avais eu que 24h et tout avait été fait très vite et surtout très mal ! Surtout avec le décalage horaire dans les dents ! Alors j'aimerais organiser les choses mieux pour les visites pour ne pas passer à côté de l'essentiel.

J'aurais donc besoin de conseils pour : - Situation de l'hôtel à Bangkok - Petit déjeuner à l'hôtel ou pas ? (Sachant que chéri stressé) - Attrape touriste à éviter ? - Attrape touriste qu'on en peut éviter ? - Comment se déplacer dans Bangkok ? - Ne pas tomber dans une arnaque ? - J'hésite à emprunter un tuk-tuk ? Je voudrais le faire 1x pour lui montrer mais je ne veux pas me faire (trop) arnaquer non plus... (mais je pense qu'il faudra bien que ça arrive ! ). - Aller à Koa San Road ou pas ? Je l'avais fait il y a 4 ans. - Un rooftop à conseiller pour une chouette vue sur Bangkok ? - Des petits trucs insolites à voir, à faire ? - Un endroit au top pour des massages ?

Bonjour, J'ai presque honte de decrire à quel point nous nous sommes fait arnaquer en transfert Bus de Bangkok à Siam reap. Je fais cette publication car nous avons été une trentaine de personnes à subir cette arnaque. Nous avons pris un bus par l'intermédiaire de sriram. Jusqu'à la frontiere ok. Puis avant la frontiere le bus a tourné et s'est arrété devant un restaurant. on nous a fait descendre et 3 personnes (dont à priori le responsable du restaurant) nous ont fait asseoir par petits groupes. ils nous ont expliqué qu'ils allaient s'occuper de nos visas (tarif 1500 baths par personne). J 'ai protesté, on m'a repondu que si je n'étais pas content, je partais à pied; 3/4 d'heures plus tard, nous avions nos visas. Nous sommes ensuite partis vers la frontiere (à pied), l'équipe de 3 personnes nous a arreté pres d'une banque. Un des 3 nous a longuement expliqué quau cambodge (contrairement à ce que disent les guides), il fallait utiliser le Riel et non le Dollar. il nous a donc indiqué qu'il fallai changer immédiatement nos Euros ou nos Dollards en Baths, car d'après lui, il n'y avait pas de frais de change entre les Baths et les Riel. Etonnement, nous avons tous fait ce qu'il nous preconisait. Ils nous ont ensuite guidé pour passer les frontieres, et sont repartis avec nous dans le bus. quelques kilometres plus loin, le bus s'est arreté devant un supposé bureau de change et les "guides" ont accompagné chacun d'entre nous en nous incitant à changer nos Baths en Riel à un taux complètement fou de 100 Riels pour 1 Bath. Quand j'ai demandé à la dame derriere le guichet, quel était le taux, elle a refusé de répondre et m'a indiqué le "guide". Les guides nous pressaient et nous disaient qu'il n'y avait pas besoin de justificatif; Tout le monde est remonté dans le bus. Nous nous sommes nous même fait escroqué de 120€.

Pour terminer, à l'arriver à Siam Reap, (de nuit) une personne monte dans le bus et remet à chacun un badge en disant que le tuk qui nous emmene en centre ville est gratuit. Lorsque nous sommes installé, on nous explique que ce tuk nous mènera le lendemain à Angkor. Nous refusons et là on nous dit que dans ce cas, le tuk est payant (20000 Riels par personne). Nous négocions 20000 Riel pour le tuk. Nous apprenons à l hotel que le prix normal est de 10000.

Bienvenue au Cambodge......

Pour info, nous sommes des voyageurs chevronnés (au moins un voyage par an de 2 à 3 mois) plus de 10 fois l'Asie. Nous ne nous etions jamais fait arnaquer.
