bonjour à tous je viens de découvrir ce forum fort intéressant . Donc je pars pour les maldives la troisième semaine d'aout avec mon mari à Sun island. je crois qu'il est possible d'utiliser son portable en achetant une carte sim locale genre forfait à la carte ( on veut communiquer avec d'autres portables à moindre frais en thailande )mais peut on utiliser n'importe quel portable ou faut il un de recent ?

Nous préparons toujours notre périple avec 2 enfants en Malaisie pour cet été.

Le circuit (voiture de location) prévu est : Singapour, Malacca, KL (+ Batu Caves et lucioles), Cameron Highlands, Penang (peut-être), Kota Bahru, Perhentian et retour vers Singapour via côte Est (Kuantan, Sherating, ...).

Votre avis nous intéresse - surtout si votre voyage est récent - sur les étapes et les bons plans (hôtels (surtout sur Perhentian) - confort et tarifs, restos, visite, galères (?!)).

je vais certainement aller en république dominicaine pour 15 jours en mars (2de quinzaine) et ma fille et mon mari rêvent d'en voir!

j'ai réussi à trouver un excellent rapport qualité/prix : 900€/14 nuits chez croquevacances, à puerto plata... J'attends encore un peu, je pense qu'il y a encore de la place donc les prix devraient baisser, pour l'instant c'est encore les vacances,

bref, comment y êtes-vous allé et combien cela a-t-il coûté?

quel est le climat au mois de mars? y a t il des moustiques?

existe t-il des plages sécurisées et propres pour les enfants?

Une membre d’un autre forum a voulu par sa gentillesse, publier mon texte: El Senador Cayo Coco Cuba The True Story! afin d’informer les gens de mes observations et photos concernant mon récent voyage à l’hôtel El Senador. Cependant, au lieu d’être remercié de sa bonne attention, elle fut lapidée par quelques personnes pour qui, le El Senador est un sujet taboo. Bien sur que ces personnes ne sont jamais venues me faire part de leurs commentaires, mais s’en sont plutôt prises à une personne qui a voulu les aider. Comme je ne réussis pas à publier sur ce dit (autre) forum et que les administrateurs de cet autre site ne semblent pas se préoccuper de ses membres, n’ayant reçu aucune nouvelle d'eux après deux demandes d’aide, je vais le faire ici, sachant que plusieurs sont aussi membre de celui-ci.

Certains diront que je perds mon temps et vous avez raison dans un sens, celui de répondre spécialement à une personne qui semble avoir beaucoup plus un problème de comportement que de compréhension, mais il n’en demeure pas moins, qu’elle influence des voyageurs sérieux au point ou ils ne savent plus quoi pensé. Donc, afin de bien renseigner ces futurs voyageurs qui prennent au sérieux les observations des autres je me dois d’y faire précision.

Son manque de compréhension se porte sur un ‘balcon’, SVP ne riez pas! Pour cette dame, lorsque je prends la photo B j’ai vu sur l’arrière du complexe. Voici sa déclaration:

Ce sont plutôt ses premières photos de la supposée vue qu'il avait de son supposé balcon..en fait ce sont des photos du derrière de son complexe de chambres et non du devant.

Comme cette dame dit y avoir été ??? je comprend mal, comme beaucoup d’autres d’ailleurs, son observation. Donc, à l’arrière du ‘complexe de chambres’ (bloc 20) nous n’avions seulement qu’une grande fenêtre avec une vue sur la cour et des arbres qui obstruaient en partie, la vue sur la piscine pour adulte et aucune porte, ni même une échelle. Par contre pour entrer dans notre chambre nous devions emprunter un balcon et habituellement c’est à l’avant d’un bâtiment !!! (définition du mot balcon dans Réponse au forum des Branchez-vous de Serge l'auteur du: El Senador The True Story) pour la madame.

Je vous inclus 2 photos madame Moon afin de vous aider. Comme vous pourrez voir nous sommes sur un BALCON et il y a une porte à gauche de la photo, c’est la seule porte pour entrer dans la chambre (pas la mienne) et le contracteur l’a placé à l’AVANT. La première (photo A) est prise en direction (pour ne pas vous mélanger, plaçons le Nord lorsque je débarre la porte) donc, en direction Est, puis la photo B a été prise si je tourne de 90 degré vers le Sud (vers la droite) sans changer de place. Ma chambre est maintenant derrière moi à la photo B.

En terminant, si vous avez vu des balcons à l’arrière des complexes de chambres, il ne suffit que de tourner la brochure publicitaire dans l’autre sens.

Soyez bien à l’aise Madame Moon (Michèle) de me contacter à mon adresse courriel si jamais, encore plus de précision serait nécessaire. Vous comprendrez, afin j’espère, que les autres membres s’intéressent aux voyages plus qu’à vos continuelles contestations.

Je termine la rédaction d'un livre sur les voyages et j'ai besoin de faire quelques entrevues (par courriel ou par téléphone) avec des Québécois qui ont travaillé sur des bateaux de croisières ou à Disneyland Paris, histoire de présenter une vision globale des conditions de travail et proposer quelques ressources aux gens qui rêvent de faire de même.

Je veux donc savoir comment ils ont déniché leur emploi, leur âge, ce qu'ils faisaient comme boulot au juste, quand ils ont vécu cette expérience, le nom de la (ou des) compagnie(s) pour laquelle (ou lesquelles) ils ont travaillé (dans le cas des bateaux de croisières), quelles étaient leurs conditions (horaire, nombre d'heures/semaine, salaire, durée du contrat...) et, surtout, savoir s'ils sont satisfaits de leur expérience et ce qu'ils retiennent de tout ça. Jusqu'a présent j'ai voyagé en couple sans trop me soucier du confort des hôtels, des moyens de transport, et encore moins du poid de mon sac à trimbaler. J'ai maintenant un petit garçon et lors d'un récent voyage au Canada où nous avions loué une voiture, nous avons commencé à nous dire que voyager avec une voiture c'est bien mais avec un camping car ça pourrai être mieux. Plus besoin de chercher un hôtel, plus besoin trimbaler les affaires du petit, etc... Notre petit garçon ne vas pas encore à l'école ce qui nous permettrai d'éviter les grosses chaleur d'été pour visiter le Maroc. N'ayant aucune expérience de voyage en camping car, je suis à la recherche d'infos et conseils en tout genre, pouvant m'aider à bien préparer ce voyage avec ma famille. I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient). But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)

That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.

In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.

I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...

Could you give me a recent opinion on this? We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?

I briefly set out to tally things up, having asked myself the same question, and here are some figures and my thoughts on the travel journals that have seen the greatest success over more than 22 years—the first one was posted on 04/17/2003.

Before sharing the TOP 25, I notice that the United States of America seems to have sparked the most interest among readers: 11 out of the 25 most read. The American dream is still very much alive. With passionate travelers, too, since there are often many participants (quite chatty ones), which significantly boosts the number of views. Since VF was hosted in Canada, maybe there’s also a fair number of Canadian readers adding to that?

Asia comes in second with 8 journals, confirming the appeal of these destinations. We also see 4 Europe-related journals in this best-of.

The numbers are undeniable, but they should be put into perspective. For example: - A journal published a long time ago has a better chance of being widely read than a more recent one. - A journal published all at once will get fewer visitors than one published over 30 days, recounting a month-long trip. - Some journals have renewed readability because their author or readers add information or comments.

You could also say that a journal with 5,000 views about Ireland or Iceland, for instance, doesn’t fall short compared to those about a more popular destination like the U.S., which might have tens of thousands of views.

Personally, I regret the absence from the ranking of journals I admired—both very well-written and featuring stunning photos. On the other hand, the presence of some journals in the most-read list is quite puzzling to me.

Three distinct periods stand out: - The 2000s. It took some time for the site to become known and for word-of-mouth to spread. Back then, some people, especially older travelers (who are more likely to both travel and publish journals on VF), didn’t even have internet yet. Plus, many journals from that era had few or no photos, which doesn’t attract some readers. - The early 2010s. There was probably a peak, an optimal moment, with the site being more well-known and visible, and a generation of travelers ready to share and help. With few exceptions, all the most-read journals date from 2006 to 2016. - From the late 2010s onward, there may have been a turning point. Fewer people enjoying (or knowing how to) read, more people moving to various social media platforms for their immediacy and ease?

I’m not unhappy to be in 26th place with my 2013 journal about a part of southern Thailand. I owe it largely to the photos of the adorable langur monkeys and the messages from all those who went to see them thanks to me. Those were good times that will be hard to relive.
