Travelling to Ethiopia by Land

Ethiopia shares a border with Djibouti (349 km), Eritrea (912 km), Kenya (861 km), Somalia (1,600 km) and Sudan (1,606 km). Most of these border areas (particularly the Somali one) are not necessarily considered safe.

To/from Eritrea

After more than twenty years of closure due to conflict between the two countries, the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea reopened at two points in 2018, but in principle only for nationals of the two countries and not for foreigners. It may therefore be useful to check the current situation.
