Getting to Marrakech by Land

Marrakech is very well served by public transport. Its bus station is located in the Bab Doukala district (along Boulevard du 11 Janvier), about 2 km from Jemaa el-Fna or the train station. As for shared taxis, their departure point is right next to the bus station.

Main Routes

Beyond shared taxis, several operators provide bus connections from the city. Among them, CTM and Supratours (a subsidiary of ONCF) are the two best known, with their extensive networks and comfortable buses.

• Agadir: Numerous daily departures for at least 4 hours of travel and around a hundred dirhams (approx. 9 €).

• Casablanca:

• Essaouira: 3 hours of travel, 70 Dh (approx. 6 €), and around fifteen buses per day.

• Ouarzazate: Plenty of shuttles between the two cities. 4 hours of travel and 80 Dh (around 7 €).

• Taroudant:

While awaiting the extension of the (high-speed) line to Agadir, Marrakech is the terminus of the Casablanca–Marrakech rail link operated by ONCF. The city’s train station is located in the Guéliz district on Avenue Hassan II, about 3 km from Jemaa el-Fna.

Main Routes

• Casablanca: Around ten daily departures for a 3-hour journey and 90 Dh (approx. 8.5 €). Note that Casablanca Airport is located on the line.

• Other destinations: Several northern cities are accessible by train from Marrakech, though most require a change (primarily) in Casablanca. You can thus reach:

-- El Jadida: 5 hours total with 6 connections/day in Casa. 125 Dh (approx. 11 €).

-- Fès: 7 hours 10 minutes of travel and 8 trains/day for 200 Dh (approx. 18 €).

-- Meknès: 6 hours 30 minutes of travel and 8 trains/day for 175 Dh (approx. 16 €).

-- Nador: Around fifteen hours and 3 trains/day via Casa or Fès. 250 Dh (approx. 23 €).

-- Oujda: A good twelve hours of travel and 2 trains/day via Casa or Fès. 280 Dh (approx. 25 €).

-- Rabat: Around ten daily departures for a 4-hour 15-minute journey and 120 Dh (approx. 11 €).

-- Safi: Also connected to Marrakech but via the town of Benguerir, which is an hour’s drive on the Marrakech–Casa line. Allow roughly 3 hours of travel and 65 Dh (approx. 6 €).

-- Tangier: 9 to 10 hours of travel with a change for 4 trains/day and 205 Dh (approx. 19 €).
