Sultan Ahmed el-Mansour built this palace in the late 16th century. Of the original 360 rooms, only a vast esplanade surrounded by high walls remains today, sheltering gardens and orange trees. In 1696, Sultan Moulay Ismaïl destroyed the palace to salvage materials for constructing the imperial city of Meknès.
