Other practical information for South America
Luggage and equipment to bring
Light clothing plus a light sweater for evenings or air conditioning should be packed for equatorial regions or the southern summer. Also bring rain protection for the season and mosquito repellent for Amazon Rainforest. And of course, for stays at high altitudes and, in a way, the southern winter, appropriate clothing will be necessary. Since South America involves a lot of walking, good, suitable shoes are also a must.

French language use
French is very rarely spoken in Latin America, except obviously in French Guiana. English, as usual, is more or less spoken by young people, especially in urban areas and the most tourist-heavy zones. In short, to travel in South America, it’s best to have some basic Spanish, and for Brazil, Portuguese rather than relying on French.
