Accommodation in Peru
FR

Overview of the offer

Accommodation in Peru largely revolves around small hotels and guesthouses, with occasional options for lodges or bungalows in natural settings. In the Amazon, choices are more limited (and thus often more expensive), so it may be useful to bring your own hammock, especially if you plan multi-day boat trips on the rivers. Note that during peak season (July-August, around Christmas, Holy Week), hotel rates may rise in the most popular spots, though they generally remain affordable for most foreign visitors. Finally, for those travelling by bus, overnight journeys on premium vehicles (with sleeper seats) can conveniently replace a night in a hotel.

Hotels

High-end

Luxury hotels can be found in Lima and the country’s main cities, as well as increasingly in tourist destinations, as Peru now also targets wealthier travellers. However, if you’re opting for high-end accommodation, it may be better to choose charming establishments like historic colonial mansions in cities, countryside haciendas, or a lodge deep in the Amazon rainforest. You can find options for under 100 € per night.

Mid-range

This is essentially the standard hotel, bungalow, or guesthouse accustomed to visitors, offering enough comfort for a pleasant stay. Depending on the location, this may include a private bathroom, TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, or heating. Generally, for 25 to 30 € per double room, you’ll already have a solid first choice. In recent years, the Peruvian government has developed this "tourist hotel" category, with over a hundred projects planned between 2015 and 2018, half of them in the capital.

Budget

These small local hotels or family-run guesthouses provide basic comfort if you’re not too demanding. You can often sleep for under 10 € (dormitory) or 15-20 € for a double room.

Other options

Camping

There isn’t really any formal camping in Peru, and wild camping isn’t ideal for safety reasons unless you’re staying with a local who has given prior permission. That said, you may still have the chance to sleep in a tent or hammock during treks in the forest or the highlands. In short, camping is more a fallback when no other sleeping options are available than a preferred choice, especially given the relatively low cost of local guesthouses.
