Nature and Adventure

Iceland is undeniably an ecotourism destination, with its volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, mountains, desert areas, and rugged coastline. It’s also the land of the midnight sun and the northern lights. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, with hiking—whether on foot, horseback, mountain bike, or in a 4x4—being the most sought-after.

Culture

While the island has a strong and unique culture that dates back centuries, it isn’t "spectacular" in the traditional tourist sense. There are few ancient monuments, only a handful of museums, and a way of life that may not stand out to visitors from the rest of Europe or North America.

Relaxation and Holidays

Despite its hot springs and some wellness activities, Iceland is clearly not a "relaxation-holiday" destination in the usual sense.

Independent Travel

As long as you’re reasonably equipped and aware of the limits to respect in Iceland’s harsh natural environment, the country is a manageable destination for beginner travelers.

Organized Travel

When it comes to organized trips from home, Iceland is primarily a destination for tour operators specializing in the "Far North," trekking, or adventure travel. That said, there are also plenty of customizable options, including tailor-made packages covering flights, accommodation, vehicle rental, and more, as well as all-inclusive weekend deals. Local agencies are numerous and offer a wide range of services for both winter and summer, ready to meet visitors’ expectations.
