Flying to Albania
FR

General Information

Like the tourism sector, air transport and local infrastructure in the country have been evolving rapidly in recent years. There are now more flights and plans to build or upgrade airports to meet this strong new demand.

For now, Tirana Airport handles by far the most traffic, with 11.5 million passengers in 2025—almost four times more than in 2019. However, Vlore Airport in the south (opened in 2025) and Kukes Airport in the north are set to ease congestion. This means Albania will now benefit from three well-developed airports, making air access far less limited than before. Travellers will no longer need to consider arriving in neighbouring countries like Montenegro, Greece (Corfu), or even Dubrovnik in Croatia, or even the Italian Adriatic coast to reach Albania.

Local Airlines

While Albania once had around half a dozen national carriers, all have since disappeared, the last being the low-cost airline Air Albania in 2025. Currently, there are no Albanian airlines. In a way, Ryanair and Wizz Air now fill this role, offering extensive connections from numerous European cities.

Charter, Scheduled, and Low-Cost Flights

Albania is one of the few countries where you’ll still find a mix of scheduled and seasonal flights, national carriers, low-cost airlines, and charters. The country’s rapid rise as a tourist destination has created space for all types of services...

From Europe and Beyond

From France

With the country’s growing tourism, Paris (Roissy and Orly), Bordeaux, Beauvais, Nantes, Lyon, Nice, and Basel/Mulhouse now offer direct seasonal or year-round flights via Air France, Transavia, Ryanair, or Wizz Air. These are the best options to avoid time-consuming connections. Flights from France take around 2.5 to 3 hours, with fares averaging 200 € to 300 €.

From the Rest of Europe

Like France, most other European countries have good connections to Albania, with many direct flights offered by various airlines—also worth prioritising.

Outside Europe

Options are still limited but improving. There are now flights to and from the Middle East, and even a seasonal route to Toronto, Canada, operated by Air Transat.
