What to See in Greece
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Greece has 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Twelve are located on the mainland, and six in the islands. While several ancient sites are naturally included (Delos, Epidaurus, Olympia, the Acropolis of Athens...), other more "recent" landmarks like the Old Town of Corfu, the Medieval City of Rhodes, or the monasteries of Meteora or Mount Athos are also part of the list. However, Greece has no natural sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
By Region
Every region of Greece is rich in sites and other places to discover:
- What to See in Mainland Greece: Including Athens and its surrounding area, Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, the site of Delphi, the stunning monasteries of Meteora and Mount Athos, as well as various natural spaces like Mount Olympus, Pelion, or Vikos-Aoos National Park.
- What to See in the Peloponnese: Numerous ancient sites (including several UNESCO-listed ones like Mystras, Olympia, or Epidaurus), beautiful coastal and mountain landscapes perfect for hiking, such as the Mani Peninsula, as well as some lovely beaches for swimming enthusiasts.
- What to See in Crete: Among others, sites from the Minoan era like Knossos, which remains the most famous, along with many beaches and seaside resorts.
- What to see in the Greek Islands: Beaches, nature, historical and ancient ruins, quiet spots or lively party destinations—islands for every taste, including well-known ones like Rhodes, Mykonos, Corfu, and Santorini, among many others.
