Packing and Equipment to Bring

Unless you plan to tackle Kilimanjaro, lightweight clothing will be sufficient, though a light sweater is useful for evenings, mornings, and air-conditioned spaces. Also bring sun protection, dust protection, and rain gear for the season. As always, travel light.

For safaris, pack comfortable, flexible clothing that covers your entire body in neutral colors to avoid standing out to animals. Other useful items include a headlamp (especially if camping), binoculars, and all the accessories needed for your camera (batteries, memory cards, charger, etc.). However, there’s no need to bring camping gear, as local safari agencies or Kilimanjaro operators provide what’s necessary. Also, bring a sufficient supply of any medications and a basic first-aid kit.

Finally, remember that in Zanzibar, 98% of the population is Muslim, and outside hotel zones, "appropriate" clothing is recommended, particularly for women or during Ramadan.
