For French Citizens

No visa is required. However, the following documents are mandatory: valid passport, return or onward ticket, proof (or contact details) of accommodation and financial means for the duration of the stay. With these, you are allowed to stay for one month, extendable upon request.

Other Nationalities

The same applies to most other nationalities.

Long Stays

If you wish to stay longer than one month as a tourist, you can apply for an extension. This is granted for up to three months from the initial entry date into the country, and can then be renewed for periods not exceeding three months per maximum twelve-month period. After the first three free months, each additional period costs 5,000 rupees (approx. 350 €).
