Climate and Weather in Belize
Location Map of Belize
Climate Overview
Belize has a tropical climate, hot and humid like much of the Yucatán. Rainfall is frequent, especially in the south, with a long rainy season from late May to January. During this period, it rains roughly every other day—or even more—with sometimes violent storms, particularly in the latter part of the year. The (roughly) dry season runs from February to early May. Like much of the Caribbean coast, Belize lies in the path of hurricanes around September to early November.
While the Cayes (the islands) benefit from a light sea breeze that eases the mugginess, especially during the rainy season, the same isn’t true on the mainland. There, you’ll need to head to the southern highlands for more moderate heat and bearable humidity.
