Flying to Morocco
General Information
Morocco has around fifteen airports, with Marrakech and Casablanca being by far the two main ones. Casablanca also serves as the "hub" (main hub) for the national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and, to a lesser extent, Air Arabia.
Types of Flights
Moroccan Airlines
There are two Moroccan airlines: Royal Air Maroc, the national carrier, and Air Arabia Maroc, a low-cost airline.
Charters, Scheduled, and Low-Cost Flights
For a long time, Morocco was a destination where scheduled flights and low-price charters competed, but now low-cost airlines like easyJet, Transavia, Vueling, Volotea, and especially Ryanair—which has made Morocco one of its priority markets—dominate, offering around forty routes. This shift means that "low-cost" has overtaken charters, and the country is increasingly becoming a low-cost destination from Europe.
Promotions and Special Offers
Since Morocco is a highly touristic destination, frequent promotions are available, sometimes with "package" deals (flight + hotel) offered by agencies that can be more attractive than the price of the flight alone.
From France
Due to historical ties, established diasporas, distances that justify flying, attractive prices, and, of course, significant tourist interest, strong networks have developed between the two countries, transporting millions of people each year. Dozens of flights operate weekly, if not daily, connecting numerous cities via various airlines.
This is the case for air travel between France and Morocco, which has long been in the Top 3 most frequented routes for both countries. It is estimated that around 10 million people now use this route annually.
Departing from France
Nearly twenty French airports now offer direct flights to Morocco. Additionally, there are occasional flights, primarily to Agadir and Marrakech, to meet regional demand.
In short, beyond the Paris airports of Orly and Charles de Gaulle, you’ll find options—though varying in frequency—from Bordeaux, Brest, Clermont-Ferrand, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Mulhouse/Basel, Nantes, Nice, Nîmes, Paris-Beauvais, Perpignan, Rennes, Strasbourg, and Toulouse.
Arriving in Morocco
Similarly, on the Moroccan side, while Agadir, Casablanca, and Marrakech account for much of the traffic, you’ll also find more or less frequent services to Essaouira, Fès, Nador, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Rabat, and Tangier.
Direct Flights or with Stopovers
Given the extensive year-round offerings from Paris and elsewhere, prioritize direct flights and avoid those with stopovers.
Selection Criteria
Whether you’re in Paris, the provinces, or elsewhere:
- Always prioritize direct flights, especially low-cost ones.
- If departing from Paris, compare flight details (airports and schedules).
- Depending on where you live, also check offers from nearby cities, as there may be plenty of options in season.
- The same applies to arrival cities in Morocco, where many airports are relatively close, especially if you plan to travel around. It can also be interesting to mix your flights—for example, arriving in Casablanca and returning from Marrakech.
- Don’t forget to look at the many promotions available for Morocco almost year-round, both from Paris and the provinces.
- Agencies often offer "all-inclusive" packages (flight + hotel). It’s worth checking these, as they can sometimes be very attractive—even cheaper (!) than a standalone flight.
- Finally, to find the best prices, avoid summer months and peak travel dates, and book early.
From Another Country
Belgium
Belgium is also well-served, particularly by low-cost airlines, with prices roughly similar to those from France.
- Brussels: Al Hoceima (RAM) + Casablanca (Air Arabia, RAM, SN Brussels Airlines) + Marrakech (RAM) + Nador (Jetairfly, RAM) + Oujda (RAM) + Rabat (RAM) + Tangier (Jetairfly, RAM).
- Charleroi: Agadir (Ryanair) + Fès (Ryanair) + Marrakech (Ryanair) + Nador (Ryanair) + Oujda (Ryanair) + Tangier (Ryanair).
Switzerland
Options are more limited, but prices are generally similar to those from France.
- Geneva: Casablanca (RAM) + Marrakech (easyJet, RAM).
- Zurich: Agadir (Swiss) + Casablanca (RAM) + Marrakech (Swiss).
Quebec
Montreal is directly connected to Casablanca by RAM for around $1,500 CAD minimum round-trip. In a way, this offers good value compared to other scheduled flights, all of which transit through Europe. While some of these may be slightly cheaper, the detour and sometimes lengthy layovers reduce their appeal.
If you do transit through Europe, it’s better to opt for transatlantic flights, particularly with Air Transat, before continuing to Morocco with one of the many low-cost airlines from France or elsewhere. By planning your dates carefully, you can sometimes complete the entire journey for under $1,000 CAD, with a wider choice of Moroccan cities.
Other Countries
Like France, Belgium, and Switzerland, Morocco is well-served by scheduled and seasonal flights from other European tourist markets. Thanks to RAM and Air Arabia, the destination also has good connections to and from West Africa and the Middle East.
