Bonjour,
Hello,
My name is Eva Ladeborn. I work as a Volunteers Coordinator at UNHCR,
the UN Refugee Agency.
In Malaysia refugee children do not have access to public schools. In
order to provide some education to their children, refugee communities
often start up a basic school themselves. At the moment we are aware of
60 refugee community schools in the KL area. UNHCR supports these
schools in different ways. Right now we need a lot of volunteers who can
teach English at the schools. Only one third of refugee children in
Malaysia have access to any kind of schooling today.
UNHCR has around 120 registered volunteers at the moment - Malaysians
and Expats. Normally a volunteer can share their time and knowledge one
to two days per week - for a few hours each time. You do not need
previous teaching experience. There are also many other areas to
volunteer in if you don't want to teach English. You could help
different women's groups with income generating activities, help out
with more administrative tasks or specific projects.
I attach a fact sheet where you can learn more about refugees in
Malaysia.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Eva Ladeborn
