Bonjour a la communautee de voyage forum, voila notre histoire...
Jeune couple ardechoix , nous sommes partis faire le tour du monde depuis maintenant trois ans. Notre but, pas davions.... nous faisons alors cap vers louest et , en velo, en bateau, en cheval , en stop ou encore en pirogue, nous parcourons le globe . Ajourdhui nous arrivons en indonesie et continuons le bateaux jusqu en thailande ou nous pensons arriver dici 2 mois.
Pour finir notre tour du monde nous pensions acheter une moto 125cc en thailande OU en inde et rentrer en france par le pakistan, l iran , la turquie puis leurope.
Evidement nous sommes pleins de questions comme :
- doit on avoir une assurance pour rouler dans ces pays?
- si oui, dois-je prendre une assurance en france?... en thailande?... en inde?....me couvrira t elle tout au long du trajet?
- peut on croiser les frontieres avec une moto? Faut il des papiers speciaux?
- pour la carte grise et limmatriculation du vehicule, comment ca se passe?
- jai un permis international, ca suffit?
Voila ce sont surtout des questions de formalites qui nous tracasses.... et ce que quelqu un pourrait nous aider...? Conseils, idees, histoires vecus.... nous sommes ouvert.

Loin d'être un spécialiste et loin d'être exhaustif, il y a deux choses dont je suis sur :
Il te faut le permis international (et national francais) validé en moto catégorie A.
Pour importer ton engin en europe et l'immatriculer en france, tu vas galérer car il doit avoir un numéro d'agrément européen, c'est a dire un dossier accepté par l'europe sur ses caractéristiques techniques et là ca risque de vachement coincer, si c'est possible (pas sûr) ca risque de coûter assez cher.

A chaque passage de frontiere vous avez unpermis dimportation temporaire pour une duree determine qui donc implique que vous resortiez avec la moto
Si vous vendez alors donc vous devez payer les taxes d import et tous les papiers

pour l'achat en thailande, et la mettre à votre nom, vous devrez produire un certificat d'hébergement à demander à l'immigration de votre région, ça c'est corsé depuis un moment, il faut que votre logeur vous fournisse une attestation et la preuve de la possession de son bien;un document du staff n'est pas recevable;de plus si vous louer à la root, le logeur refusera (cas vécu).
Si tout est ok, immatriculation dans les 3 jours je crois pour une occase et 3 mois pour du neuf.Ensuite posez vous la question pour entrée en birmanie, puis l'inde, et surtout le passage au pakistan .Des renseignements possible à l'automobile club de l'ouest.Pour les assurances c'est souvent une par pays traversé

renseignes toi bien , je ne crois pas que tu puisse vendre une moto en Turquie. si c'est comme pour les voitures , un étranger peut vendre une voiture en Turquie mais uniquement à un étranger et non a un turc.

Là nous sommes en Malaisie aussi, vers Klang, dans un port pourrit car notre bateau a quelques soucis. Mais d'ici peu nous remontrons la thailande direction Vietnam pour acheter une moto. Ensuite direction mongolie puis Russie. Si ça l fait en moto , on continuera comme ca jusqu'en France, sinon, on prendra l'option du transsiberien. ...

Vous n'aurez aucun papier qui certifiera que la moto est à votre nom, c'est à dire la Blue Vietnamese Registration Card
Pour moins de 300 euros soyez certain que votre moto n'aura pas la capacité de rejoindre l'Europe, ici au Vietnam les backpackers passent quasi quotidiennement dans un garage pour solutionner les problèmes.

Pour la chine que vous souhaitez traverser j'ai lu que l'accord proposé en février (faciliter la reconnaissance du permis francais) n'était toujours pas effectif, a vérifier. J'ai écrit a l'ambassade, j'attend leur réponse. Nous avions oublié la mongolie a cause de ça, mais tu me redonnes l'espoir de conduire dans les steps mongoles! Mais sinon en effet nous avons a peu près les mêmes info, a savoir que le pays le plus facile pour acheter est le vietnam et que le bakchich est une bonne solution pour traverser les frontieres! Depuis peu le permis français est reconnu en chine, et ça c'est une bonne nouvelle.
grosse approximation, dans la theorie, depuis fevrier 2017, un RESIDENT (pas un touriste) peut demander l equivalence, dans la pratique, je m etais renseigne en juin au consulat de canton, ca n etait pas encore jouable, et je ne connais personne qui ait reussi a ce jour.
une fois que tu as le permis, il faut aussi importer ton vehicule, ceux qui ont reussi a le faire ont du payer des milliers d euros, et respecter des contraintes delirantes (nb de jours limité pour ressortir de chine, prise en charge d un accompagnateur, trajet a definir au prealable...). Difficile d imaginer que ce soit compatible avec toi qui cherche a economiser quelques euros sur l achat de ta moto
Enfin il faut respecter les regles tres complexes qui interdisent par exemple de rouler a moto sur la plupart des autoroutes, routes nationales et dans la plupart des villes (a shenzhen ou j habite, ceux qui se font choper avec une moto a essence, c est direct en taule)
contraintes similaires en birmanie, ce qui t oblige donc quasiment a un transport maritime pour contourner la barriere geographique constituee par ces 2 pays, la aussi un paquet d euros a la cle

Comme je l'ai raconté dans mon premier message, cela fais 4 ans maintenant que je voyage autour du globe avec dans mon pauvre petit sac de 30 litres, une machette, un duvet, une casserole, une pipe a herbe, et des capotes. Mais surtout avec le plus essentiel. ...l'espoir et le rêve d'aller toujours plus loin.
J'ai traversé l'Atlantique pour 35€ en 15 jours ensuite j'ai rejoins la Colombie par la cote Nord alors que TOUS le monde me disait que ce n'était pas possible. J'ai travaillé dans des endroit où je n'avait pas le droit, j'ai conduit sans permis , j'ai dormis gratuitement pendant des mois, j'ai fumé ce qui est interdit , j'ai passer la frontière colombie-panama (encore une fois les gens me découragé), j'ai traversé le Pacifique en plus d'un an de bateaux stop...et maintenant, dernière ligne droite. Devant la frontière chinoise encore une fois les gens me décourage..... mais cela ne m'inquiète pas vraiment je l'avoue. Je garde espoir car cest grace a lui que je me rapproche un peu plus chaque jour de mon chez moi..

j ai eu chez moi il y a qq semaines un couple russe, qui arrivaient de st petersbourg en stop (ils avaient donc deja traverse tte la chine, en rentrant depuis le tadjikistan, en passant par urumqi, jusqu a shenzhen... https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2003895811)
le stop est interdit en chine (au moins sur les autoroutes), ils m ont raconte qu ils se sont fait choper a peu pres tous les jours, se faisant raccompagner jusqu aux sorties d autoroutes, mais jamais plus que des remontrances.

Beau voyage en effet pour vous reprendre il n'est rien d'impossible pour celui qui veut réaliser ses rêves. Il suffit d'avoir confiance .vous avez fait vos classes à merveille. Et vous avez bien raison de ne pas vous formaliser avec certains interdits.

À signaler tout de même que d'un point de vu géopolitique Orient Asie c'est la partie la plus pourrie de la planète voire de l'univers ....
Cela fait maintenant une semaine que nous roulons avec notre moto ACHETÉE en Malaisie, avec bien entendu TOUS les papiers nécessaires à la conduite dans ce pays:
- assurance (tout risque) pour 1 an: 300 RM
- "carte grise" à notre nom: 3 RM pour le changement de propriétaire au bureau des transports
- taxe routière pour 1 an: 2 RM
Pour ton information mais surtout pour ceux qui souhaitent de réels renseignements, ça nous a demandé 30 minutes au bureau des transports… donc c'est en effet presque aussi simple que d'acheter une bouteille d'eau.

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43)
