Si votre véhicule a 2 ans le carnet ATA n'est pas obligatoire, cependant il vous faudra un "passe avant" renouvelable, la durée étant à négocier avec les douanes, en principe à votre entrée vous obtenez 72 heures et faire le reste à Dakar.
Personnellement je préfère le carnet ATA valable 1 an que vous pouvez faire valider à Rosso, qui vous délivre aussi un "passe avant" mais c'est juste pour l'argent. Si vous ne connaissait pas Rosso vous allez découvrir un "autre monde".
il semblerait qu' à Diama l'on délivre un "passe avant" de 72 heures pour faire valider le carnet à Dakar. Je vais voir car je compte y passer vers le 18/10.
Le permis internationale n'est pas obligatoire, mais l'avantage est que l'on peut l'abandonner à un gendarme un peu trop gourmand en cours de route.

Quand tu dis qu'à Rosso, l'ATA est validé, cela veut il dire que tu ne passes pas par les douanes de Dakar ? de toute façon, ce n'est pas ce qui m'incitera à passer par là.
A Diama, le passavant (10 € avec reçu) est de 48 heures pour Dakar, 72 h en veille de week-end ou jour de fête ou en négociant.
Même avec un véhicule neuf, il est moins contraignant d'avoir l'ATA. Moins couteux ? A voir !

La Loi, le règlement etc...comme vous voudrez, Pour renter avec un véhicule terrestre étranger (Français) par Rosso comme par Diama, le carnet ATA est obligatoire.
Je ne cesse de le répéter sur les forums, cela vous évitera de courir de Douanes en douanes pour des hypothétiques passavants dont les prix peuvent largement dépassé le montant d'un carnet ATA ! et avec le risque d'immobilisation de votre véhicule ou un raccompagnement à la frontière.
En présentant votre carnet ATA à Rosso comme à Diama, on vous délivrera un passavant de 48 h pour le prix de 2 500 FCFA (3.8 €) avec facture, pour vous rendre aux Douanes de Dakar et faire enregistrer votre carnet ATA (case importation blanche)vous permettant de circuler sans problème au Sénégal et au maximum jusqu'à la date de validité de votre carnet ATA (1 an)
Au retour en Mauritanie vous n'êtes pas obligé de repasser par Dakar, les Douanes de Rosso ou Diama sont habilitées à compléter dans le carnet ATA (la feuille blanche) la case réexportation de votre véhicule.
Votre carnet ATA doit impérativement être complété (case Réexportation feuille blanche)l orsque vous quitter le Sénégal par n'importe qu'elle frontière, Mauritanie, Mali, Guinée Conakry ou Guinée Bissau.
Si vous avez pris soin de préciser à la demande de votre carnet que vous pouvez revenir au Sénégal pendant sa durée de validité , d'autres cases vous permettront de l'utiliser sans rien payer puisqu'il aura été déjà enregistré à Dakar lors de votre première entrée.

Nous nous apprêtons à partir pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest pour un voyage de 6 mois qui comprendra Maroc, Mauritanie, Sénégal, Guinée, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Bénin, Burkina et retour.
On ne parle QUE du carnet ATA pour le Sénégal. Or, le Ghana exige un CPD.
Savez-vous si le carnet ATA est incontournable pour le Sénégal ou si je peux présenter un CPD ?

je ne sais pas répondre à ta question, je pense que CPD est valable pour toutes les frontières. Il est peu utilisé par ceux comme moi qui n'en ont pas besoin pour les pays traversés. Peut être aussi pour des démarches plus compliquées ?

Le carnet ATA est obligatoire quelque soit l'âge de votre véhicule pour un importation temporaire , tourisme pour visiter le Sénégal par exemple.
On voit bien que vous n'avez pas vu les nombreuses voitures bloquées même toute neuve, ( moins de 2 ans) à Diama ou Rosso parce qu’elles n'avaient pas de carnet ATA!!!
Quelques unes sont passées avec un gros bakchich et se sont faites arrêtées dès la sortie de la frontière avec le choix soit retour frontière ou encore bakcchich et ça peut durer tout au long du voyage.
Conclusion : carnet ATA pour toutes les voitures.
Un petit rappel, le Sénégal à mis le carnet de passage en Douanes (CPD) pour éviter l'importation des voitures "poubelles".
Rapidement les autorités Françaises sous la pression des entreprises ayant de gros échanges avec le Sénégal ont demandé et obtenu que le carnet ATA (réservé aux marchandises ) soit élargi aux véhicules de tourisme comme étant une marchandise.
Un certain nombre de pays ont également accepté cette utilisation du carnet ATA;
La procédure du carnet ATA très simple et rapide (par internet sur webata) ne demande pas de caution .
Bien entendu le carnet CPD obligatoire pour d'autres pays reste valable et accepté par les Douanes Sénégalaises.
Vous êtes dans le même cas d'amis voyageurs partis fin 2017 et qui descendent jusqu'en Afrique du sud et qui avec leur CPD n'ont eu aucun problème au Sénégal.
La procédure d'entrée au Sénégal contrairement à d'autres pays est identique pour un CPD comme ATA, c'est à dire qu'a la Douane d'entrée Diama ou Rosso sur présentation du carnet on vous délivrera un passavant à 2500 FCA (48 h) + si weekend pour faire enregistrer votre carnet aux Douanes de Dakar.
Il faut croire que les Douanes frontalières ne sont pas fiables et douteuses par les autorités centrales (faux carnet en circulation pour continuer le trafic de voitures poubelles !
Une fois votre carnet enregistré à Dakar, pour sortir du Sénégal ou revenir , dans la durée de validité de votre carnet (1 an) vous n'avez plus besoin de repasser aux Douanes de Dakar, les Doaunes des frontières sont habilitées.
Ps: avec votre 4x4, je vous conseille d'éviter Rosso !!!!

We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.
Here’s the planned route (in this order):

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)

While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?
