Entre Malaga et Sevilla...
Est-ce possible de faire les visites des villages blancs (Ronda, Mija-Marbella-Cadiz-Gibraltar-Jerez de la frontera-Marbella...) en autobus ou en train? Ou sommes nous obliger de louer une voiture? Je ne me sens pas à l'aise en voiture😕
ET quel(S) village(S) ou ville(S) est (sont) le(S) mieux situé(S) pour rayonner dans cette région, afin de limiter nos déplacements? Avez-vous des suggestions pour un endroit typique pour l'hébergement (en évitant les gros hôtels de la Costa del Sol😮).
Tout est toujours possible en transports en commun à partir du moment que l'on a du temps devant soi, car c'est plus long qu'en voiture.
Par ailleurs, à partir de 2 personnes, la location d'une voiture revient moins cher que les transports en commun, surtout si vous réservez votre voiture longtemps à l'avance.

N'ayez aucune crainte, le réseau routier est dense, et en excellent état.
L'Espagne a les mêmes infrastructures routières que n'importe où ailleurs en Europe ou en Amérique.
Par ailleurs, toute la Costa del Sol n'est pas envahie de gros hotels de masse.
Les hotels auxquels vous pensez sont surtout situés à Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola et Torre del mar.
Sur une bande côtière d'environ 30 km, située entre La Cala de Mijas et San Pedro de Alcantara, sur les communes de Mijas et Marbella, vous trouverez des hotels et des résidences hôtelières, à taille humaine, situés en bord de mer, dans des quartiers verdoyants et animés.
Depuis Marbella ou Mijas, vous serez au cœur de tout, et pourrez rayonner partout rapidement et facilement, et ainsi combiner visites et farniente.
En général, il revient moins cher de louer un appartement, ou une mini-villa, que d'aller à l'hotel. Par ailleurs, c'est plus confortable (c'est plus grand).
En Espagne, ce n'est pas comme en France, quand vous louez un appartement, le linge de maison (serviettes de toilette et draps) est fourni, les lits sont préparés à votre arrivée et le ménage, à la fin de votre séjour, est soit compris dans le prix, soit très peu cher.
Si vous souhaitez un service hotelier avec restaurants etc... il vous suffit de choisir une résidence hôtelière avec des restaurants.
Pour trouver votre bonheur, c'est simple, vous consultez les sites de mise en relation entre particuliers, comme Abritel.fr, Homelidays.fr ou VacancesEspagne.fr et vous sélectionnez les filtres qui vous intéressent, comme "distance jusqu'à la mer", "vue mer" etc...

1 - Visites
- Centre historique de Marbella :
Superbe (beaucoup de monuments du XVI e siècle, boutiques, restos etc...
La ville récente ne présente pas un grand intérêt, sauf pour les fans de shopping
Belles promenades en bord de mer, avec palmiers, restaurants, en sortant du front de mer de la ville récente, en allant vers Puerto Banus ou vers Mijas.
- MIJAS Pueblo situé à seulement 5 minutes (5 km) de la côte :
Magnifique village blanc, touristique, mais très joli et animé.
Belle vue sur le littoral, églises, chapelle, les arènes, restaurants, commerces, nouveau musée art contemporain avec des Picasso le CAC (Centre d'Art Contemporain).
Essayez de monter à la chapelle Ermita del Calvario.
Parking municipal couvert à l'entrée du village (avenida del Compas) = 1 € seulement la journée.
- Villages blancs situés à 10 à 15 minutes de la côte : Benahavis, Istan, Ojen, Casares
- RONDA (à 50 km, 40 mn de la côte) à voir absolument, en long, en large et en travers
Ville la plus romantique d'Espagne, selon Hemingway.
Orson Wells y a fait disperser ses cendres.
De nombreux poètes y ont longuement séjourné.
Les couchers de soleil sont fabuleux.
On dit de Ronda que quand on a pas pu visiter Séville, Ronda en donne un avant-goût.
De plus, il y a beaucoup d'activités de plein-air dans les environs (Via Ferrata, Canyoning, rando, varappe etc...) + la route de vins + une élevage de taureaux (Reservatauro).
Se garer gratuitement au sud de la ville, près de la Puerta de Almocabar, près de la place Ruedo Alameda.
S'arrêter prendre un verre, pas cher, sur la belle terrasse fleurie de l'hotel Jardin de la Muralla (très jolie vue).
Ne loupez pas la place Duquesa de Parcent avant de vous rendre au Puente Nuevo et aux arènes (les plus anciennes et plus belles d'Espagne).
- La route touristique des villages blancs, à travers les parcs naturels de La Serrania de Ronda, Sierra de Las Nieves, Sierra Bemeja et la Vallée de Genal :
Boucle, de 200 km, au départ de Marbella (San Pedro de Alcantara) : Cartajima, Juzcar, Ronda, Gaucin, Casares, Estepona, Marbella.
Attention, à propos des villages blancs, en général, à part à Mijas Pueblo, il ne se passe pas grand chose, ils sont jolis à regarder accrochés aux flancs des collines, mais ils sont endormis
- Malaga (20 minutes, 30 km) :
Centre ville piétonnier animé, Cathédrale, Musée Picasso, l'Alcazaba, Castillo de Gibralfaro, arènes, Centre Pompidou, musées etc...
Se garer au parking du Pompidou.
- El Chorro (Alora / Ardales / Antequera) + Lac El Conde de Guadalhorce
(70 km, 1h00 en voiture) :
Devenu la visite incontournable depuis 2015

Faire une halte à Carratraca pour déjeuner chez l’habitant à Fonda Casa Pepa (calle Los Banos) situé en face des Thermes (sources chaudes). Famille, qui accueille ses clients dans sa salle à manger, avec les photos de mariage, de communion etc... (repas complet chez mami pour 8 € vin compris) (tel : 00 34 952 458 049) ou prendre un verre juste à côté Bar La Boacha Authenthique et plein de charme.
- Antequera (80 km, 50 minutes) :
La ville regorge d'églises et de couvents (une cinquantaine de monuments et d'édifices) + El Torcal
- Grenade : à seulement 1h20, en voiture (140 km) : incontournable.
Prendre tickets pour l'Alhambra, la veille de la visite, à un distributeur de billets de banque d'une agence bancaire La Caixa (n'importe où en Andalousie).
Places de stationnement gratuites près du Palais des Congrès.
Ne pas manquer aussi le quartier de l'Albaizin
- Gibraltar (90 km, 1h00) :
Belvédère avec les singes sauvages, les Grottes de St Michael, rues avec magasins hors taxe etc....
Un petit goût de Grande Bretagne, avec les cabines téléphoniques rouges, les Bobbies etc... Il vaut mieux y entrer et en sortir en dehors des horaires de bureau, pour éviter les embouteillages
- Tarifa, Vejer de la Frontera et Cadix (1h30, 160 km) :
Comptez la journée (attention, vous êtes sur la côte Atlantique, le climat est différent de la côte Méditerranéenne, c'est important d'en tenir compte, surtout d'octobre à avril).
Dans ce secteur, il y a un vent supérieur à force 4, 60 % de l'année, le paradis du Kite Surf
A Tarifa, se garer gratuitement à proximité de la Plazuela del Viento
- Nerja à 80 km (moins d'1 heure) :
Le Balcon de l'Europe, les grottes, Frigiliana, La Herradura : comptez une journée de visite
- Cordoue à 150 km (1h30) comptez une journée de visite
- Séville : Il faut bien 2h15 (230 km) par l'autoroute depuis la Costa del Sol occidentale
Incontournable
Pour profiter de cette ville fabuleuse, il vaut mieux partir tôt le matin de la côte, dormir une nuit sur place, au minimum, et rentrer tard sur la côte
Se garer gratuitement près du Parc Jardines de la Buhaira (à proximité du Bario de Santa Cruz)
2 - Les promenades de bord de mer (avec restos les pieds dans l'eau)
- Le Sentier du littoral à Mijas : promenade en bord de mer de 6 km entre La Cala de Mijas et Marbella.
- Le littoral de Sitio de Calahonda vient d'être classé zone naturelle de conservation de la faune et la flore.
- Marbella, avec sa promenade, la Via Verde, en bord de mer de 6 km de long, entre Marbella et Puerto Banus, ses chiringuitos, ses palmiers, (louez un vélo sur le Paseo Maritimo de Marbella, à côté du phare, 12 € / la journée, etc.....
Se garer au parking couvert situé à côté du Parque de la Constitucion (très joli) et partir vers la droite, en bord de mer
Ou bien garez vous gratuitement dans l'Urbanizacion El Puente Romano, en bord de mer.
Elle se situe à mi-chemin entre Marbella et Puerto Banus, à proximité de l'hotel du même nom "Puente Romano".
Puis prenez la Via Verde, vers la gauche, vers Marbella, (ou vers la droite, vers Puerto Banus)
- Paseo Maritimo de Marbella
Se garer au parking situé à côté du Parque de la Constitucion et partir vers la gauche, en bord de mer
Profitez en pour vous promener dans le centre historique de Marbella
- Puerto Banus : le Saint Tropez espagnol. on adore ou on déteste
- Marina de Cabopino
- La Cala de Mijas
- Estepona, Fuengirola, Torremolinos et Benalmadena (pas les stations balnéaires du coin qui bénéficient du plus de charme, un peu trop bétonnées à mon goût)
3 - Les plus belles plages et bords de mer
- Cabopino (Réserve naturelle de Las Dunas de Artola, constructions interdites), Artola Playa, El Rosario, Las Chapas, Elviria, Los Monteros, Alicate Playa, Playa Real de Zaragoza
- Golden Mile à Marbella : Playa Casablanca, Playa Ancon, Playa Nagueles etc......
- Sitio de Calahonda (Mijas) et La Cala de Mijas
- Grandes plages urbaines (pour ceux qui aiment) : Fuengirola, Torremolinos etc....
- Bolonia à Tarifa : beaucoup de vent tout au long de l'année, même en été.
Rien autour, que la nature.
4 - Pour les amoureux de la montagne et de la nature
Randos, promenades à cheval, simples balades pour voir les cascades, magnifiques paysages, Via Ferrata etc...
- Parc naturel de la Sierra de Las Nieves (entre Marbella et Ronda, Pic de Torrecilla altitude : 1 918 m), classé Réserve Mondiale de la biosphère par l'UNESCO, la Serrania de Ronda, la Sierra de Tolox et la Sierra Bermeja (1 449 m)
- la Valle del Guadalhorce (El Chorro : Défilé de Los Gaitanes, Caminito del Rey, barrage de Guadelteba, lagune de Fuente de Piedra....). Ardales (45 mn) (Via ferrata, barrage, gorges, lagune)
- Antequera / Alora / Ardales: El Chorro : El Caminito del Rey (réservation obligatoire)

- Nombreux chiringuitos (bars et restaurants de plage), en bord de mer (partout)
- Marbella : plage de la Fontanilla, restaurants situés sous la promenade (peu visibles), fréquentés par les espagnols, très bons (commander poissons cuits à la braise)
- La Cala de Mijas : sur la promenade du bord de mer
- Marina de Cabopino
- Puerto Banus : ne pas rester là où sont les bateaux et les boutiques, allez plus à l'ouest pour la vue sur Gibraltar.
- Benahavis : réputé pour ses restaurants de viande (plutôt le soir)
- Fuengirola : restaurants les moins chers de la côte, situés dans les rues piétonnes, près de la place de la Constitution.
6 - Shopping
- Les grands marchés (Fuengirola, le mardi matin, La Cala de Mijas, mercredi matin, Marbella etc...)
Attention peu d'artisanat local, plutôt la vente bon marché de contrefaçons (Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada etc...)
- Marché alimentaire traditionnel de Malaga : Mercado Central de Atarazanas
- Nombreuses boutiques de mode dans les centres-villes de Marbella et Fuengirola
- Centre commercial La Canada (Grand centre commercial avec 200 boutiques + Fnac etc...)
- Autres Centres commerciaux : Parque Miramar et El Corte Ingles à Fuengirola.
Magasin d'usine : Factory Outlet à Malaga (à côté de l'aéroport, Parque Comercial Málaga Nostrum. Polígono Guadalhorce)

En juillet et en aout, ils ajoutent 2 représentations : le jeudi soir à 21 h30 (Plaza Virgen), et le samedi midi (Plaza de la Constitucion)

I’m planning a family trip in a year. Our goal: traveling to China (and maybe Hong Kong) by train.
I’m all set with the route up to eastern Turkey.
However, I’m just starting my research for the rest of the journey—namely the Caucasus (no trains as far as I know, so buses and/or ferries), then Central Asia and China.
So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast.
I’m particularly interested in details on:
- How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations
- Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please
- Day trains vs. night trains (the latter option lets you explore cities between two legs of the journey)
- A rough idea of ticket costs

Tokyo - Hakone
Hakone - Kyoto
Kyoto - Osaka
Osaka - Tokyo
Here are my questions:
a) Is it possible to buy train tickets for these segments from Canada?
b) If so, which website should I use to do this?
c) And if it is possible, will we be able to print our tickets from Canada?
d) If it’s not possible, where in Tokyo should I go to buy these tickets when I arrive?
Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.
I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

Tomorrow afternoon, I arrive at Lyon Part-Dieu on the TGV at 5:50 PM and take the TER to Mâcon at 6:16 PM. Is a 26-minute transfer doable? Are the TGV and TER on the same departure board? And are they on the same platforms too?
I’ve been to Lyon before but never had to make a connection after arriving.

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?
We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?
