Hi everyone, travelers and luggage-toting wanderers...

I had written this:

The key is to talk about traveling with luggage.

Actually, seeing Poste42’s two photos, I think we can broaden the topic—that is, the idea of travel isn’t mandatory anymore, but we still keep the focus on showcasing luggage. Are you okay with that?
un chemin et la caresse du vent, alors je pars en voyage...

When you want to camp in the middle of a field and still have a bit of comfort, you’ve got to bring your pillow, blanket, and the picnic basket!

And the cousins take care of the wood for the campfire. It’s quite the load, isn’t it?

Hi there,

I really thought a few days ago that everyone had packed up and left!

In the countries I wander through, travelers tend to use pretty ordinary backpacks or rolling suitcases that I don’t find very interesting to photograph. 😉

An Uzbek woman tucks some bread into her bag at Samarkand station:

It’s a widespread custom to travel from one city to another carrying sometimes notable amounts of bread, with each city having its own specialty.

but we still emphasize the importance of luggage.

Will breaking this rule cost me my bag?

Luggage doesn’t need to be in 'close-up' to stand out. In your two photos, they tell a story—and that’s what really matters ;)

DO Dolma Globetrotter ·
Actually, I don’t find it that weird to buy bread when it’s a local specialty—I sometimes do it myself. It’s not quite a custom like it seems to be among Uzbeks, though. 🙂

From the most sophisticated suitcase to the bundle on your shoulder, from gear on a motorcycle to bags on top of buses, what matters is talking about traveling with luggage. A stroll, an expedition, a simple outing, a tour—anything goes, as long as the luggage is showcased, of course 🙂

Yep, all kinds of loads are welcome here, whether it’s for the joy of travel, work, or practical transport.

Hi Dolma

I don’t get why there are so few photos online by mid-March... The theme isn’t that complicated, and there are more pictures in the side discussion than in the main one!

You need to recruit some help 😛😉

I counted this morning—there must be 15 or 16 photos in the contest :/—so I’m thinking the travelers, transporters, strollers, and other wanderers we meet must be traveling with luggage so light it’s practically invisible in photos!

Okay, it’s probably also that I don’t know how to recruit 😏! Last month’s first-place spot was just a fluke, and I’m not used to running a contest like this (I’m even wondering if I’ll be able to tally the points 😮)

Come on, don’t let those shy sunbeams distract you, fellow travelers! We’re waiting for your luggage pics here! Just 2 weeks left to post your photos... ........... How annoying is this rule about not being able to write two lines in bold?

I think we were all pretty set on suitcases!

It was kinda restrictive.

Well, personally, I don’t have much new to suggest, whether it’s suitcases or any other kind of luggage. 🤪

This expanded theme "forced" me to go through my Vietnam and India photos again😉... as a result, I fell 2 days behind on my gardening while the weather was nice... and now it's raining . And I still haven't finished exploring my old photos. I even found a photo that could've fit the "white month" theme, and the next one for luggage. It's of an ethnic group in northern Vietnam where people gather to work the cotton, forming tight little rolls they take with them—what for? On this forum, someone told me this technique in Thailand was used to fill triangular-section pillows or firm cushions.

That said, I only had one photo of luggage *stricto sensu*, taken in Venice for a series showing my grandkids that everything there travels by water—mail, ambulances, fire trucks, public works...

I also have a few bags that are more or less well-framed... when you've got a telephoto lens and the interesting person passes too close.

Here’s an original piece of luggage: the Balinese fighting rooster basket.

a Vietnamese bike turned into a mobile shop

and some seriously loaded luggage racks

There we go—I’ve hit the 10-photo limit per post, and I didn’t even include the luggage-on-head photos or the hand-pulled carts, which are everywhere in India (I don’t know Africa except the north, or South America). So I’d have *plenty* more photos if we could post that kind of image. Does all this really fit the theme?
