tout d'abord merci à tout le monde de nous faire partager vos voyages et avis. Je suis partie deux fois en thailande et ai toujours préparé mes voyages grâce à ce forum.
Cette année, je pars environ 1 mois et souhaiterai fire une boucle de deux semaines environ dans le nord. Je n'ai pas encore eu le temps d'organiser mon séjour et je pars le 26/07 (c'est la course).
Nous avons loué une voiture au départ de bangkok et nous la rendons 2 semaines plus tard à bangkok. Je souhaite me faire un itinéraire sympas. J'ai peur de me prévoir trop s'arrêt et de ne pas avoir le temps de voir tout se que la thailande m'offre.
Je me pose quelques questions concernant le nord et vous pourrez peut être m'aiguiller:
- est que je peux trouver des guest ou logements facilement?
- est que vous me conseillez un sens particulier (partir vers l'ouest ou vers l'est)?
- est ce qu'un arrêt de quelques jours s'impose à Chiang mai ou non?
- est ce qu'il pleut beaucoup pendant les mois de juillet et aout?
Je cherche de mon coté sur les différents post déjà publiés mais je ne touve pas grand chose qui correcponde à ce que je recherche:
La tranquilité, la rencontre avec les thailandais, peu de touristes (même si je sais que quelques sites par lesquels je vais passer sont bondés de touristes).
Je recherche aussi une ile dans le sud pour me poser une dizaine de jours, me reposer, faire de la plongée, mais la aussi, je recherche le calme.
J'ai fais un séjour d'une semaine à Koh Chang qui m'avais beaucoup plu contrairement à Koh Samui qui était beaucoup trop touristique pour moi.
Merci d'avance de votre aide. Je serais présente tous les soirs pendant les deux semaines qui restent en attendant vos réponses.
si vous connaissiez déjà la Thailande, j'avoue ne pas comprendre pourquoi vosu avez pris lapeine de louer une voiture au départ de Bangkok alors qu'il était si simple de louer au départ de ChiangMai et de faire la grande boucle au nord ChiangMai ChiangRai longer la fontière lao al'est pour rejoindre Nan, Phrae
et suivant - passer par Sukhothai pour remonter a ChiangMai le long del a route Sukhothai Lampnag ou il y a tellement de choses a fiare et a voir
car franchement la route entre Bangkok jsqu'a Nord représente 700 km d'autoroute 4 voie dont je ne vois l'énorme interet ??
les liaisons Bangkok Nord sotn tellement faciles et peu chères en train ou en avion low cost
et il y a le vol direct ChiangMai KohSamui
non il pleut vraiment peu au nord en été ( plutot mi-septembre mi- octobre)

pour la question de la guesthouse vous pouvez compter sur le "all in one" (hôtel mais aussi massage, restauration, trecks etc) qui est une guest tenue par un francophone accueillant

tu as raison d'avoir peur, voir " tout se que la thailande" peut en 15j ou meme un mois, mission impossible

27/07.14h depart bangkok
27.07 arrivée parc national khao yai, nuit sur place
28/07 visite guidée du parc et 2eme nuit sur place
29/07 route vers khon kaen, nuit sur place
30/07 route vers nong khai, nuit sur place
31/07 journée à vientiane et retour a nong khai pour la nuit
01/07 départ vers Nan, route du mékong
je prévois 2 jours minimum pour aller a Nan, si vous avez des idées d'itinéraires car je pense passer par chiang khan et aurais souhaité continuer à monger la frontière par la 1295 puuis 1268. Ai je une chance de trouver un logement sur la route ou dois je passer par loei
03/07 passer 3 ou 4 jours à Nan trekking (celui de trois jours nous plait bien)
Passage à chiang rai quelques jours puis descente sur chiang mai pour rendre la voiture.
Je pense faire le coté ouest, pai et mae hong song en transport
Voila. Entre le 10 et le 15 selon nos envies, on descent en avion vers bangkok et train pour aller à phangan et se remettre de nos émotions jusqu'au 21/08.
En espérant que ce parcours soir plus réaliste. En fait je voulais aller en Issan et faire une bouxle complète mais je me suis faite une raison, même si je garde la montée par vientiane.
Dernière petite question mais qui a son importance tout de même, doit on prévoir des chaussures de marches ou des baskets suffisent?
Voila j'attends vos avis, soyez sans pitié si besoin, le but étant que je profite au maximum de mon voyage!!!!! La voiture est louée pour les conditions que je vous ai citée plus haut mais le trajet est modulable.

pas besoin de chaussures de marches ( et puis trop encombrantes dans les sacs)
en temps "normal" et pour un trek "standard" du coté de Nan les basket suffisent argement
si vous prévoyez de longues journées en foret ( mais connaissant un peu ce qu'on propose comme balades du coté de Nan , je pense que ce n'est surement pas le cas !)
et qu'il a plu la nuit précédente , par contre, chaussure ou basket, ca risque de patiner sérieux !
a cette saison, juillet aout et dans le Nord, ( ou la pluie n'ets vriament pas a criandre en voyage puisqu'il pleut en général uniquement en grosses averses tropicales le soir ) préférez 2 ou 3 journées de balades en foret a la journée et un bon logement l soir
un logement "rustique" en peline foret risque de transformer en vraie galère s'il pleut fort la nuit )
vous dormirez mal, vous serez fatigués, vosuaurez mal aprtout parceque vosu manquez probablement d'entrainement ..., et le deuxième jour ou le 3ème de votre partie de campagne se transformera en stage de survie !
seul commentaire sur le programme:
si vous avez calculé le kilometrage a parcourir avec une moyenne de 60- 70 km/h puisqu'il y a pas mal de petites routes de montagne, vous allez passer plus du tiers, parfois la moitié de vos journées ( je parle sur les 10 heures par journée de jour de 7h du mat a 6h le soir) assis dans votre petite boite en tole a 4 portes
Et pour celui qui conduit, il devra fixer son attention sur la route et la conduie a gauche et donc difficilement profiter du paysage

En effet Nan et ses alentours c'est à voir pas mal de choses à voir , regarde ICI j'y suis aller plusieurs fois et tu verras sur le lien plusieurs conversations avec photos pour te donner une idée .
Je dirais 4 jours plutôt 4 nuits 5 jours très bien , ainsi tu prendras le temps de voir Nan et ses alentours .
En partant de Loeï pour rejoindre Nan un très beau trajet dans la campagne et belle route goudronner , prendre la 203 direction Dan Saï par la route N° 2013 jusqu'à Nakhon-Thaï ensuite prendre route N° 1143 jusqu'à Chat Trakan puis prendre à droite route N° 1237 puis 1268 puis suivre une petite portion de la route 1241 ensuite prendre route N° 1083 jusqu'à Na Noï et là la route N° 1026 direction Wiang Sa et direction Nan plus très loin 20 Km environ , par contre faire le plein d'essence à Loeï pour être tranquille , ce parcours et magnifique en partant le matin de bonne heure tu arrives à l'aise en fin d'après midi à Nan et je compte les arrêts par çi et là pour photo , manger , boire un coup ect... , D'ailleurs je t'ai mis le plan de parcours . 😉

Puis quand tu seras à Nan une très belle journée d'excursion c'est de faire Bo-Klua là une curiosité hors norme l'extraction de sel ( salt pit ) voir les photos et plan de Michelin . Puis longer la frontière du Laos jusqu'à Chaloem Phrakiat là une nouvelle frontière pour le Laos voir photo .
De Nan pour aller à Bo-Klua direction Santisuk par la route N° 1169 puis prendre route N° 1081 qui te mènes jusqu'à Bo-Klua et Chaloem Phrakiat très belle route goudronner et très belle vue car on fait une bonne partie de cette route sur la crête des montagnes par endroit et rencontre des petits villages magnifique à voir , puis quand tu seras arriver à Chaloem Phrkiat prendre la grande route N° 1080 pour renter à Nan , belle route 4 voies voir photo en vignettes ou en dernière photo.
Perso j'avais fait cette route en sens contraire erreur de ma part , vaut mieux d'abord aller direct vers Bo-Klua . Par contre là pareil pas oublier de faire le plein d'essence avant de partir de Nan .
Voir le plan Michelin pour cette partie d'excursion . Que tu auras largement le temps sur une journée .

merci pour l'itinéraire, je vais suivre vos conseils. C'est vrai que je me suis franchement posée la question de l'essence sur cette route qui présente de jolis paysages et point de vue mais peu de grandes villes.
On a l'habitude de faire des rando et de dormir à la belle étoile (en France et j'avoue que je ne vais pas retrouver les mêmes conditions). Mais notre timing est quand même un peu serré et le trekk de trois jours nous permettais de faire le raffting en même temps. Vous pensez que ca ne vaut pas le coup . J'ai choisit celui de Nan car j'ai lu que c'était plus symmpas que ceux proposés au départ de Chiang Mai mais si vous avez d'autres bon plan, je suis preneuse.
Le départ approche et tout commence à devenir réel!!!!! vivement lundi!!

En faisant le plein d'essence avant de partir aucun soucis , d'ailleurs sur ta route tu rencontreras des villages dont certain assez gros village .
A Nan tu as une agence de voyage qui proposera plusieurs plan de raffting. Regarde CECI c'est un petit forum exclusivement sur Nan et ses proches environs en épluchant dedans cela devrait t'aider en plus .

Juste une petite indication pour les chaussures à Kao yai, le parc national, attention qu'il n'y ait pas trop de trous d'aération car quant on fait une rando, on tombe sur des sangsues, ces petits vers sont de vrais vampires, mais en général ceux qui organisent les tours vous fournissent des guettres en tissus qui recouvrent pas mal.
C'est vraiment sympa à faire, si vous êtes chanceuse, vous tomberez sur des elephants sauvages.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
