Bonjour, j'ai bien lu la plupart des discussions sur les voyages dans l'ouest canadien, et je vous demande de me conseiller sur mon planning.
Ce qui me chiffonne, c'est de savoir si on ne reste pas trop longtemps au même endroit, sachant que nous sommes de "petits marcheurs". Mon mari est cardiaque et très vite essoufflé.

Autres questions:
1.est ce que c'est une bonne période pour aller dans les Rocheuses ou faudrait-il repousser ce voyage à mi-juin?
2. Les agences nous disent qu'il faut impérativement réserver les hôtels car peu d'infrastructure et ils sont souvent complet. Pensez vous que ce soit nécessaire?
Nous préférons être libre de nos mouvements et s'il fait mauvais, pouvoir repartir ailleurs.

Le problème n'est pas que vous passez trop de temps par endroits... mais plutôt que vous n'en passez pas assez.
En juin vous n'êtes pas obligés de réserver. J'irais pour la mi-juin, les soirées vont être plus longues.
J3 je le passerais aussi à Banff... il y a plusieurs points de vue accessible aux non-marcheurs. Banff, vaut au moins 2 jours si on veut prendre le temps d'apprécier et de ne pas trop courir justement.
J4 Lac Louise et Lac Moraine... et là aller dormir sur la route qui relie Lac Louise et Jasper. En juin les soirées commencent à être longues vous devriez avoir du soleil jusqu'a 10 heures.
Beaucoup de points de vue qui relient Lac Louise et Jasper, comptez une grosse journée pour faire les 3 heures de route.
Achetez-vous un guide qui donne les arrêts à faire les plus intéressants dans les Rocheuses.
Une journée à Jasper c'est vraiment un minimum. Même chose pour Tofino, Victoria....
C'est un voyage trèèèèès rapide. Votre itinéraire me demanderait le double de temps.

Je suis d'accord avec toi qu'il faudrait rester plus longtemps .......mais, nous resterons déjà 3 semaines dans ton beau pays, car on atterri à Montréal, louons une voiture pour 3 jours et retournons de suite à Saint Sauveur, puis la région de Mont Tremblant. Nous adorons le Canada et y venons 1 fois par an, sauf en 2009 où on est retourné 2 fois (en automne et en hiver) On a même déjà pesé le pour et le contre de rester 3 mois à la fois, mais cela demande une sacré organisation pour ici en France.
Bon pour en revenir au voyage: Je pense qu'on va plutôt partir mi-juin, comme tu le suggère. Les agences de voyage disent qu'il faut IMPERATIVEMENT réserver les hôtels. Qu'en penses tu?
A JASPER, on nous a conseillé de rester au TEKARRA LODGE
et à CLEARWATER , le Trophy Mountain Lodge.

Je trouve tes 3 nuits disproportionnées par rapport à ton séjour du côté de Banff ou Jasper. Le Wells Gray PP est certes sympa... mais pas de là à y passer trois nuits :
Je ferais :
- J6 : Jasper - Clearwater = la matinée pour faire le trajet, l'am pour découvrir le parc de Wells Gray
- J7 : Wells Gray suite le matin, trajet vers Whistler l'am
Et je répartirai les jours gagnés à Banff ou Jasper où il y a bien plus de choses à faire et à voir même pour des petits marcheurs.
Je pense qu'il est mieux de partir mi-juin.
Je connais le Trophy Mountain Lodge... mais j'étais au camping, je ne sais pas ce que valent leurs chambres.

Une autre remarque... pour rééquilibrer ton itinéraire : je supprimerais Campbell River au profit d'une journée de plus... par ex à Vancouver... ou ailleurs !

Je rejoins tout à fait l'avis sur l'arrêt à Clearwater. Il n'y a pas besoin de rester là aussi longtemps.A Victoria ne manquez pas le Musée d'ethnographie qui est passionnant.
On t'a fait de belles suggestions. En tout cas, bienvenue dans l'Ouest canadien ? c'est un premier voyage dans l'Ouest du Canada ?
Pas le goût de passer une semaine dans l'Ouest ? Juste l'île de Vancouver, vous pouvez y passer toute une semaine tellement c'est beau et agréable de s'y balader.

Bon, vous me faites travailler les filles, maintenant je vous soumet le nouveau planning. Nous arriverons plutôt le mercredi 15 juin à Calgary.
Mais la question qui me travaille le plus est Faut-il que je réserve TOUS les hôtels???? On aime bien notre liberté et s'il pleut ou si on veut rester un jour ailleurs, sans réservation partout, c'est plus souple. Mais s'il faut réserver par précaution, alors je vais le faire!

Pour vous donner une idée, quand on dort dans les montagnes le week-end on réserve durant la semaine, deux à trois jours à l'avance.
La dernière fois, c'était en début de décembre, et j'avais remarqué qu'il n'y avait plus de place à notre hôtel, j'étais contente d'avoir réservé. Mais il y avait de la place à l'hôtel voisin qui me semblait nettement moins bien.
Ça m'est arrivé une fois d'avoir eu des problèmes à trouver de la place à Jasper, je me suis rabattue sur un autre hôtel, mais c'était un week-end férié.
Faites attention pour le week-end du 1er juillet, surtout si vous êtes à Tofino à ce moment, car c'est un week-end férié et le début des vacances pour beaucoup de gens.
L'été on dort rarement en hôtel, et en mai, juin ce n'est pas si simple de se trouver de la place sur un terrain de camping. Voilà deux ans, je n'avais pas réussi à trouver de la place à Kootenay Park en camping, et je me suis rabattue sur un hotel à Invermere et là j'avais un bon choix.

Je ne découvre que maintenant votre message et je viens de lire les réponses.
Nous sommes voisines de région, nous sommes lorrains et comme vous "sommes
tombés en amour " pour le Québec !!!! Nous sommes également allés dans l'Ouest
Canadien et mi-juin me semble une bonne période, nous y étions début juin et certaines routes étaient encore impraticables et nous avons eu de la neige au Lac Peyto...
Pour les hôtels, il est préférable de retenir, surtout à Jasper à cause du train
" le Canadien" qui y déverse son flot de touristes. si cela vous intéresse, je peux vous indiquer les hôtels !!!
Nous avons eu un coup de coeur pour le Park de Wells Gray, pas très touristique et
cependant très agréable, nous y avons vu beaucoup d'ours bruns et avons logé dans
un ranch www.wellsgrayranch.com, génial, nous avons envie d'y retourner !!!
Indépendamment de Victoria, Vancouver mérite au moins 3 jours !

Je suis du même avis. Nous avons fait le même voyage l'été dernier et Vancouver est une ville magnifique. Nous sommes restés 4 jours sur l'île de Vancouver et 3 jours à Vancouver, et celà nous a semblé trop court.

Merci Willemspie, c'est une excellente idée, et j'ai trouvé sur ce site quelque chose qui va nous convenir. J'avoue qu'au bout de quelques jours j'en ai marre des restos et donc pouvoir cuisiner devient un luxe appréciable!
C’est une bonne idée, je n’ai pas eu d’autre choix que chez l’habitant lors de ma dernière visite à Jasper mais c’est très bien. Oui tant que possible réservé les motels hôtels à l’avance
Merci à tous pour vos conseils. Grâce à vos impressions et suggestions, nous avons rallongés notre voyage et resterons donc un peu plus longtemps à Vancouver. Cela fera un voyage de 21 jours au Canada. Je ne réserverais que les étapes importantes et à Jasper, on restera les 3 nuits dans un appartement B&B.

Après un court séjour de 12 jours au Maroc, je reprends les préparatifs et réservations pour ce voyage au Canada. Les vols et voitures sont réservés, quelques hôtels aussi, mais je ne sais plus où j'avais trouvé le lien vers le site du traversier entre Victoria et Vancouver. Dommage, car c'une très belle région de France et qui mérite le détour. Il peut faire chaud ici en Alsace pendant quelques semaines mais c'est tellement variable. Peut-être que tu pourras découvrir l'Alsace une autre fois.

CALGARY:Best Western Port O'call hotel
Nous avions choisis cet hôtel car on arrivait tard à l'aéroport, réceptionnait un 4X4 (SUV chez ALAMO) et nous ne voulions pas encore faire des km le même soir.
Le lendemain on rentrait dans le PARC NATIONAL (prix 98€)
BANFF: BOW VIEW LODGE bien situé, mais sans plus.La photo est un peu trompeuse sur le site, c'est moins joli.
JASPER: JASPER HOUSE BUNGALOWS très bien, on a adoré l'emplacement, et le petit bungalow. J'ai pu y faire du linge, le secher et le repasser. On a vu pleins d'animaux au bord de la rivière. On y retournera.
KELOWNA: HOTEL ROYAL ANNE bien, hôtel un peu vieillot mais rien à critiquer.
NANAIMO: Hotel Travel lodge parfait pour nous, bien situé et pour 1 nuit avant d'aller à
CAMPBELL RIVER: super!!!!!! on y est resté dans un B&B que je vous conseille. La chambre est grande avec une cuisine intégrée, donc on peut se préparer un repas et le petit dej est servie dehors devant la chambre.AMAZING VIEW B&B
Nous y sommes restés 2 nuits, mais on aurait préféré y rester 3 nuits et ne pas perdre notre temps à aller à TOFINO.

Nous sommes restés 3 semaines au Canada, comme chaque année et j'en ai vite marre de manger au restaurant. Il faut aussi pouvoir laver le linge, alors chaque fois qu'on y va, que ce soit en B.C. ou Quebec, je cherche à louer des bungalows ou studio ou chambre avec kitchenette.
Cette année, nous partons en octobre et atterissons d'abord à Montréal, pour tout de suite récupérer le décalage horaire à Saint Sauveur, pas loin de Mont Tremblant. Ensuite on pars vers Quebec, et Halifax, Winnipeg et finalement Churchill pour voir les ours blancs.

Je vois que tu apprécies le Canada, cette année c'est le grand nord. Nous sommes allés 2 fois au Québec (les villes, Mauricie, Saguenay et Charlevoix en 2008 et l'année dernière la Gaspésie et l'Estrie). J'ai beaucoup aimé les parcs de Gaspésie.
Les prix des chambres me semblent bien plus élevées dans l'Ouest. Est-ce pareil pour les restos et la nourriture ?

Bonjour, nous ne sommes pas allés à Ucluelet. Pour Tofino, nous avions le gîte près de la plage, mais franchement, il a plu tout le temps qu'on était là et le propriétaire a rigolé et dit que c'était un temps normal à Tofino. D'ailleurs la rain forest est tout près. Les plages sont immenses mais bon, on a pareil chez nous en France. Le site de tourisme de Tofino montre un lieu magnifique et donne envie d'y aller....On regrette d'y avoir perdu notre temps!
Le prix des chambres est bien plus élevées dans l'Ouest, mais les restos et la nourriture restent pareil.Comme nous avons souvent mangés dans nos bungalows ou chambres équipées, nous avons dépensés pour 23 jours en nourriture, bouteille de vin tous les soirs compris, 640$CAD
Nous avons fait 3500Km et dépensés 360$CAD en essence.

Je te remercie pour ces précisions. C'est vrai Tofino est cité dans les guides, mais d'après les récitsn beaucoup ont fait les visites sous la pluie. Est-ce que la région de Campbell River est moins humide ? Qu'y a-t-il à faire dans cette partie de l'ile ?
Nous ne sommes pas allés en Nouvelle Ecosse, mais en Gaspésie quinze jours entre le 4 et 20 septembre environ. A notre départ, les arbres étaient à peine en couleur.
Quand y serez-vous ? Si c'est début octobre, beaucoup de choses doivent être fermées.
Nous avons fait de tour à partir du nord, St Anne des Monts et le parc de la Gaspésie, où nous avons vu des élans (bon resto sur les quais). Ensuite succession de petits villages au bord de l'eau. La route suit le St Laurent, de l'autre coté c'est la montagne. Les haltes routières à l'entrée ou à la sortie des villages permettent de faire un arrêt et de contempler le paysage.
Gaspe et le parc du Forillon. Beaucoup de sentiers pour s'élever le long de la montagne et belle vue sur la mer. Nous avons vu un lynx en bord de route (c'est parait-il assez rare d'en voir). Sortie commentée sur l'habitat des castors.
Ensuite Percé, bien connue pour le rocher. La colonie de Fous de Bassans sur l'ile est spectaculaire. Mais en octobre, il ne doit plus en rester beaucoup. Ils partent à ce moment là.
J'ai moins aimé la baie des chaleurs, le paysage est plus plat.
Vente de poisson fumé, crevettes ... dans des petites pecheries
Et pour terminer , Rimouski, Ste Luce et le parc du Bic. Ballade entre l'eau, les rochers, spectacle des phoques couchés sur les rochers à marée basse et qui y restent jusqu'à la marée haute.
A vérifier sur les sites des parcs, leur ouverture en octobre.
Je peux vous communiquer des gites sympas où nous sommes allés.
Nous avions eu un temps très agréable et très peu de pluie.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
